pleasanton was born on july 7, 1824. his father, stephen pleasanton, was rather famous and helped save archive documents. this was when the british burned washington, d.c. during the war of his dad also served as the 1812. fifth auditor of the u.s. treasury and as superintendent of lighthouses from 1820 until 1852. historic lighthouses pre-civil more is kind of a hobby of mine so i had to throw that in there. back to alfred pleasanton who graduated from west point in 1844, commissioned into the first u.s. dragoons and served in the territories of during the mexican-american war, he promoted to first lieutenant for gallantry at the battle of palo alto. in the mid-1850's, he served as adjutant to his regiment and also promoted to captain. pleasanton was in utah territory when war began in 1861 and he traveled back with the second dragoons. while he got back to washington, d.c., he tried to politick his way into a higher army rank using his dad's old political connections. it did not work out very well for him. on august 3,

let's take it over to pleasanton. you can see the pleasanton ridge right here. we did get some positive news from firefighters saying they are starting to slow the forward progress. the wind out of the west. gusts up to 20 miles-per-hour. evacuations are still in effect from around foothill road down to castlewood country club. that's because the way the wind is blowing. we could see embers moving downhill and they want to be extra cautious. i don't see anyone stronger than 20 miles-per-hour as we had through the next 24 hours. let's take it over to the port costa fire. the weather helping firefighters. you can see out the close the fire was to port costa. it was pushing the flames and embers out towards the open water. evacuations have been lifted. your asked to stay on alert. we'll see warm temperatures the next couple of hours in the upper '80s to about 90 degrees. we are tracking a lot on the map. firefighters will have to watch those hotspots on each and every fire. everybody near those, if you get the all clear, watch those alerts. >> that comes off a fire
