host: this is paul in delaware. democrat. good morning. caller: my question is i was wondering why there was such a reluctance to make the social security payroll tax more equitable. somebody making 150 thousand dollars pays 6% of their income. if you are making 300,000, you are effectively paying 3% of your income and the percentage decreases the more you make. why not just lifted that cap so that everyone pays 6% of their income, which would help on the funding end? guest: this reluctance to do everything with everything with the specter social security solvency, and i would say the level of reluctant to that mechanism is less. it tends to serve us better than most options. my guess, as mentioned, any bipartisan solution will probably have an increase in that cap. but we have to be careful. it doesn't sound that much of the problem. as an analyst who track these conversations online, it is striking how people have a very exaggerated sense o it is an honor to be here with president biden. he began his public service career on the delaware
