san francisco won't become the venice of the west. silicon valley won't become the loss city of atlantis, and salt water won't come out the taps in southern california. why? because however much it costs we can't afford to let this happen. so we will build levies around the airports, we will build a seawall around the san francisco waterfront. flood control is already being incorporated into the planning for the salt pond to wetland conversion project in the south bay and we'll change the way we store and move fresh water around california. economically, we don't have any other choice. but the cost will be enormous. and where we'll get the money and what other important investments and expenditures we'll have to forego to afford this are the bigger questions. but we do have other choices. there may be some areas along the bay shore line where it's more cost effective to remove existing development and replace it with flood-absorbing wet lands than it is to protect the low value structures. there may be areas, particularly in the delta

we are active in san francisco. we as a company can be told what is the priority of the policy folks here the decision makers of where do we turn the power on first? where do we put the gas lines back in place. we are trying work together as a time. prior to here i worked with the california highway patrol i had opportunities to be in many emergencies one that stuck with me i was brought over to a structure during the parade earthquake. i was the sdmacommander for a 1w shichlt i'm trying to go through the cries and fear and concern, one of the things that stood out was what i saw were people from the community from west oakland wanting to help the foeblgs stuck on the structure andment to help their neighborhood. there were rat in a maze. they didn't know what to do but want to engage. the involvement in the community and training is critical for everyone to get back on track and recover from a disaster. stay with it it can be frustrating to energize people to say it's coming when it hasn't been here for awhile. >>

i am born and raised in san francisco. i attended school at st. michael's high school, a sacred heart high school, sacramento city college. i graduated from golden gate university with a master's in business. my first job was as a bike messenger at age 16. i love my job and i learned every street and alley way in this great city. i have been in the wine and spirits industry 38 years. i was working with small businesses such as grocery stores and restaurants and hotels. over the years, i worked up the ladder, and started my career in south san francisco in 1968. in 1962, -- 1972, the mckessen company bought the boreaux company and the was the general manager in reno, nevada. in 1995 i was speaking manager of the company in brisbane. i became the coo of the stars group in san francisco. i worked under jeremiah tower. in 1996-1999, i was the sales manager for skyy vodka. i had the chance to gravel the u. -- travel the u.s., puerto rico, and the virgin islands. i was the director of public relations at young's market company, where i retired last year
