this is the proposed building going up at no. 1. what we see is that in the past the buildings have been coming progressively down. all of a sudden, this shoots up. if that happened here, let us look at the scale of what happened here to our home. and what is happening here, with no. 3 and the building next to it. it is substantially, substantially out of scale to that building. this is our alley. talking about the alley, this was taken about 4:00, between 4:00 and 4:30, last week, the first week of october. i was reading the planning department pamphlet about alley standards. alleys create a human-scale space, allowing penetration of sunlight, sky, and greenery in to the centers of blocks. whether an alley become successful is determined by a handful of factors -- scale, sun and sky availability, and greenery. this is the afternoon at 4:30, a shadow cast by the tall to story on the other side of number three. as a currency at 4:00 in the afternoon, the shuttle from number 7-9 is fully here on our neighbors, another two-story house.

i have sat in these at different times of the year and watched this light show start at sunrise where lights start appearing on the walls all around me and you realize this is how you tell time out in this landscape. this is the way they did calendars. this is the way they understood the larger sphere, the moving of the heavens, was by setting up structures that could receive the light in certain ways. i mean, it's happening everywhere. i was just in salt lake city and i took a walk downtown and i saw a pillar that had been built in the last 4 years that a big block of sandstone that i recognized. it was probably wingate sandstone that had been hauled up there from about 200, 250 miles away, but i noticed in the pillar that was a gap at the bottom and i walked up and looked through the gap and i saw there were some posts in the distance and i looked around and there was a circle around the gap and there were signs around it and then each post a prism in it so that light going through the crack would hit the prism and that light would go to another prism and you would be able to tell t

it is still at the beginning. but when we were all out there, we were thinking, we should be doing this for earthquakes, using the same kind of model and the same operation. because that is as likely to happen as the other incident. the other thing i was going to say is that, particularly on the east bay, we have been practicing backing each other on wildfires, because we have a comment backbone of regional parks and fires. and the very sad case, our police chief will tell you that when we had the murder of the four police officers, we had officers from all over the bay area, in -- come in well most of the officers were allowed to go to the funeral operations. it was interesting, in a very sad way, to practice. but we have tried to be very conscious too well with cher and our wildfire capabilities and send our teams out throughout the state whenever there's a wildfire, and other cities have done the same thing. i think we can do more of that backing up each other in incidence so we're more familiar with our region
