when we moved to savannah in 1954, that was. . i went to florence street school and i had no presence there. but was not like penpoint. that was a far different light. my own memories of living over there on the west side was horrible. and quite lonely. here it was set so different. adults were hard-working people, good people and always come back to that word good people. they've made do with what they have very rarely heard anybody complain. in the evenings, there were missing nets or working in may garden are working on an old house or a motor that was not running right and repairing something. they lived off the water and off the land. what we saw here in this world was self-sufficiency and decency and goodness and kindness. the only glimpsed i saw and a member of the outside world or the blimps' going over. or the old planes that it went to hunter air force base. we were in their lending patterns area. for us as children and we probably remember this, kevin was hearing that pot, pots, pot of the ice-cream man. coming down pen
