7:02 am
nothing. >> okay after you pay it forward and do nothing, that is perfect. okay. new lets see if we are perfect in our weather by the numbers, it is less than perfect. we have sunny skies coming up but also gusty wind that will be up to 30 miles an hour at times. so yeah, wind is back and buddy is ready for it all bundled up but excited about the who will take weekend. we have three days off. temps in the 20's and 30's. no clouds to speak of just yet so plenty of sunshine to start today. it is nice we have stubborn clouds around yesterday for a while but 29 degrees, which is our favorite number, feels like 19. not our favorite wind chill for sure, sunrise is official at 7:20 but as you can see the unis is out already. rest of the morning drive we have upper 20's and wind chills in the teens. forty is our high. we will teach that early before this cold front comes through. gifts us a blustery day. we're in the mid 30's by this
7:03 am
afternoon. getting where you wanting to this morning could abe major challenge. wait until you hear everything bob kelly has to tell us this morning. >> it has been crazy. 7:03. good morning everybody. we are looking live. walt whitman bridge heading in to new jersey. multi vehicle accident there mid span. it looks like we have that far right-hand lane. this will impact everyone leaving philadelphia right now trying to head into new jersey, jab, on the eastbound side of the bridge. i'm in the sure if chopper can hear us but if they pan back we are stacked and packed from south philadelphia, leaving philadelphia, heading up and over the span there it looks like they have one car up on the flatbed, go ahead, roll back. that is the card king and arlington depot where they unload those cars off the big freighters look at those headlights rolling all the way back past the stadium area, and it the is impacting not only the schuylkill but also you can see there i-95, the
7:04 am
ramps to the walt whitman bridge are backup as well. so head for the benny, if you are heading into new jersey. the lets role video from sky fox when they were over this tractor trailer, that whether what i'm understanding whacked in the overpass and then split in half. this is on the new jersey turnpike right here near exit number three, which is the black horse pike and then gets split in half spilling edds load all over the roadway there, there is far right shoulder getting through. lets come back to the maps man. your best bet this morning instead of the turnpike right here in bellmawr is use i295. then north on route 55, coming up from vineland and accident as you approach that route 42 freeway, almost back to normal downtown philadelphia, we have had that earlier crash on the schuylkill just a minor delay for folks exiting trying to get to the ramps there for 30th street station. another water main break this time in will its town at king
7:05 am
and arlington. man mass transit looking good this morning. mike and alex, back over to you. imagine 6:30 last night walking on 16th between sansom and chestnut, right. a young woman 18 years old falls from the eight story window and lands on a middle-aged, well, a woman in her 40's. london her by the h and m store. can you imagine. >> unbelievable thing. now police are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong, jenny joyce? >> reporter: mike and alex, i cannot imagine such a horrifying tragic incident. whereas mentioned it was 6:00 o'clock rush hour. lots of people were outside on the street at this time. police are not identifying this temple university student but we do know that the 18 year-old was visiting friend at the the art institute of philadelphia police say when she fell out of the eight story window. the it happened just after 6:00 o'clock last night. police say the student was either leaning out of or sitting on the ledge of the window in the eighth store i dorm room taking pictures when she fell to her death.
7:06 am
the student felon top of the 44 year-old woman who happened to be walking by at the time. this is in the area of 16th and chestnut street. the would the man was transported to hahnemann hospital with serious injuries. the she's listed in stable condition. temple university faculty, staff and students learned of this tragedy last night and the school released a statement saying it is deeply saddened to learn of one of our students in center city philadelphia our thoughts and prayers where her, family and friend. counseling for students is available at the the counseling services building. police say the the fall a appears to be an accident but they are still trying to learn more about the moments leading up to her death. they are interviewing two male students and feast mail -- female at the time of the accident. mike and alex. another unusual accident in north philadelphia, overnight an suv, is actually, it is called a nitro. is it a dodge? yes, dodge nitro.
7:07 am
the it looked like it blew up when it hit the the front of the house. suv smashed right in the front of somebody's home in the middle have the night. >> steve keeley has been live there all morning. they have pulled the suv from the house and it is okay. the it is still standing. >> reporter: dodge should use this crash as a commercial because it shows how safe that vehicle is because this guy hit this house, a brick house, probably 60, 70 miles an hour and ran away without a limp. that shows how safe that suv is when it hits a house head on. the house was the big injury here. you can see porch roofies off. that fell. the porch gate is now blocking anybody from going in there and lights are on in the basement of the beasley home. they are looking at the damage. licenses and inspection department has an inspector here. he slapped that warning sticker on the door with the family, it is a allowed this to get what they need because they have to move out for weeks and or months. it will take the insurance company weeks just to give them the money they deserve
7:08 am
for this. let's show you video for you people just waking up and tuning into our show at 7:00 o'clock. five hours ago, 2:00 in the morning beasley family, mom dad and three kid, all asleep, when this suv plows into their house at the end of bl a vis street where it meets 18th street in the logan section of north philadelphia. the daddies the only one who hears a noise but not enough to get him out of bed. he rolls over and then goes back to sleep. he hears a louder noise and that louder noise, believe it or not, was the neighbors knocking real hard on the front door. they don't hear a dodge nitro plowing through the front of their house but they hear a loud knock of neighbors warning them to get up and out of the house. not only did they want to see the damage but there was a gas line ruptured and waterline ruptured shooting in the air. now lets show you the the scene for people watching us live at 6:30 when we showed you they finally put up it and pulled the thing out of the house and it was a slow deal.
7:09 am
they didn't want it to collapse, just parts of it would was holding up. that was the front porch where the family spent a lot of time. teresa beasley, the mom here, grew up in this house and had her own family in this house. she has been here 40 plus year. she wants to get back in the house. we talk to the family. they were in the greatest mood possible , believe it or not. >> my mom came in the room, freaking out. i thought we were late for school, the way she came n i started smelling gas. i came out and the car, it was a big car, popping on the side of the house. it was really devastating for us. it was like a nightmare for a second. but in reality we're happen that i we are safe, and that we didn't get hurt. >> we're moving back into our homes. we have our lives. we are very happy with that, steve. anything else is replaceable, lives are not. >> reporter: you're looking at that is what going through your mind of them shutting off the the water and the gas.
7:10 am
>> all of the cost and damage. i'm hoping nobody breaks in my house while i'm gone. >> reporter: reality is sinking in. >> reporter: sad statement that he has to now war that i somebody will break into his home because it is so easy to get in through this big hole in the front of the house. how sad is that? hopefully, the neighbors will keep a good watch of his house, because you would hate to see this family lose any more than they already have. as far as this driver goes, the police figured this thing was stolen. they were investigating where and when. no idea. nobody has went to the hospital today. so, we can look at this, in a fun way because the family, our viewers are good day and they were in the greatest mood when i met them at 3:00 this morning. since this is a corner of b l.a.vis and this driver was a butt head let's call this a new intersection of blavis and butt head. >> i like it. a man is in extremely critical condition have he was shot several times in west
7:11 am
philadelphia police say he was shot by another man, who was inside of a car. they were both inside of the car. woman who was also inside that car, told police that the driver was shot in the back of the head, and then arm. now the driver actually got out of the car and tried to run, while the other man, just kept on shooting. he eventually collapsed and was found by police before being taken to a local hospital. the woman is being interviewed and authorities are reviewing nearby surveillance cameras to learn more about what happened. and police are also trying to learn more this morning about an officer involved shooting in wilmington, delaware. it happened around 5:30 yesterday afternoon, just blocks away from the pro police rally with that i was being held, right in rodney square. the authorities have not said why the the victim was shot by officers on the avenue. we do know that person was flown to the local hospital. family and friend of the missing bucks county teacher has raised more than $10,000 now you to find him and bring
7:12 am
him home. in fact, it may be a above ten grand now. >> they have set up a go fun me account on, which as of last night exceeded its goal. teacher christopher tully was last seen january 6th when he jumped out of his parent's car near i-76 and city line avenue. just yesterday a helicopter was searching over the the schuykill river looking for any sign of tully. he is a middle schoolteacher at the middle bucks institute of technology and was just named teacher of the year last year. >> parents said he was suffering from depression and they were taking him to a therapy obsession he hopped out on the way there he has the not been seen ever since. just about a half an hour ago the chief of euro pole, for the entire region of europe, says that the threats in europe are so significant, it is extremely difficult to foil all of these terror attacks attempt. this is asbell gum authorities are on high alert right now after they stopped what would have been a major terror attack. police arrested 13 people,

7:17 am
wind gusts right now 23 miles an hour in the city. 36 miles an hour gusts in mount pocono. ultimate doppler showing no precipitation. we will have a dry cold front sweeping through early afternoon today, and that will give us those really cold temperatures tonight, down in the teens, even in the city, and then tomorrow it will feel a lot colder. future cast, jumps ahead to sunday after a sunny day on saturday, and then here comes that rain from that southern storm. it spreads through about 8:00 o'clock in southern delaware and at the the jersey shore, by noon time we're getting the heavier rain closer to the coast, and then some lighter rain around philadelphia, so, but by about 7:00 o'clock it should be out of here. that will give us a a dry day on monday. so having gone through the entire holiday weekend, we will start with next week and it looks like seasonal temperatures will be here, as well, as a few chances of flurries here and there as well. the most noteably, on wednesday morning. so pretty changeable for the

7:24 am
put down the dark roast you've been putting up with and reach for the one you deserve. you know, i watch tv. you know, i have no idea who these people are. >> remember that phone call, that i got the in the news room. it was from tell me if you necessity where this place is, ten sleep, wyoming. i don't know anyone in wyoming. >> ten sweep wyoming, probably a little town. we thought it was a robo call. but fcc says it is talking about making robo calls to our cell phones legal. >> lauren, i don't like this at all. >> me neither. especially for banking purposes. basically for the past 25 years someone cannot call you, robo call with that automatic
7:25 am
robotic message without getting your permission if they are calling for your cell phone. banks are saying, some banks are saying, we don't like this. we need to robo call our customers because we need to tell them that is there a problem with their account, suspect fraud or identity theft or et cetera. we need to get to them right away. let us send this robo call. this is me speaking and some opponent groups. if it is so urgent why not put a real live worker on the phone so i believe you when you are calling me. whenever i get a call i hang up right away. >> me too. >> i don't listen to it. >> new fcc has to weigh all of these letters, proposals and decide what they will do, if it will be legal for to you get contacted by a bank's automated message. >> you know -- >> it could be as early as i think next week. >> yes. >> it could happen. >> really soon. >> maybe it will give thaws list. do you remember your house phone you could sign up and
7:26 am
say i don't want to be part of this don't call me. >> opt out. >> yes. >> when a real live person calls me from whenever, any agency, i grill them on the phone to make sure they are who they say are. you never want to get me on the phone. >> why have you in the been taking my calls. >> you know what, that was so good, mike, i have no response. >> i have another question then, it is friday night, and i just got paid. do you have your hair done there on that right side, where are you going tonight. >> you know what, it is called that magic wand curling iron that decided to make me look like a 1980's rock star. >> it looks good. >> it works. >> you like it, i don't know. i feel like i'm a member of the jackson five. >> i like it. >> you look great. beautiful. >> thank you. >> i will tell you this ladies

7:31 am
we will have the holiday weekend forecast for you, next time, right now, and now we have to add sun glare to our issues this morning. boy have we had issues, bob kelly. >> we have issues, 7:31. sky fox rolled video on this one, two cars blocking two left lanes only one lane opened right now on the walt whitman bridge heading into new jersey. we are bumper to bumper to bumper, head to the ben franklin bridge from philadelphia, heading into new jersey. there is a shot from sky fox, in the looking good, lets get to the maps, southbound i-95 delays at girard. schuylkill backup, at the walt whitman and update on the new jersey turnpike in mess a tractor trailer smack in the overpass and then split in half with debris all over the roadway. only one lane is opened on the new jersey turnpike in the area of exit number three, your best bet, 295 for rest of the morning rush hour. mike and alex, back over to
7:32 am
you. trial of the former philadelphia sport caster don tollefson after an unexpect halt in proceedings yesterday. >> jurors, they were sent home yesterday while tollefson was sent to the hospital. tollefson is defending himself begins theft charges. he is accused of swindling $300,000 of sports charity scenes. he has type two diabetes and his levels were off. part of the problem may be just stress, but he was in the hospital yesterday. >> i guess got out of the hospital, and he looks wiped out a lot of lawyers are stressed out when they go into court, nervous, stressed out and they have problems in court. he is representing himself. >> so it looks like they will go back into court today. he seems to be fine now. fred tecce, is here, good morning. bring everybody up to date. is what the case about. >> the case is about the the fact that done ton tollefson promised a bunch of people tickets to travel event, world
7:33 am
cup soccer and didn't deliver and took $341,000. but the testimony has been overwhelming against the guy. he used charitable money to have dog walking, liquor store, to buy stuff at cvs. the guy's testimony is pretty bad. i know bob goldman. we were prosecutors together. he could be one of the best trial lawyers on the planet. he is spectacular. he is stan by counsel. the the reason is, i guarantee you those lawyers told him he will get convicted in a huge way. >> what do your real attorneys think of people that do this, defend yourself. >> do you remember mob lawyer who got indicted and he was his own lawyer. they went and said bob, everybody says, anyone who is his own loyal has a fool for a client. would i rather have a i fool for a client then a fool for a lawyer n that instance it was a great situation but often times you don't want to do it, when you are in the train.
7:34 am
don tollefson is not a lawyer. >> he is a good talker. >> great talker. the despite being a good talker does not make you a good lawyer. there is a lot going on. there is a lot of subtlety and things people are not recognizing. he is going down like a sack of sledgehammers. he put on witnesses to help him from the eagles and every single one of them gutted his case. he went to the hospital because testimony for him was so bad, he knows it is coming. he hears the gates of prison slamming shut. >> it has been dramatic on the stand. >> some people say it is dramatic. i think it was goofy. >> i have a question if you have put yourself on the stand does he ask him self questions. >> you can do it in one of two ways. i have had cases against defendants as a prosecutor who were their own lawyers. you can do one of two things. they can have a lawyer ask them questions or they will wave this rule that says you cannot testify by a narrative. you are supposed to have question by question. but on the stand you cannot ask yourself questions. they will wave that rule.
7:35 am
they will back off and let him get in toe a narrative. on cross-examination when the prosecutor was going after him tollefson would start these long drawn out stories and go off in 17 different directions. >> does that make the judge angry. >> it makes the jury angry. the judge got, the judge got mad at him, cleared jury twice and told him you need to stop that. the prosecutor was doing something i wouldn't have done. tollefson would go off on these things and prosecutor would start rolling his eyes and start talking to one of the investigators. that shows disrespect. when you are in the courtroom, as a prosecutor and lawyer, you should know, he certainly should know, you don't do that kind of stuff. tollefson is hanging himself. jurors see right through this guy. >> i give you $2,000 to a charity event and i never get ticket to the super bowl or air plane tickets. >> 341 you this dollars is not the a small amount of money
7:36 am
jurors seeing right through him. they have their notebooks closed. >> they are done. >> the judge asked jurors if they wanted to come back, he said no, we will go home for the day. we have had enough of this guy. in a charity, for a slain police officer. the the facts against the guy are overwhelming. i don't see the guy getting off. >> have a great weekend. >> a woman just 26, so sad, gets the flu on monday, dies by the end of the week newly married. was there anyway to prevent this. doctor mike will explain to us about this horrible flu season. quincy is paying it forward. >> you are at mrs. k's diner. >> yes, third annual pay it forward weekend. sir, is what your name. >> bill wagner. >> what are you getting to eat. >> made to order omelette, cheese ham, spinach and provolone. >> listen, he thinks it is something about food, he

wintry mountains, it is a big ski weekend for a lot of families martin luther king weekend and it looks like it will be a appropriately cold tomorrow for snow making. here's what will happen on sunday. at least this is another earlyish call. it is change since yesterday since this coastal storm moving on in and about 2:00 in the afternoon rain starts. and now it looks like it will be a rain event that lasts through the early hours of monday but it should be gone formatter inn luther king day itself. so any rain we will get should only be rain and it should only now be on sunday and maybe not last into monday morning. in the meantime no precipitation here, none
7:47 am
expected, for the rest of the day but it is a cold one even with the sunshine temperatures, only 29 degrees in philadelphia, and wilmington. thirty-four in wildwood. factor in the wind speeds, the wind gusts and it feels colder then. that temperatures, dress for temperatures in the 20's this morning. and even though we do reach 40 degrees today. the the wind makes it feel like freezing, even colder tomorrow, another arctic day on saturday but then 45 on sunday and then, getting chilly again for the holiday itself on monday. that takes us through the week inn and track has been a problem, had is that under stating it it is a mess. big problem for folks on the new jersey turnpike. earlier this morning a tractor trailer smack in the overpass and then the contents spilled all over the roadway. the tractor trailer basically split in half. sky fox is over the scene of the new jersey turnpike right
7:48 am
here near exit number three. you can see only the far right lane or shoulder on either side squeezing on through. so as we go to the map, the mess will continue to clean up. instead of the new jersey turnpike i would use i use the five, a crash in chester county, downingtown on route 30 eastbound right here near reeseville road. otherwise delays south on 95 into girard. schuylkill running snow leaving town heading out toward belmont. we have sun glare around conshohocken curve as well. the delays on 476, north bound, from macdade up through route one. alex, back over to you. i know a lot of times we used to think about the ice we are seeing on the roadways, how cold it is, it is hard to think spring is coming, pretty soon i guess. but when it comes to gardening there are things you need to be doing now. the lets get to jen at east oak lane this morning telling us how we can get these seeds kind of growing. >> alex, i expect you to be doing all of. that the first of all say
7:49 am
hello to sally. good morning. >> good morning. >> before we get to the tips we have a cool workshop. that is why i called you and harassed you to be on tv. >> we have a workshop tomorrow morning, saturday at horticultural society 20th and arch getting ready for spring and knowing how to start your season. >> you say we should be looking at when we will plant outside, maybe mothers day iron and working well, frost coming around mothers day. count that six weeks to start your warm season. there is a lot of cool season stuff that is going on in april. so counting back six weeks from april. >> it is right around right now. >> it is a little bit early right now. >> number one thing you say when it comes to tomatoes in particular it is cool to start inside because is there so many varieties. >> is there so many more varieties, of seeds available then there are plants when you walk in the story confess to you i get mize stuff ready and, i try to put it near my
7:50 am
gliding glass door with the light and that is just not enough. >> you need like 12, 14 hours of light on your seeds, and, and what will happen here. can i use this regular light here. >> a regular light incandescent bulbs, regular light bulbs don't work. the twisted light bulbs, jury is out but they are better. the very best are the fluorescent lights. >> okay. >> you can get plant lights, that are very expensive or regular high daylight. >> where do i get them. >> a at any box story will need a bag to put in my seedlings. >> yes. >> yes. >> what kind of like do i need seed starting mix. >> yes, this is seed starting mix. the reason, hold it up, all right. seed starting mix has no fertilizer in it. you don't want any fertilizer. you don't want regular potting soil. because it is the salt and it
7:51 am
sucks the water out of the seeds. >> so again if you have the stuff in the garage from last year don't use that. >> well, i mean regular stuff outside. >> regular stuff out the side. don't dig up soil out of your yard and try that because it had has a little bit of everything. >> you say, that is the last thing, you want to make sure containers are super clean before you start. >> yes. >> and what kind of containers you use is entirely up to you. the the pellets, little once, slow up, little brown that gets bad. >> and even containers you can use them as long as they are clean. >> workshops, mike jerrick, he will come. >> better. >> i did gardening for seven years of my life. >> i will see him. >> she said you have to be there to believe it. >> i would do it, give me time
7:52 am
and location. >> okay. >> yes. >> are you thinking about your calendar. >> yes oscar nominations were announced yesterday and a a lot of people feel like move writes snubbed. really good ones. >> what do you have there,. >> snubs, no diversity. controversy erupts as all 20 acting nominees are white. wait until we show you a graphic. >> first time it has happened since like the 1990's. >> yes. >> a young woman just married comes down with the flu, and then dies, only a few days later. >> yes. >> and, they are coming out saying this years vaccine is only 23 percent effective, so what can you do. we will bring in doctor mike.

eye young newlywed dies just days after getting the flu. >> well, she developed a complications, called sepsis,
7:56 am
and doctor mike, is in the studio to talk about this. >> okay. >> she basically didn't even have any underlying medical conditions either. >> no, and we forget, we talk about ebola, we think about all these other illnesses but the flu can be deadly. in this case, this young woman, no medical problems. >> did you see pictures of her? look at her. she just got married. she's young. >> one of the years i have learned of 21 years of being a a practicing physician is all bets are off. there is no guaranties about anything. you have this very wonderful healthy young with man who gets the flu. >> all these pictures are from her face book account. >> what happens sometimes is when you get the flu, you get what is called a bacterial super infection. when a bacteria comes in and can cause pneumonia. we think, based on what i have red, she developed a pneumonia and a pneumonia can lead to bacteria being in the black stream and that is sepsis. we have covered this. do you remember the writer from the inquirer, came to my
7:57 am
office, i drove him to the emergency room and he would have been gone in 15 or 20 minutes. the mortality of sepsis is about 30 percent. so, if you get really sick with the flu, you are in the getting better, coughing up blood, short of breath, you go to the er, i don't wait. >> is it anything to do with septic shock. >> septic shock is one of the symptoms n sepsis there is a release of inflammatory chemicals in the bod i that are trying to fight the infection. sometimes that overwhelms the body. that leads to organ failure. your blood pressure goes down. your heart ratings up. the gentlemen that i brought over and luckily is doing great, and, basically he collapsed when we brought him in the emergency room. >> my thing is she went in the hospital on monday and dead by friday. when we hear about the flu it makes me so nervous because at what point do you know that this is turning into something, when do i need to go, to the hospital. >> so let's cover that.
7:58 am
>> okay. >> first of all, you get the flu shot. even though it is no the that effective this year it can reduce symptoms of the flu when you get it. number two, if you do get the flu there are medications available n fact, yesterday i prescribed two. so i gave a wife tamiflu because she had the flu and husband started to get sick we gave him tamiflu. that is the second course of action. >> but if you can't breathe, go to the er. >> if you are diagnosis with the flu and you are not doing wet, you are getting more short of breath, you are feeling punky, you can't stand up, you feel light headed, you go to the emergency room to get iv fluids and proper care because the flu kills about 30,000 people a year. >> another thick that bothers me about this i know she was young but people say, it is really young that are a affect, it is dangerous for them. else the elderly. she was just in her 20's. >> yes, 26.
7:59 am
>> there is no way to define how terrible something like this is. it is like a try wall world. we're covered from reality, especially in america. we're so blessed. but disease in reality is out there you need to be aware. i always tell medical students at penn, the disease will grab you in the butt when you least expect it. you have to be prepared and ready to go. >> thank you for that. very good. important information. across the the street tonight at 7:30 i will be guest bartender at a bar and restaurant called for fathers. i want to invite you to that. >> welshing thank you. >> that is nice. >> i will there been. >> if you don't show up, have a great weekend. >> i'm glad you got an invite, because i didn't get one i'm going with hair o dog with you tonight. >> no, that is saturday good oh, geese. >> it is january 16th, 2015.
8:00 am
more tragedy in center city. a 18 year-old girl falls from her death to the eighth floor of the center city building. what he police believe she may have been doing right before she fell. sue? holiday weekend, it is almost here, and each day we will have different weather, we will break it down, coming up. lauren in. >> sue, oscar nominations under fire 20 contender for lead and supporting actress are all white for the first time in almost 20 years. now is there a a hash tag bit on twitter, mike. >> that will be an interesting discussion. it is a philly battle at the box office. this weekend. brad liz cooper, verse kevin h the art, who will win? who will make the most money at the box office. the the movie most people are likely to see, in my opinion, coming up. >> i think a lot of people will be going to the movies because it will be so cold this weekend. you just want to be inside. >> it is true, we have the
8:01 am
platter of weather, this weekend. >> i have seen the preview of both of those and i would love to see one theater to the next. >> well, they are opposite movies. one a hilarious comedy and the the other so heavy, american snipper. >> today do you nothing. then you go to the movies. >> exactly. >> we have a seven out of ten in weather by the numbers for this friday. plenty of sunshine but gusty winds. that is what will make it feel colder then it is, bus stop buddy wearing shade, hat, warm coat, gloves. he is excited. he has a three day weekend coming in with a cold front and that will make it are cold. keep that in minding out for friday night, maybe going to mike's event or where ever you are going. the bundle seven. 30 degrees right now. it feels like 21, and that weather by the numbers once again is a seven out of ten. we expect a high of 40 degrees today. we will talk about the rest of the weekend coming right up.
8:02 am
hey, bob kelly. >> we will get with the 40 with the help of the sun. we have sun glare coming around your conshohocken curve. live look at the schuylkill expressway, starting to see slow downs for gulph mills in toward the curve with the sun hitting you in the forehead. update ago this accident on the new jersey turnpike, only one lane opened, in both directions, in the area of exit number three. a tractor trailer earlier this morning whacked in the overpass and then broke apart spilling in the north and southbound lanes. if you use the turnpike through this stretch this morning your best bet toys use i295 instead. north on the freeway coming in toward philadelphia, a crash right here near route 544, for the gang on the philadelphia side, south on i-95, 13 miles an hour and we're jammed cottman into girard. schuylkill running slow, within the city limits and then we have that sun glare out near the curve. then later on tonight about 8:00 o'clock into 8:00 o'clock
8:03 am
tomorrow night, penndot will put in a new traffic pattern. and, one lane, northbound, girard to allegheny, from and center city, and even sixers fans on the way home will run into that jam later on tonight. mike and alex, back over to you. all right, thanks, bob. 8:03. police are searching for a person drove a suv right to the house in north philadelphia this morning. family members inside said they didn't even hear the crash and they only woke up when they heard, you nose, neighbors knocking on their door. no one was injured. and, right after the accident. the home was heavily damage. a young college student, and, falling from a eighth floor window on to another woman. the the accident happened in center city philadelphia a early yesterday evening. the 18 year-old temple student had been visiting friend at the art institute of philadelphia, a dorm room there, and right here near 15th and chestnut, and the

8:05 am
officials say a decline in the industry led to their decision to shut the facility down. >> 8:04. oscar nominations have been announced but it is who is left out that has everyone left talking this morning. there has been buzz about jennifer aniston for her role in cake but she was passed over. also pointing out angelina jolie was not nominated for her work in directing unbroken. neither was selma. we have her here in our studio. and chance of best picture also gone. >> one thing that stood out about this years oscar nominations was lack of diversity, at the cover story, of u.s.a. today. so, quite a few people responding, right after nominations were announced yesterday at 8:30 eastern time and twitter was very excited about this. >> let's bring in lauren johnson. is there a specific hash tag that people are using. >> absolutely al-zawahiri ex-and mike. many people on facebook, twitter highlighting lack of diversity seen in this years list of nominees.
8:06 am
it is first time in 17 years that the lead for supporting october or and actress were all white. look at this info graphic from children's book publisher lee and low book, it spells out at contacted my award, and, in individual terms. one picture sticks out of more than 6,000, 6 percent, are not white. that is just 360 members. and, this best actress winners only one, halle berry have been anything other than white. isn't she half white? there was talk about ana potential to be first african-american woman to receive a best director nomination for selma. she stopped by in december. she was noteably shut out. so was the star of the movie, david. so selma received just two nominations, one for best picture and best song. lack of diversity spark backlash with many using the the the hash tag oscars so white. one user wrote a apparently to the academy in 2015 only the
8:07 am
stories, some made up, of white people are relevant. they will have separate and equal drinking fountains set up at after parties. not only were there no african americans nominated there, were no women recognized in either directing or writing categories. i looked up more hash tag. oscars so white, they didn't see sell marks but their house keeper said it was really good. there is oscar so whiten 50 shade of gray could get nominated. oscars so white shows the disconnect between at contacted my and movie watching public. that is what actors are saying. denzel washington basically saying membership needs to be rethought because 90 percent are white, three-quarters are male, median age around 63. that is in the who the movie watching general public is. >> here's what surprises me, the contrast we are seeing from last year. the last year we saw three black acting nominees and 12 years a slave won best picture. here we go from now, and
8:08 am
everyone talking about ana and her directing with this selma and for sure it will happen, i think people are surprised. >> one female director won an oscar for directing. >> she was in the first african-american woman to be nominated for a best director. >> yeah. >> yes. y enjoy it. >> thinks an age old question, and hope that happens. that blue and white graphic you have there did you see the break down of the the academy members. the people that actually vote for the nominees, and eventually vote for the winner. is there only about 3,000 of them. it may be hard to see. do you see break down. >> it is tough to see. >> yes. >> one thing that stand out, is best actress winners 99 percent white. >> 94 percent are white.
8:09 am
the the people didn't vote. >> people are math at us for bringing up race. >> this is a conversation that is happening. >> it is all over the the country. >> we cannot ignore it. >> i just love this response. thinks a great way to respond a a lot of people are surprised by this not getting nominated for best nominated picture. >> a lego oscar. >> so cute. >> are you ready to rumble alex holley over the the box
8:10 am
office. >> lets get ready to rumble. >> it is a philly battle at the box office this weekend. we have bradley cooper, verse kevin hart two philadelphians, who will make the the most money. so which do you see a real heavy american snipper or wedding ringer, a comedy. that is a big difference there. >> what about this terry cruz is on good day this morning. he has a new show world's funniest fail premiere tonight on fox we will tell you you why won't want to miss this.

8:15 am
295 as the the alternate for morning rush hour. mike and alex, back to you. yesterday i showed you bradley cooper, a philly becomes office battle between bradley and kevin hart. he made front page. u.s.a. today, bradley. it is kevin's turn today. he is a main story in the philadelphia daily news. so let's get ready to rumble, starting tonight, bring this down. are you ready to rumble, philly? first, from jenkintown, pennsylvania, once called sexiest man alive, he got over hang over after crashing a few weddings, way too fast and he is here when it comes to the silver lining. it is bradley couper with american snipper in this corner. >> you have eyes on this, can

8:18 am
win the box office. they are saying it will make 50 million-dollar, on martin luther king junior weekend, this weekend, because of the holiday from friday to monday. i just think that it is just one of those films that is absolutely mind blowing. bradley cooper did a phenomenal job. he really is one of the best actors working to day and solidified that with this role and his work on brought way. people not familiar with this story. and, 160 confirmed kill. it is one of the most intense powerful movies i have seen in a long time. before it alyssa performance. clint east wood's best movie since mystic river. movie had no buzz with the academy award season. golden globes snubbed it and then yesterday the academy award gets bradley cooper best actor and best picture
8:19 am
nomination award. a lot of buzz with this movie. i seen it twice. when i saw it, i thought four and a half out of five. i sat down with my parents and brother watched it. i realized this movie was unbelievable. i gave it five out of five. one of the best movies i have seen in 2014. definitely see it. it will blow your mine. emotional and action standpoint as well. >> between the two for our contest purposes, you gave it a a five out of five stars. what did you give kevin's movie. >> i love kevin heart. i think, wedding ringer had funny moments. there are element to it that do work. my problem and i love a r comedy but when you go far over the top with your element then it comes to the point, here's what i think what happened was. i have an r rating. lets see how far we can push this. it got a little will too grotesque. i don't mind humor but didn't
8:20 am
fit the story in my opinion. i think movie had good decent laugh out loud moments. dougie seen is great. i gave it two and a half out of five. >> two and a half. >> what did you think. >> i like it. i have have seen it. i think you are right. i feel like there are some parts that were funny. i love the concept of it. it is interesting to see kevin hart get emotional too. a identify we have not seen yet. >> and kevin h artist great. the dog scene, why did we need that scene. what was that. >> okay. so, bradley wins the stars and you say bradley will win the box office. >> 100 percent no question about it. they will look over like a four day weekend for that, they are saying, mlk's birthday was yesterday, so they are saying it could be a four day weekend, they are
8:21 am
saying 50 million for four days for american snipper. >> i kill go kevin heart edges him out. >> in philadelphia a. >> yeah. >> mike, five bucks, we will bet five bucks on this. >> totally. >> big spender. >> you got it, kevin mccarthey. boys times are changing when it comes to maryland mom and dad are in trouble for letting kid walk alone from school. >> why it is being criticized this morning. >> free range parenting. >> but first sometimes stress of being in the wedding party is just too much, but listen who you can hire if your bride made are just slacking.
