missing air asia jet liner but nothing just yet. >> 162 people disappeared over the weekend. so doug what was found. it is in the afternoon over there in the search area. >> reporter: yeah, mike, it is important to remember we have learned that through malaysia air 370 incident that just because debris has been found doesn't mean anything a lieutenant of debris in the ocean. they have a relatively tight search area here. this is an area of radar coverage, they know where this aircraft disappeared they just don't have any direct sign of it at this point beyond just some debris. while search crews have spotted debris and fuel slicks in the waters around indonesia those could be false leads in the part of the world that has been through this before. stunned family members friends of the passengers wait for any kind of news. airline officials are bracing for the worst. >> until we fine the aircraft we know what went wrong, we will look into it abe see what we need to improve if we need

this was delivered to air asia back in 2008. so by aircraft standards it was not all that old. >> but the pilot again wants to go to 38,000 feet and denied because there was too much traffic in the area. >> reporter: that is what we're hearing. air traffic controllers had concern about traffic above the aircraft. everything said that it if the pilot thought he was entering something that was unsafe he could have decided on his own to change altitude. we don't know whether he did so. >> that is dangerous because you don't know where other planes are. 70:00 46789 united states is standing by to help with the search for the missing aircraft. >> gentlemen jenny joyce we had some ships in the area. >> reporter: that is right there have been five major passenger airline clashes, caused by weather in the last ten years. paris flight 204 crashed in august 2005 during landing, due to heavy rain and hail. so flight 1145, crashed in

december of 2005, curing landing due to wind sheer and reduced visibility from a thunderstorm. abc airlines light 53 crashed during take off, due to terrible weather causing wind sheer. trans asia airways atr-72 crashed relevant they are year during landing, trying to avoid a thunderstorm and the pul kovo flight 612 is most similar to this missing air asia flight. 612 crashed in eastern ukraine in august of 2006 killing all 170 people on board due to a thunderstorm. flight 612 was cruising at an all the tied of 32,000 feet. like the air asia flight pilots attempted to climb over a thunderstorm clouds avoiding weather but those thunderstorm clouds were unusual liz high. tu154 climbed fast entered an area of severe turbulence,

stalled and crash. air asia pilot was initially denied request to enter a higher altitude as we mentioned because another aircraft was in its path. a distress call was never made and contact was lost. >> he probably ran into severe turbulence that happens all the time, literally all the time. he requests a higher altitude to get around or to get over it. that is absolutely normal in these kind of situation. what is not normal is to not to hear from him again it is too too early to tell what happened to 8501 but most experts believe weather played a major role. according to the safety record 10 percent of fatal crashes since 20 # on four occurred while a plane was in mid flight. mike and alex. >> yeah, something happened, take off and landing. jenny, grim reminder there of all of those crashes. 7:06. still say the safe is way to travel. two officers are your following a garage fire in frankford.

fire fighters responded to a call shortly before 1:30 this morning in the # 100 block of arch street. according to reports one officer suffered a leg injury other officer's jurist said to be minor. residents to lived in the apartment above the garage made it out safely. the cause of the fire is under investigation at this hour. and a single mother is grieving a sudden tragic loss of one of her children after he have was hit and killed by a police patrol car. this is in new jersey. she said he was simply on his way to a sleep over at ace friend's house when it happened. >> so lets get to sabina kuriakose she joins us live from the franklin township police department do we know if the patrol car lights were honor not. >> reporter: right now witnesses at the scene told us that the cruiser's lights and sirens were not flashing when it struck the little boy. this is every parent's worst nightmare, the family tells us that the little boy's shift at

a local hospital. he was off from school because of winter break and heading to a sleep over with two other boys at a friend house. they were a hundred yards away from that house when the little boy was struck and killed. behind the wheel of that car, a police officer. now, the two other boys survived. it is not clear if they were hurt at all. and they obviously watched their friend get hit and can't imagine what that did to them. now officials say the officer was responding to an urgent call but witnesses say the march cruiser did not have lights or sirens on. prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation. >> the gloucester county prosecutor's office is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred earlier this evening in franklin township. the victim was a ten year-old boy, and the driver of the vehicle was a franklin township police officer. the matter is currently under investigation. we will release more details as we receive them, and we would like to offer our deepest condolences to the

family of that child. >> reporter: franklin township released a statement which reads to us in part quote while this is very difficult for the young would i's family it is also very difficult for that police officer involved. officers responded to an urgent call. we will support the officer who is involved in this. he is very shaken up by being involved in this incident and we are supporting him in this very difficult time. now the officer was taken to the hospital from the scene although, it is not clear what, if any injuries he may have sustain. this morning we're told that an autopsy is scheduled on the the little boy sometime today, mike and alex back to you. horrible. >> yes. >> 7:09. new york city police commissioner william bratton criticizes rank and file after new york city cops turn their back on the mayor at the funeral for slain officer rafael ramos. there was a strong showing of solidarity at saturday's funeral with more than 25,000 officers from across the country showing up, in support

of ramos who was gunned down with his partner in his patrol car. but when new york mayor bill deblasio spoke many turned their backs. commissioner brat ton said their actions had in place at ramos's funeral. >> i certainly don't support that action, yesterday. i think it was very inappropriate at that event. that funeral was held to honor officer ramos and to bring politics or to bring issues into that event i think was very inappropriate. the commissioner called for less rhetoric and more dial owing and marries totally supportive of officers. former president george hw bush, may be released from the hospital soon according to a family spokesmen. the 90 year-old has been in the hospital since last week after experiencing shortness of breath. he has been kept reportedly as a precaution. the former president suffering from parkinson's disease but he spent his 90th birthday on a skies dive. a ceremony in kabul yesterday writes an end to the the war in afghanistan,

he caught dramatic moments before fire fighters arrived on the scene. the community came together to help those trapped in the burning homes. >> it was just like, i need him to jump. >> neighbors also helped catch other children who were inside. they could not get to one child but a fire fighter did thankfully. six people were hurt, including four children. fire fighters say that the fire was started by food that was left unattended on the stove. >> not sure if i would have thought to take out a cell phone and start filming at that moment. >> instead of maybe helping. >> many kid are, off for winter break. you know christmas to new years break. but some kids got a bad letter in the nail. >> yeah, parents of the students at walter pal inner middle school just had letters sent home saying that the school won't reopen after the who will take break. they are scrim blink to find a new school for the children. the school will shut down after december 31st because administrators were not able to meet with the school

district of philadelphia the dispute was over money. the the school never hinted a at shutting down and parents just don't know what to do. >> we have to wait until the break to find out school for our kid. >> you may remember walter pal inner charter high school suddenly this shut down a few months ago. the district says that palmer did not have a chart tore run the high school in the first place and it is not clear if the fall out is forcing the middle school to shut down too. >> we shall see. 7:13. the search for shane montgomery continues more than one month after he disappeared. volunteer divers are returning to the schuylkill river yesterday to look for any sign of this missing 21 year-old. shane went missing early thanksgiving morning and police, the the fbi, and volunteers of searched for him in and around the schuylkill river. last week divers found shane's car seat. a clue that this hope in this search. >> what we're doing now is starting from where the keys were found and we're eliminating areas as we work our way down the river. >> family says they are not giving up.

air asia flight 8501 vanish sunday morning over java sea. indonesia search and rescue team says thought is plane is at the bottom of the sea. the flight with 162 people on board was traveling from indonesia to singapore. officials say that the pilot asked to increase his altitude from 32,000 feet to 38,000 feet because of the rough weather. but that request could not initially be granted because another aircraft was in that air space. by the time the clearance could be given the the flight had to disappear from radar. distress call was not made. officials stress they are still searching for answers about what could have happen. the plane's pilot is said to have thousands of hours of experience aviation experts believe storms may have played a major role in this disappearance. >> probably, few airplanes have gotten in and gotten out of just by looking at that map. i could be wrong on that but
