tracking just how much. >> frustrated father searching for answers after a tragic fire kills his two children and two others. >> i want to know who, why, wh when. >> investigators return to the scene hoping a clue will help them figure out how the deadly fire started. >> live from center city in philadelphia this is fox 29 news at 5:00. >> we begin tonight with breaking news in delaware coun county. skyfox is live as you can see over a house fire. this is happening on the 200 block of wyndham lane in wayne. you can see there are some fire crews on that -- oh and that scene. there's plenty of smoke coming from the roof. you can see some flames going but do you see there are fire crews on the scene getting water on that fire. this is a large house in wayne. this fire has been going on for quite sometime now. we don't have any word right now on any injuries, of course, we'll keep you updated as soon as we learn any new information. >> first at 5:00 mother nature leaving her mark across the region. this is the scene in dozens of

neighborhoods after a powerful storm whipped through the area. thank you so much for joining us. i'm lucy noland. >> i'm iain page. many homes still without power tonight. in fact, some areas won't have their electricity turned back on until the end of the week. we are live with team coverage for you tonight. fox 29's karen hepp live in parkside with a look at the damage some neighborhoods are dealing with. but let's begin with chief meteorologist scott williams. scott, we're under a severe thunderstorm watch. more storms could be headed our way. that's right, iain. we do have that severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 o'clock pretty much the entire area. the exception cape may county in south jersey and also southern sections of delaware. the threat is there for scattered gusty storms. we could see winds gusting again over 60 miles per hour as well as some small hail. let's focus in on ultimate doppler current follow active severe thunderstorm warnings in our viewing area, however, take a look at this activity moving out of maryland. it is severe and will likely be moving into new castle county, delaware, over the neck several minutes or so.

as we take a look right now, you can see it's moving on off to the east. 30 miles per hour storm impacting bear, delaware, by 5:30. salem by 5:51 and the threat is there for heavy rain and gusty winds. also, a few cells popping in berk county, just south of the hamburg area moving toward the lehigh valley as well the pocono mountains. we'll keep our eye on currently nothing severe. lightning right nowing see in this bock over 100 lightning strikes. the ingredients the fuel for those firing showers and storms it's there upper 80s right now and as we look at the forecast from now until tonight few strong and severe thunderstorms but not a repeat performance of last night. i'll talk about when we finally dry out and cool down lou cease coming. >> all right, talk to you then, scott. as we baton down the hatches for tonight' storms some residents are still trying to clean up from last night's. our karen hepp live now in parkside with a look at what some people are dealing with karen? >> reporter: thanks lucy. we can feel the winds picking up

out here. take a look at the scene at parkside right at 54th and parkside behind the ma in. n music center. they have an event over there by the way. so many trees down right now. we have the power crews out there. you can hear the chain sauce on and off. that's the sound we'll here because we have so many big old trees that came down knocking out to power to so many. let's take look at the scene in another section of the city let's go to mt. airy. there was a tree that came down and it just whole lapped some cars there. badly damaged when the tree came down on them. this is on east mt. airy avenue. the tree came down on that red escort and a silver maxima lots and lots of damage there and certainly a lost insurance claims as well. let's go out to the mainline in delaware county. we had so many people there certainly lost power. my kids camp lost power at cabrini college. many others. trees and wires came down the scene in radnor delaware county on spruce tree road. so many thousands without power there and finally another dramatic scene that we have from bucks county levittown area, we

have ivy hill road, we have a tree actually smoldering you can see when the wires came on that. neighbor next door was concerned. here's what she said. when i came home as we smelt the fire there was cable wires from our yard and then that tree fell down in his yard, and this morning i was outside i saw white smoke coming, came down here and you could see it. it was at the top of the tree then in the middle of the tree. >> reporter: so the crews are busy but we've got so many streets just like this one that are shut down. it's going to be a long commute tonight for a lot of folks who are trying get home. got a town of volume out there on our major arteries right now. lots of detours so expect delays if you're at home waiting for someone to come home. they may have have so find a wandering path in order to do so. lucy, back to you,. >> thank you, karen. you can track the weather in your neighborhood on myfoxphilly.com. click the weather tab for the latest radar and send us your weather pictures by clicking the

ureport tab. happening now a man is under arrest accused of breaking into a woman's home in upper darby township. police believe she may not have been his only victim. how many other break ins police think he may have been involved inform we get the answers from fox 29's bruce gordon live in upper darby township. bruce? >> reporter: iain, young women here in upper darby may be resting a little easier tonight with news of the arret of 21 year old tyrell bock kerr. he is charged in connection with an incident on april 16th here on the 7200 block of guilford road and he's considered a prime suspect in four other local cases of the very same sort in the weeks that followed. now, on that april 16th incident, female juvenile says she was wakened from her living room couch around 3:00 o'clock in the morning to find a slender black man around 5-foot eight to 5-foot 10 standing over her. she says he asked her about buying marijuana. she told him to leave and he did. later, she picked tyrell booker out of a photo lineup.

now four other cases followed in one the intruder attempted to grope the woman. now, there were no signs of forced entry in any of these cases. nothing was ever stolen but police superintendent hi michael chitwood says she's were indeed frightening incidents. >> i mean i can't imagine you're in the privacy of your home and this bum walks in and thank god, thank god he didn't hurt anybody and we were scared to death the potential his brazenness was increasing. and the potential for violence in anyone of these could be astronomical. >> reporter: now, in the latest incident in question that was back last friday evening, the intruder in that case was beaten back by a 52 year old woman carrying a baseball bat. it's believed that intruder was actually looking for that 52 year old woman's daughter. in all of these cases, these were young women that we're talking about ages 16 to around 32 years of age. booker we can tell you was on parole at the time of his tuesday arrest.

he had been in prison up through last december on a burglary convict. he's back behind bars tonight. iain? >> all right, bruce, thank you. a major development in a delaware county hit-and-run that seriously injured 18 year old christopher brooks. police have charged 25 year old adrian mc ray and 31 year old tie wind heimer in connection with the hit-and-run it happened just before 11:00 on apri april 21st along chester pike in ridley park. police say mc ray was behind the wheel during the hit-and-run. wind heimer helped him cover up the crime by hiding the truck and ultimately selling it. >> it disturbs me to think that an individual can do harm to another individual, leave them on the side of the road to die and not provide any assistance at all and go through the ex tents they did to cover this up. the victim lost his leg below the right knee and is still recovering from his injuries. mc ray and wind heim mr. are facing numerous charge. >> new developments in the

deadly southwest philadelphia fire. the families of the four children who died are, of cour course, still reeling from those deaths. but now are asking what could have started it and who if anyone will be held responsible for the fire that broke out in the middle of the night? fox 29's dave schratwieser is live at the scene, and dave, emotions are still running very high. >> reporter: no doubt about that, lucy. fire investigators more than half a dozen investigators and detectives worked this scene today for more than three hours out here at the fire scene. they were focusing on the front porch in the middle of the block where they believe this fire started but still no cause at this hour. victims families meanwhile continue to grieve. >> nothing. i walk away with nothing report roar patrick left city hall meeting wednesday morning frustrated and in tears still searching for answers in the death of his two young sons and two other children in saturday's three alarm inferno on gesner street. >> i want to know who, why,

when. >> four year old patrick and three week old taj perish in the fire that swept through nine homes in a matter of minutes. four year old twins marie and marry ella bowa also lost their lives. he wants to know what touched off the deadly blaze. >> i want to know if it's a murder. if it's an incident. owe want to know if somebody did it intentionally. >> why they did that. >> his sift and niece are still hospitalized with serious injuries from the fire. she, too, wants investigators to find out what caused the fire and if anyone should be held responsible. >> i want to know who started the fire. people are sleeping 2:00 o'clock in the night and the house just caught on fire. >> reporter: meanwhile emotions were still running high in the neighborhood. fox 29 was there as detectives and fire investigators returned to the scene. they're still trying to pinpoint

the cause. they went door to door speaking with neighbors as they look into reports that fireworks may have ignite add couch on the front porch where the blaze began. >> the fireworks stopped, then i heard popping and cracking sou sound. i look out my window and i seen the couch on fire across the street. >> the city still don't have nobody in custody because they're doing an investigation. who is investigate hook? >> reporter: now, investigators are looking into a report that a bottle rocket may have landed on a couch on the front porch and touch off this blaze. they have still not confirmed that at this hour. we'll have the latest on the investigation coming up at 6:00. by the way the folks collecting donations here for the victims families say they have plenty of clothing at this point. they need water, other drinkable items and not perishable foods brought here. but they have plenty of clothing at this point. iain? >> dave, thank you. speaking of donation if's you'd like to donate to victims affected by this tragic fire just head to our website myfoxphilly.com and click the scene on tv link. >> kicking the smoking habit can be frustrating but researchers

>> new castle man busted for shoplifting. that's at all. a surveillance camera caught michael penn stealing from a verizon store in late june then again on sunday. officers say when they finally tracked him down, he was carrying two of his children eight month old an five year old and they say he was stuffing something down this baby's pan pants. that something they say was 15

baggies of heroin in his child's diaper. he posted bail. his children are now with their grandmother. >> he will em bam battled state representative jp miranda made it in front of a judge this morning one day after a bench warrant was issued when he failed to show up in court. miranda faces corruption charges and he was supposed to be -- appear before a judge yesterday to show he had has a lawyer representing him. well his attorney says the scheduling problem that him running late. miranda was the focus of a fox 29 investigation which revealed he had a no show worker on his staff. prosecutors accuse him of using that position to funnel state money to his sister who is also facing charges. his trial is slated for january. >> one of jerry sandusky' as topped sons is talking to oprah winfrey about how his father allegedly sexually abused him. the oprah winfrey network says the interview will air tomorrow night. the network says matt sandusky talks about grooming and

manipulation by injury sun from the age of eight. matt sandusky' allegations were not part of the criminal case that ended two years ago. a jury convicted jerry sandusky on 45 counts of abuse. he is now serving a 30 to 60 year sentence. >> e-z pass users look out new exam is targeting you. the port authority of new jersey says check your e-mail if you received anything stating you did not make app e-z pass payment just delete it immedia immediately. invoice is attached to the e-mail asking for all kinds of private information. that is what the scammers are after. the port authority says it never sends invoices via e-mail. have you pulled a tick off your kid or pet yet? lyme disease is once again exploding in our area. there are more lyme disease cases in pennsylvania than anywhere else in the country and new jersey is third. fox 29's karen hepp with the latest on this growing epidemic. >> your kids at camly or having picnic. you know the tick dangers walking in the tall grass, hiking in the woods, but the

lyme disease epidemic is growing so rapidly here, pennsylvania is now number one for the most cases in the whole country. and new jersey is right behind it at number three. so you really don't have to do too much at all in order to get lyme disease. >> i have an aunt that hit once. she is not an outdoors person. she goes from her house to her car in medford, new jersey, and she's the one that got it. >> reporter: it's so bad pennsylvania just create add task force last month to combat the problem. you know deer ticks are tiny and very hard to see. you know to look for bulls eye you may or may not get even the most seasoned professionals can be surprised by it. >> so this is my boy and he had just gotten a bath. >> reporter: own dr. mike cirigliano just found a lime rash on his own son. >> low and behold he gets a bath this past weekend and my wife says, oh, he's got a rash. i think he might have eczema. i took a picture and you know what this is, that is the rash

of lyme disease. >> that started an antibiotic right away. experts say it's critical to treat quickly before there are bigger problems. joe fisher knows the danger ands and take precautions like most of us some of the time. >> we use a deet spray and follow the other guidelines of light clothing they wear their socks up. again that's camping. not really out on the play ground. >> we have woods and wooded area in our backyard. so it's kind of a concern. we always use insect repellant but when we come out i tend to be little lacked. >> at the playground most kids don't wear long pants and sleeves it's not realistic on 90 some degree days but dr. mike says, insectary little pant clothes can help and nightly checks are a must. >> what i plan on doing is if they're out in a wooded area, they're going to get bath that night. >> karen hepp, fox 29 news. karen reports the most affected groups are boys five to nine and men ages 45 to 55. >> which makes sense those are

people out in the woods most of the time. the cdc says the tick has to be attached for 24 to 36 hours to transmit that disease so a good soaking is a great idea and man did we get soaking yesterday. back to your weather authority now. look at this damage from the storm that is rolled through our area last night smashing cars, pulling up trees from their roots in mt. airy. it's going to be very hard for lot of folks to clean all this up before more storms hit our area tonight. is it going to be severe? chief meteorologist scott williams with with the answer. that's right, lucy. a lot of folks in their backyards cleaning up picking up that debris they should keep an eye on the sky because we have that threat for more strong and severe thunderstorms but i don't anticipate anything like we what we saw last night. last night we saw a nasty squall line and organized line of showers and storms producing all of that wind damage. this afternoon and evening, it's scattered about. so most of you will stay warm and humid. a few of you will see some of those showers and thunderstorms developing.

this activity has weakened now moving out of maryland entering into sections of new castle county. arriving toward the middletown area by a little after 5:30. as we zoom a little farther to the north, the pocono mountains right now, the lehigh valley, this particular cell around the poke area wind gap has become severe. severe thunderstorm warning there for the lehigh valley and southern sections of carbon and monroe until 6:00 o'clock. the threat is there for some damaging winds as well as some small hail. the counties highlighted in yellow pretty much the entire area until 10:00 o'clock tonight. we have that threat for some scattered gusty showers and storms. so you can see by 6:00 o'clock not everyone seeing the activi activity. it's going to be spotty and sporadic across the area. by 9:00 o'clock, we could see some activity along the i-95 corridor. continuing through about the midnight time frame as well. coming up, we'll have the timing of when the humidity decreases as well as the high temperatures with that seven day forecast. iain and lucy? >> all right, talk to you then,

♪ >> here's live look at ultimate doppler radar most of our area under severe thunderstorm watch. sixty two scott williams has more on the timing and your full weather authority forecast coming up in justify minutes yesterday's wild weather being blamed on four items in new york state. meteorologists say a tornado hit smithfield madison county. four people including a four month old baby were killed when a house collapsed. the national weather service is in the area today assessing the damage. >> we are following breaking news. skyfox flying over a two alarm fire in delaware county. this is on the 200 block of wyndham lane in wayne. it started just about 4:30 or so and you can still see those flames shooting through the roof. and now here's look live at the scene right now. one person was transpor transpoo crozer chester burn center. no word on how this all started.

firefighter had the big big ordeal on their hands. they had winds gusting out of the southwest at 25 miles an hour. we are going to stay on top of this and bring you details as they come in. >> crucial funding for the philadelphia school district could go up in smoke. the pennsylvania state senate passed a budget sent by the house but they amended the cigarette tax portion of the legislation. the amendment would end the tax planned to fund the city's cash strapped schools after five years. now the amendment heads back to the house for approval before going to governor corbett. the problem is the house is on summer break so they won't vote until the fall. philadelphia school superintendent william hite releasing this statement "with schools scheduled to open in less than two months, it is crucial that we secure the needed funding to support our students and schools. there's no clear timetable for house consideration on this amended bill. nor any guarantee of final passage we implore the house and senate to come to an agreement immediately on cigarette tax legislation that does not include a sunset provision.

nothing like last night. we'll zoom in closer. you can see toward northern sections of lancaster county also moving around the spring area in berk county the activity we were watching earlier in sections of maryland has really weakened rapidly moving into northern sections of new castle county. however, as we move toward the lee his valley and the poke neck mountains severe thunderstorm warnings there until 6:45. you can see around the whitehall area, more bethlehem moving toward nazareth lower mount bethel be on the look out for some gusty winds and also some small hail with this activity. that's moving on off to the north and east at about 30 miles per hour. so gusty winds. the potential for hail as well as some lightning within this box you can see highlighted in red we're looking at about close to 500 lightning strikes. most of the action has been confined south of the nation's capitol this afternoon as well as evening. so what you need to know right now it's warm and humid those scattered showers and storm are kind of bubbling up with the heat of the day.

>> breaking news right now. two alarm fire at a mainline mansion. this story has been unfolding for the past hour. the huge fire burned through just beautiful home that looked like a castle. and we now know that at least one person is hurt. i'm lucy noland. >> i'm iain page let's get right out to drew dickman life in wayne tonight for us. drew? >> reporter: iain and lucy it look like they had this fire under control but just few moments ago some flames popped out of the side wink where they have the water focused on right now. it looks like they have gotten those flames under control. also, an area a little bit more towards the center of the house where you can see a lot more smoke coming out is continuing to smoulder. witnesses and neighbors have described that as at garage area of this mansion. they say that the owner was working on his car when his car went into flames. it caught the rest of the house and fire. you mentioned the one injury. they say they saw him walk into an ambulance, he had minor injuries, a burn to his face.
