gunman jumping over the counter of latinos meat market. the bad guys met resistance. the two legally armed store owners brothers fired back killing two of the three. adam said their use of deadly force was self-defense. >> the use of force in this situation was legal and justified. >> reporter: the dead man 21-year-old raul hernandez who had an active warrants and 35-year-old koe. the episode lasted less than 22 seconds. the gunmen after robbing the register got weigh. >> we're looking for that third male and we would ask the public for whatever help they can provide us. we need to identify that third male. >> reporter: bullet holes pock marked the little storm. the owner declined to appear on camera saying death threats had been made choosing his words carefully reading's police chief said what occurred was the right result.

>> i can't advise citizens to use force. if it goes wrong there are dire consequences but in this case it worked out. >> reporter: again authorities are looking nor third man. the d.a. says there is as monica as you pointed out a $10,000 reward through the berks crime alert organization. they would like to try to find that guy. he will then be charged with second degree murder. live in reading, john rawlins channel6 "action news." back to you. >> thank you, john. a vigil for a philadelphia teenager shot and killed over the weekend is set to begin in less than an hour tonight. this as police continue to look for the people responsible. saleem west was shot about 4:40 yesterday afternoon when he was out bike riding in the city's strawberry mention section. saleem was with his friend when they got into an argument with four other men in a silver buick. according to police the car drove away then stopped. two men got out and fired 17 shots at the boys. one of them hit saleem in the back and he later died at the

hospital. no arrests have been made. anyone with information is asked to call philadelphia police. >> three people were hurt after a septa bus and a flatbed truck collided near a row of businesses in northeast philadelphia today. chopper 6hd was over the crash shortly before 12:30 this afternoon. this is the 7900 block of oxford avenue near rhawn street. septa says the route 18 bus was attempting to make a right turn onto oxford avenue right before the collision. >> well, students and parents of the philadelphia school district can breathe a sigh of relief tonight at least for now. the school reform commission made a decision today that will keep the schools operating a little longer despite the financial crisis happening in harrisburg. "action news" reporter vernon odom live in spring garden tonight for us to explain. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, monica. the budget stalemate between governor wolf and the state lawmakers continues and shows no signs of ending any time soon and that is forcing local public school leaders to go to

the banks for mammoth loans. for more than 200,000 philadelphia school children, there will apparently be no disruption of classes and activities through the end of this calendar year, 2015. the school reform commission has opened a quarter of a billion dollar credit line to carry the district through until the 120 day budget stalemate in harrisburg is finally over. governor wolf wants new tax increases and levies on natural gas drillers to generate some 400 million new dollars for the philly schools. but the gop controlled general assembly says no. the school district conference here and across the -- coffers running near enter. the philadelphia school chief says they'll have to borrow from the banks with interest. >> we're going to spend another two and a half million dollars that we don't have to borrow this money. >> reporter: on interest rates. >> on interest rates to borrow this money i mean and there probably 70 to 80 districts across the commonwealth who are also having to do the same. >> reporter: but critics of the general assembly and the

of locations. abc news reporter brandi hitt joins us tonight from l.a. with the latest on that. hi, brandy. right now health officials are trying to find the source of this e. coli outbreak focused on oregon and washington and interviewing customers who describe experiencing gut wrenching pain right after their meal. chipotle customers in oregon and washington state are being turned away. the mexican fast food chain closing its doors after an e. coli outbreak has sickened more than 20 people. >> the excruciating pain in my abdomen was something i've never experienced. it feels like your guts are being ripped out. >> reporter: most of the victims say they had eaten at a chipotle in the portland area and in western washington over the past few weeks. and experienced severe abdominal cramps and vomiting. >> kind of overwhelming like having all those problems hit at once. >> reporter: out of an abundance of caution chipotle has voluntarily shut down all 43 locations in those two

>> investigators in egypt say it is too soon to determine the cause of this weekend's deadly plane crash there but airline officials do insist that should some outside force brought that jet down. metro jet flight 9268 crashed in the egyptian dessert saturday morning on its way to russia. investigator said there were no distress calls beforehand and the crash killed 224 people on board. all of them.

airline officials say the plane was in fine shea and something outside the pilot's control caused the crash. find out what terrorist group has now claimed responsibility for that crash. >> america's oldest living president jimmy carter who was that recently diagnosed with cancer was back at work today helping to build homes for low income families. carter has become habitat for humanity's most prominent booster. today he joined volunteers at a site in memphis, tennessee. the former celebrated his 91st birthday in october and took time off over the summer to undergo treatment on cancer that was found in his liver and his brain. but today he said he was feeling fine and was happy to be back. pennsylvania health secretary karen murphy lunged the state's flu campaign today by getting her flu shot. stopping the flu starts with you is the theme of this year's drive to get many keystone residents vaccinated.

flu hits the very young and very old hardest but it can be dangerous for anyone. >> time for health check now. appears very small children are getting a surprising amount of screen time. >> that's right. in fact a local survey shows nearly half of the kids under the age of one are on electronic devices every dame health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman is at the big board with this surprising story. hey, ali. >> reporter: hey, guys, kind of a sign of the times. it was a small survey done by einstein medical center so it may not apply everywhere but experts think it adds to the evidence that electronic devices are entrenched in childhood from an early age. the survey showed by age four virtually every child had used either a smartphone tablet or computer and three-quarters of them had their own. more than three-quarters of the two-year-olds were on them daily to play games or watch videos. many parents use devices to occupy or soothe children. the academy of pediatrics had said kids under two shouldn't

have any screen time. but those recommendations have softened but it's important kids are supervised and devices are not used to pacify children. on a related note despite pledges from food makers young children are seeing more advertisements for junk food on tv than they did in past years. the team ah at yale's rudd center found from 2010 to 2014 snack food ads targeted to kids grew 10 percent. those aimed at teenagers rose 29 percent. and minority kids saw even more. most products in the ads did not meet nutritional standards. >> unfortunately the majority of those ads were for things like chips and cookies and pop tarts and products that aren't left lane thee for kids. >> reporter: and more ads have shifted to family oriented cable channels which the food industry does not consider as children's program. finally for adults if you're trying to lose weight, more evidence shows putting money where your goals are can

told. but so far there have been no evacuations. investigators are going to brief the media shortly about the situation and of course we'll have the latest in a live report coming up in our next half hour. >> in other news officials investigating the deadly crash of this metro jet airplane say it is too soon to tell what brought it down. >> this despite reports from an official -- airline official claiming it was brought down by an external force. but for now investigator say nothing can be ruled out. >> the airbus 8321 was just 23 minutes into its flight from the egyptian red sea resort headed to saint petersburg russia when it crashed over the sinai peninsula, the desert. everyone or board was killed. >> abc's elizabeth hur is live in new york tonight with the latest on the investigation. elizabeth. >> reporter: well, rick and monica we learn from airline officials today that the plane's tail was damaged back in 2001 but they say not only was it repaired just last week the plane was inspected and

cleared. and that is why they believe some outside factor is to blame here. as planes carrying bodies begin arriving in russia, and devastated families start the heartbreaking task of identifying their loved ones, new pictures of the victims including more than a dozen children are now on display at a growing memorial at the airport where the doomed flight was supposed to land. what went wrong, according to airline officials pilots lost control because of an external mechanical impact insisting there was nothing wrong with the plane. an isis linked group has already claimed responsibility but u.s. intelligence officials say right now it is too soon to rule on a cause. >> does isis have the ability the shoot down an airliner? >> it's unlikely but i wouldn't rule it out. >> reporter: it was early saturday morning the flight left the resort city.

egyptian officials say there were no obvious issues or distress calls before the plane crashed in the sinai desert killing all 224 passengers and crew on board. investigators quickly recovered the flight recorder from the debris field but aviation experts say the real answers may have to come from the wreckage. >> this airplane came apart instantaneously so there may not be any data that would be appropriate or that would show us what really happened on those black boxes. >> reporter: but right now according to investigators those black boxes are in good shape and at this time their best bet for new clues and so those boxes have been sent to experts in cairo for analysis. that is the very latest from here, live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for channel6 "action news." monica, back to you. >> thank you elizabeth. federal investigators have found the wreckage of the el faro cargo ship that went missing near the bahamas in hurricane joaquin. it sank with 33 people on board. there were no survivors found.

now according to the ntsb sonar indicates the sli ship landed upright on the ocean floor and that could help crews recover the recorder. the navy is surveying that area. world news tonight with david muir will have more on the discovery of the el faro wreckage as well as investigation into the crash the metro jet and you can watch that following "action news" at 6:00. >> in other news tonight a mystery at the jersey shore. a woman's body was found at the bottom of a laundry chute in an atlantic city condo and hotel complex. and no one knows how she ended up there. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has the story. >> we just want justice for maria because this can't go -- we need this. >> we need to know why. >> reporter: family members are grieving tonight remembering maria morales of penns grove. her body was discovered in a laundry bin early sunday morning at the atlantic palace a condominium and hotel complex on the boardwalk in

atlantic city. >> she has two kids and her son's birthday is tomorrow. >> tomorrow. >> she didn't deserve to be taken away the way that she did. >> reporter: police were called to atlantic palace this condominium and hotel complex at new york avenue and the boardwalk about 7:00 a.m. sunday morning. that's where they found the body of a woman in a laundry basket. this hotel guest says he spoke to a security guard who saw the scene. >> she came from the 28th floor all the way down to the bottom of the chute. that's all he told. her dress she had on was all ripped apart. they weren't for sure if it came from her going down the laundry chute or if it was before. >> reporter: the atlantic county prosecutor's office and atlantic city police are investigating the death. an autopsy was performed this morning but authorities have not released the cause of death. some residents and guests including this couple from australia are concerned about the death and the lack of information coming from atlantic palace. >> staying in the hotel and

social media. >> former wwe wresttory jimmy superfly snuka returned to an allentown courtroom to plead not guilty. he's been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend back in 1983. the now 72-year-old maintains that the death of 23-year-old nancy argentino was "an unfortunate accident" and that was why he was never charged. comments in the pro wrestler's autobiography spurred a new grand jury investigation in 2013. snuka's defense attorney is asking the jump to move this trial out of lehigh county. the second of two men who struck and killed a mother and her three children while street raising in northeast philadelphia is going to prison. khusen akhmedov is sentenced to 17 to 34 years behind bars. he was raising holloman in
