death of saoirse kennedy hill. she was found unconscious at her grandmother's home and she was written to challenge where she was pronounced dead. tonight, the kennedy family is heart broken and what ethel kennedy is now saying. more from hyannisport, massachusetts. >> reporter: tonight, heartbreak on the kennedy compound as family members grieve the loss of 22-year-old saoirse kennedy hill, the granddaughter of ethel and robert f. kennedy, who sources say passed away after a possible overdose. >> 21 marchant in hyannisport for a possible o.d. >> reporter: authorities responding to emergency calls around 2:30 thursday afternoon, at the storied six-acre family estate in hyannisport, massachusetts, the same ho where her grandmother lives. >> bring that ambulance closer to the front door. >> reporter: finding the boston college student unresponsive, rushing her to the hospital, where she later was pronounced dead.

today, 91-year-old ethel kennedy seen entering the property in a golf cart. the kennedy family saying in a statement, "our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved saoirse. her life was filled with hope, promise and love." grandmother ethel adding, "the world is a little less beautiful today." saoirse wrote openly about her long battle with depression in a student newspaper three years ago, describing "bouts of deep sadness." she was the only child of paul hill and courtney kennedy hill. her death marking the latest chapter in a tragic family legacy, including the assassinations of her grandfather and president john f. kennedy. loved ones remembering her on social media. uncle rfk jr. calling her "a fearless adventurer" who "inspired curiosity" maria shriver saying, "she left a gaping hole in the lives of all of those who loved her." >> the kennedy family has dealt with so much. and whit johnson is live in hyannisport. and what authorities are investigating now, the circumstances surrounding her death and you have news about the autopsy tonight?

>> reporter: that's right. the autopsy was performed today but the medical examiner is awaiting toxicology results to determine the manner of his death. tonight, the family is remembering her as a passionate volunteer with a generous spirit. >> whit johnson. thanks to you tonight. a major headline in new york city tonight. an nypd judge is recommending the firing of an officer accused of choking eric garner. you can hear him say i can't breathe at least 11 times. he later died. tonight, it's now up to the police commissioner here in new york whether the officer will be fished. here is abc's stephanie ramos. >> reporter: this is the video that helped galvanize the black lives matter movement. nypd officer daniel pantaleo and eric garner wrestling to the ground, after he was stopped for allegedly selling cigarettes on the street. >> i can't breathe. >> reporter: garner screaming

those words "i can't breathe" 11 times moments before he stops moving. he later dies. tonight five years later a judge ruling that officer pantaleo's actions and that chokehold was reckless, recommending that he should be fired. >> we've been waiting for five years for someone to say that he did something wrong, and they finally made that decision today. >> reporter: the judge ruling that seven-second chokehold violated department policy. >> today, we finally saw a step towards justice and accountability. >> reporter: the decision coming weeks after the doj declined to press federal charges against pantaleo. the police union warning todays decision should give every officer pause. >> when someone calls 911 and dispatchers call you, and there's a circumstance when you have to put your hands on someone, call your sergeant first. because you will not have the backing of the city.

president trump. he picked a texas republican congressman john ratcliffe after the hearing with r0sh9 mueller. so sfwhapd here is kyra phillips. >> reporter: congressman john ratcliffe didn't even a make it as week as president trump's choice for director of national intelligence before the president pulled the plug. >> i asked him, i said, "do you want to go through this for two or three months or want me to maybe do something else?" he thought about it. i said, "it's going to be rough." >> reporter: ratcliffe's nomination, embattled from the start. the president picked him just four days after the congressman lashed into robert mueller. >> donald trump is not above the law. he's not, but he damn sure shouldn't be below the law. >> reporter: democrats called ratcliffe partisan and unqualified. >> the president is more interested in getting a loyalist than someone who will speak truth to power. >> reporter: republicans grew concerned as ratcliffe's resume came under scrutiny.
