Hi dad! Here's the easiest way to find out if SFLan will work for you. Simply look at what wireless networks your computer can see. If one of them is sflanxx, xx being a two digit number, then you are in range of one of SFlan's nodes. Set your wireless TCP/IP to DHCP then pray to the wireless gods that the node will assign you an IP address. If that happens, you are connected.

A lot of advice out are ways to optimize your chances of catching an sflan signal: antenna placement, bigger and better antennas, etc. The map on this site shows approximately where the nodes are, and whether it is currently up or down.

Hope this helps.

All the SFLANs in my neighborhood show as locked. I can see 3 to 4 of them usually, but alas I am unable to use them. I always assumed this was because only those who have a Node would be allowed to use this.
