Zap was sold in most of the disreputable book stores in The City and in back of almost every head shop anywhere. Remember head shops? There must have been a kit to use when opening one. The most necessary items would be beaded curtains, leather sandals, incense and rolling papers.
Back then just selling a clean pipe would get you closed down. The folks that ran them were usually nice couples who were hoping legalization would be done by 1970.

Is Lucia Martyn a word rearranging Bot placed here to collect clicks?

I remember my first head shop I went into, it was called third coast and the incense was strong, they had a big James Worthy poster on the wall and tons of “tobacco” pipes

even in a "backwoods, 2 horse mill town in the South"

not sure it was a James Worthy poster, can't remember, but it was a big poster

incense was strong, patchouli was heavy in the air

a plethora of rolling papers

and a lot of small, fancy "tobacco" pipes

a playground for your head

How could I have forgotten black light posters?
Maybe it was something I ate.

Next week; Hoods, Greasers and Beats.
Which ones turned into DeadHeads?

I think before that happens there should be a deep discussion about the differences between Hoods and Greasers.

A discussion with someone from West Virginia is what started the idea of the genesis of the dead head. I was surprised that the Hood-Greaser difference was known far back in the hills of WV.
Fishing and nature seemed to me to be more a Hood thing. I never fished with a Greaser. But then did Greasers morph to Gear Heads who I know liked salt water fishing? (I don't care how many flaming skulls are tattooed on your arms, it still looked funny to see am MC vest over a pair of surfer shorts)

And where did the Non-conformists fall in this issue.

Ours always had an ample supply of whippet cartridges.

For restaurant use only, of course.
