I haven't seen an 802.11g card with a Tx signal power >= 200mW, so I would expect your card's Tx power to be in the ~40mW range.

If you are not using a directional antenna, I doubt you can achieve a link longer than 150 yards, even if you have line of sight and one of the stronger cards.

One thought that did ocurr to me... I have experiened some problems doing site surveys, while my card was configured for a particular SSID. If you can see more than one different SSID in your site survey, then you are not having this problem... My card configuration program on windows has 4 preset configurations, the "default" which had no SSID specified, and the rest. by choosing that "default" without an SSID I'm able to get my card to do the site survey without problems.

In answer to your previous question, from what I've seen most APs do broadcast their SSID. Since their default settings try to make finding them as easy as possible, and most people don't change their default settings. (including their home AP's passwords)

using a belkin f5d6050 usb radio, I could see BARWN-Public ssid from about 2.5 miles away. But I can't associate. I guess BARWN can't hear the signal from the Belkin. When I put the belkin into a steel plate and point it at the AP then it associates. so try adding a reflector to your radio.
