this is a growing problem for the biden white house. if they pretend that the white house doesn't talk about that, it's going to be a big, big issue because that disinformation bubble will only grow bigger and bigger before it bursts in their face. >> should biden be more accessible to the media? are there some grumblings yet in the press corps about biden's accessibility? >> absolutely. i think we hit the nail on the head. they like to keep a tight leash on their principal so he doesn't come out in front of the camera and gaffe. i understand that. but i'm never going to advocate against more transparency from biden. a lot of times we do hear him speak from us, signing these eos. it is a really man cured in its have neared. if a biden staffer says get out of the west wing, we don't have an option. trump allowed us to ask him unvarnished questions. we knew what his perspective was at all times. >> right. >> and biden has built this blue wall of his staffers between us and him, and i think it will be a bit of an issue if he doesn't come o

joining me from the white house is nbc's chief white house correspondent kristen welker, and from capitol hill leigh ann caldwell. kristen, let's start with covid relief and the talks biden has had back to back, the ten republicans and then today with the senate democratic caucus. what's been the message? is there -- are they -- are we officially in a moment where we can say they're negotiating with republicans? or are they just talking? >> reporter: i think they're talking, chuck, with the intention to keep talking. i am told these talks are going to continue right through the moment that this legislation is passed because it's my sense that the white house is just not going to back off of its $1.9 trillion proposal. and speaking to officials here just moments ago they reenforced what we have heard from president biden from the start which is that he got to that number because he believes that's what's necessary to get the vaccine rollout to where it needs to be, to get the aid that state and local governments need, and to get those direct checks to americans. now, again, just to put thi

kristen welker is over in the white house. sam, now concerned are public health officials about the idea that there could be a lingering impact fra super bowl celebrations not just where you are but around the country. >> reporter: look, absolutely, hallie, they are concerned, the officials i have talked torques they've also said they feel like this is bad actors, a few of them, ruining the reputation of everyone else leaving a stain. that may be true, but based on what we've seen over the last 48 to 72 hours, not just last night, but in the days leading up to the super bowl, it certainly looks a lot more widespread than that and i am referring specifically right now to some videos of hotel parties, a deejay and 50 cent throwing parties where you see people cramped together dancing, no masks on, champagne bottles spraying everywhere, being poured into people's mouths. we are in the midst of trying to get our arms around all of the increased spikes we've seen from the holidays and travel and now we have potentially another majo
