the number of students at penn state in the first and family students at penn state is growing. our alumni have given us a large number of scholarships to help need-based students. $30 million in the last campaign. well below average for pennsylvania and the nation, student default rates. all those are good signs, but if you dig a little bit deeper, you see that there are two problems that i think have an enormous impact. one of those is that we have too many students going years five and six and borrowing money to do it. they're not completing as fast as they can. a large number of them are students that are not as well off financially, and what they end up doing is creating this cycle of working too many hours and taking fewer classes, perhaps not doing as well as their talent would allow because they are working. and then they go forward and take more time to graduate. some of them give up. this is the group of people for which i believe we have too many that don't complete, and then years five and six they are borrowing more money because that's what it takes to get that deg

so he started his day right here at penn ridge high school. he's now lodged in the bucks county prison. only nbc 10 cameras were there as 15-year-old cody michael hendricks was accompanied into district court on charges he brought this knife to school and used it to chase and force a female classmate into the boys bathroom. that's when according to police he held it to the 10th grader's throat in an attempt to get off her clothes and raped her. it all unfolded before the first bell at 6:40 this morning. >> did all that happen? >> reporter: on his way out of court he covered his face and said nothing before his ride to jail. authorities say hendricks also threatened a male teacher with the knife. that teacher interrupted the assault and ran into the hallway to summon help. ultimately police arrived and hendricks was arrested. >> we were pretty mad today, because like guys aren't supposed to do that to girls. and, you know, you should have more respect for them. >> i think it's getting out of hand with a lot of things in school when it comes to
