christy smith, nbc, bay area news. one person is dead after an overnight crash on a south bay freeway. this happened about 130 this morning. southbound 101 north of fair oaks avenue in sunnyvale. the chp says a speeding driver in a honda crashed into the back of a nissan. she moved over to the shoulder, got out of her car, started walking away from her car in the roadway, and that is when she was hit by a mazda and killed. chp says the driver of the mazda was under the influence. officers arrested her for dui. the cause of the initial crash is under investigation. well, new record for california travel spending has reached an all time high at more than $150 billion. last year, governor newsom made the announcement in a message taped at the top of the golden gate bridge. last year, $150 billion of investment tourists around the globe coming to the great state of california, people coming back not only to visit, but coming back to live as well. the previous record for travel spending was just under $145 billion in 2019.

christie smith, nbc, bay area news. well a surprise move today by federal prosecutors. they've asked a judge to reopen the sentencing for david depape. he is a man convicted of breaking into the home of former house speaker nancy pelosi and attacking her husband. yesterday, depape was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for the hammer attack. however, prosecutors say depape did not have an opportunity to speak on his behalf in court. so shortly after the hearing, they asked a judge to reopen the sentencing. though depape was not required to speak, law requires he'd be given the opportunity to do so. the judge acknowledged she did not ask depape whether he wanted to speak and scheduled a new sentencing hearing for may 28th. depape still faces separate state charges. jury selection for that trial begins next week. not unexpected at all, but now official san francisco mayor london breed launched her reelection campaign today. take a look at some video of the mayor at previous events. today we caught up with her and she talked about her goals for a second term, which in

christie smith, nbc, bay area news. all right, look out for that one as well. christie thank you. fears among bay area postal workers continue to grow another one was just robbed this week in palo alto. it happened on thursday. the victim in his 60s. investigators say the suspects not only took the man's keys, but they also knocked him to the ground in the parking lot of the southwood parking complex. it is the second incident in palo alto within the last week. last saturday, police investigators arrested two people after one of them allegedly pointed a gun at a male carrier's head while demanding his keys. the motivation to do these crimes is to get the keys to get something out of the male, to do a financial crime, he says. there are many open investigations regarding these crimes. a $150,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspects. back to the bay where san francisco mayor london breed launched her reelection campaign. this is file video of her at a previous event, but today she talked to us about her goals for a second term.
