ian cull nbc, bay area news. a south bay museum has helped preserve a key part of american history, but the museum is now on its last leg. for almost 50 years, the san jose museum of textile and quilts has been showing how quilts are more than just decoration. some of its exhibits date back to 1840. many of the quilts were made by pioneer women to provide comfort and warmth. eventually the quilts became a form of expression. now the museum is running out of money and could close in a matter of weeks. despite all this, though, supporters point out the museum has gotten national and even international recognition because that's such an important part of our history, our american history. but even our local history and the history of immigrants coming in. i mean, this is one of the most diverse areas in the country, and we want to reflect that and what we're offering here. and if it goes away, people won't understand the void or what's lost until it's gone. absolutely and that's often the case. it's like it's gone.

i'm sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. just into our newsroom, a sad update to a story we first brought you last night at 11. the five year old child pulled from the water in contra costa county has died. it happened around 430 yesterday on bethel island. police got a call about a five year old who fell into the water near the back of a home. rescue crews pulled the child from the water about 15 minutes later. paramedics performed cpr, rushed the child to the hospital where that child later died. no other details being released right now. we'll dueling demonstrations at stanford university, jewish and non-jewish students organized an interfaith march and rally for peace this afternoon. they marched from the oval to white plaza. that is where a pro-palestinian encampment is set up. pro-palestinian protesters held a dueling rally at white plaza. we've learned the jewish students and their allies were asked to leave the area by campus security due to so-called heightened security concerns. however, there was no confrontation

same goes for protesters at other campuses here in the bay area. unfortunately not the case down south at ucla, where the school just announced that classes are canceled today because of the violence on campus overnight. this is when pro-palestinian demonstrators, who were camped on campus clashed with counter-protesters. the school says law enforcement is now stationed throughout campus and at royce hall, where the violence took place, will remain closed through friday. this was the scene yesterday north of here at cal poly humboldt, where yesterday, as i mentioned, police arrested at least 25 protesters. this was part of a sweep to remove protesters who had been occupying the campus for over a week. those arrested face a range of different charges, including unlawful assembly, vandalism, conspiracy and assault of police officers and on the other coast on the east coast in new york city, police arrested around 230 people at columbia university and city college of new york this morning, new york mayor eric adams praised his officers at city college

this moves across the bay area quickly. it's already moving out by early afternoon, and we'll be down to a few lingering showers by the afternoon. even breaks in the cloud cover showing up. how much rain we talking about? in general, a half inch to an inch of total rainfall. that will be a consistent theme across the entire bay area. a little less in the rain shadowed spots. little more in the higher elevation spots and along the coast. but it will be pretty evenly distributed across the entire bay area. and in the sierra, it will be evenly distributed snow. 10 to 20 inches falling, but not necessarily adding up because the ground is warm at this point in spring. a lot of this will melt as it hits the ground. likely about five inches around lake level at tahoe. some peaks could pick up a foot of snow, and the levels drop to around 4,000 feet through the progression of this cold storm system. right now it's the fog. temperatures retreated to the 50s. as the clouds move in, the number might actually climb by a degree. we star
