i particularly want to thank jimmy barnes for being here and being willing to share her expertise with this committee. we have some 800 to 1000 wildfires per year just in utah. when you think about the impact of these fires, going back to 2018, we had one called the dall ridge fire. what was unusual is a dramatically impacted the watershed going into rivers and streams and lakes, killed wildlife and fish, the drinking supply of people in penguins, utah. so the challenge is not just, we are putting co2 and smoke in the air and threatening structures and life, but we are also affecting our drinking water and the life of wildlife. in 2021, the parlay canyon fire forced the evacuation of 8000 residents along the wasatch front for an extended period of time. i went and met with people there and they were angry, asking why couldn't we do a better job to prevent these things from happening? i didn't have a lot of answers. we were actually even considering closing down interstate 80 as a result of that fire. so back in 2021, editor mark kelly of arizona and i introduced the wildland fire mitig

my favorite thing to do the weekend was go to barnes and noble with my mom so. i was an english major in college and. i'd hoped to work in the publishing which proved be somewhat tricky to navigate because i was not from the new york area. i didn't have a lot of contacts within publishing, so i began working in marketing instead i started off at a marketing agency and. then i moved to market, which with was with npd at the time. so the npd group acquired the books team from nielsen in 2017. and when i was on marketing team, that was kind of the first time that i realized there was a book group that did this and i knew that i wanted to be a part of it. so i began working on the books in 2019, a position opened up and i was lucky enough to get it so really i brought with me, you know, my love for books and pretty good understanding as to how companies use data to, you know, answer a business question or create strategies so i was lucky enough to get the role and then it was also up with some vigorous analyst training and to of advance my technical skills and my an
