sday. you're almost there. traffic and weather, we start. howard will have the forecast. beverly farmer is going to kick things off with traffic. >> reporter: problems for the 295 corridor. the bw parkway headed from the airport, a crash southbound at the 175 interchange. nsa, fort meed and jessup. extensive delays coming from southbound. i would take 95 south toward the capital beltway. sky 9 has been checking out this shot from the scene of that crash. where again the left side of the roadway has been blocked for a good while now on southbound 295. check out the ride for 395 virginia. that trip northbound heading up to the beltway, edsall, landmark and edging into shirlington, volume pretty light to the 14th street bridge. all lanes open there. 66, slowing as you make your way into manassas. an unusual delay in falls church to get past washington boulevard. howard has a look at our forecast. how are we looking for the

weekend? the weekend is looking pretty g. the problems are going to be the wind behind the storm system that got us yesterday with all the rain. visibility is fine on our michael & son weather camera. the day planner mix of sun and clouds with more clouds this morning and more clouds east. a little more sun this afternoon. 60 by noon. up to about 64, 65 today. that partial eclipse starts at 5:52. max 6:17 and sunset 6:19. i think many of us will be able to see that still watching the storm, though, just hitting areas to our east pretty good with the wind and the rain in new england. we have a temperature now of 55 in d.c. gaithersburg is 60. again going low to mid-60s this afternoon. andrea and mike, over to you. >> thanks, howward. we start with breaking news from overnight. sheriff's deputies opened fire on a suspect. it happened when they were responding to a domestic violence call. the suspect is in the hospital. the deputy was not hurt. one of two nurses who contracted ebola while treating the nation's first ebola

patient has declared virus free. relatives of amber vinson say doctors at emory nufort r university hospital in atlanta no longer detect the virus in her step and will move her out of isolation. cameraman ashoka mukpo was declared virus free and discharged from the medical center on wednesday. the centers for disease control will now monitor all passengers coming to the u.s. from three ebola stricken nations in west africa for three weeks. this is staggering. an academic fraud scandal at the university of north carolina went on for nearly two decades. former federal prosecutor kenneth waynestein was hired to look into something called paper classes. basically the classes only existed on paper. he found out that 3100 students took these classes over a period of 18 years. student athletes accounted for nearly half of those taking these paper classes. a whistle blower who has since

resigned claims unc steered athletes toward these classes to keep them academically eligible to play. >> wow. four former blackwater security guards charged in a deadly shooting involving civilians in baghdad in 2007 have now been convicted. a federal jury here in d.c. found one of the guards guilty of first-degree murder. the other three were convicted on charges of voluntary manslaughter. 14 iraqis were killed in the incident. 17 more were wounded. canada's parliament hill remains off limits to the public today after yesterday's deadly attack. >> a masked gunman shot and killed a 20-year-old soldier who was standing guard at canada's national war memorial in ottawa yesterday. the gunman identified at dominic adesanya went into canada's parliament and was eventually shot to death. the prime minister calls this an act of terror. >> we will neverren

intimidated. canada will never be intimidated. >> president obama spoke with the prime minister last night. the president assured him that u.s. national security teams will coordinate closely with canada as the investigation continues. there's been another security breach at the white house. >> oh, my goodness. 23-year-old maryland man now is in custody after he jumped the white house fence last night. nikki burdine is live from the white house with more on this. at least this time they got him quickly, nikki. >> reporter: that is the sunny side. but here we are yet again another person jumped over the white house fence and made it on to the north lawn. but this time was different. this time that jumper was stopped almost immediately. take a look at some of this video. police say 23-year-old dominic adesanya jumped over the fence on the north lawn about 7:15 last night. secret service officials say the man was stopped by two canines immediately. the white house was put on lockdown, though, for several hours. the man was not armed, but

officials say he did manage to kickand punch and actually hurt two of the canines. they were both taken to the vet to be checked out. the suspect from bel air, maryland was taken into custody where he will undergo psychiatric evaluation. at this point, though, charges are still pending. yesterday's incident was almost exactly one month to the days of the last person omar gonzalez who allegedly jumped over the white house fence and made it all the way into the white house. fortunately this alleged jumper didn't make it nearly as far and was stopped almost immediately as he got over the fence. by the way this is the seventh person to make it over the white house fence this year alone. back to you. >> nikki burdine live outside the white house. maryland lawmakers are demanding answers after a murder suspect was mistakenly released from prison. >> rodriguez purnell was serving time for assaulting a corrections officer. he was waiting to go on trial on murder charges when he was released. state delegate john cluster questions whether or not he was released by mistake or actually

on purpose. >> aren't we doing bed checks? aren't we checking these people to see if they are there, if they're supposed to be in our custody? >> apparently not. the first murder trial ended in a hung jury. many are worried that his release will lead to witness intimidation. a maryland teenager charged with rape inside a high school stairwell has been convicted. >> a surveillance camera showed the two together. the video did not show any attack. the state says the girl had no reason to lie. but the defense says there was enough evidence to show guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. the search continues for any evidence in the death of uva student hannah graham. investigators are still waiting for remains found over the weekend in an abandoned fields near charlottesville to be identified. >> graham was last seen on surveillance video in september walking with jesse matthew.

the man who was charged in her kidnapping case. matthew is also charged why an unrelated sexual assault case. police say the field is not far from where jesse matthew grew up. the property is going to be closed off till friday. virginia tech students held a vigil last night in blacksburg to show their support of the graham family as they continue to search for hannah. >> students also grieved over the murder of virginia tech student morgan harrington. her death sparked the beginning of an organization called help save the next girl. >> at least forensically, two hannah graham cases, morgan harrington. but also we many people here at tech who knew hannah graham. >> the goal is to raise awareness so there are no mar harrington or hannah -- no more morgan harrington or hannah graham cases. apple pay is adding up to some unexpected charges. wusa9 is back

mind before your open enrollment deadline passes by. according to the work force report, 67% of companies surveyed raised copays and premiums last year. more companies are expected to do so by the end of the year. a study meanwhile says companies are going to do more to encourage steps to improve your own health like wellness campaigns or company-sponsored health screenings. plus, employees should have more options to customize their health plan for their specific needs. if you're on social security, you could expect an extra $22 a month starting next year. the governor says oo government says those checks will go up 1.7% to account for the cost of living. the average retired worker is set to receive $16,000 a year. here we go again. another possible breach of credit card information is being investigated now by staples. the office supply chain says it's called in law enforcement. security experts believe they may be dealing with the same type of malicious software

recently used to hack into home dee toe, target and -- depot and target and dairy queen. apple pay is turning into double pay for some people. users are claiming they're being charged twice specifically by bank of america. in one case a customer was told apple couldn't help him because the company keeps no record of transactions for security purposes. the good news is bank of america issued a refund over that security purpose. a slippery slope we could be into. >> it would lead to a domino effect of overage charges. >> which is why we're not doing apple pay. >> no way, man. >> thanks, nick. 6:13. here's another look at the question of the morning. what is the number one reason people give for wanting to move to a new house? is it a, their house is too small, b, looking for better

i don't think we'll have much in the way of precip till maybe next wednesday, wednesday night. we have a nice dry stretch coming up. i know some folks want to get some outdoor work in before the real cold weather gets in. >> the weekend looking good? >> the weekend looking real good around here. today the problem is going to be the winds. blowing leaves around and off of the trees out there. we've got some decent color now north and west of d.c., especially as you get west of the blue ridge. in the mountains we're past peak in the highest elevations. wementer wise, we have the -- weather wise, we have this big storm that clobbered us yesterday, it's clobbering new england. even coastal delaware seeing a few light showers coming through. but it's pouring to beat the band and quite windy along the coast there in new england. notice all the rain going west through massachusetts through the berkshires, into new york state. that's the same storm that got us yesterday. today it will be driving the winds. that deep area of low pressure with high pressure building in. that pressure difference is what drives the winds. those winds at times will be sustained over 20 miles an hour over the northwest gusting

potential to 35 miles an hour. 60 by noon. more clouds around this morning. a little more sun this afternoon. clouds east of us, especially east of the bay may not break till tonight. we need them to break because we have a partial solar eclipse. if you want to see this, it starts in washington at 5:52. it maxes out at 6:17. we're fighting a couple of things. a, the clouds which hopefully will be gone by then in most areas. we're also fighting the sunset. sunset 16:17. if you -- is 6:17. if you want to see t i urge you to get out there. but don't look at it directly. make a box, a pin hole at one end and a white piece of paper. that's all you need. easy to make and much safer than looking at t. gusts 25 to 30 right now. we've seen gusts this morning in the 30 to 35 range. that will be the case through midday. temperatures right now low to mid-50s. look at the chill in the mountains. in the 30s there with davis at 34 and oakland in garrett

county at 37. great visibility but cloudy skies still in washington here at 6:00 a.m. 55 is the current temp with a northwesterly wind at 17, gusting to 25. there's a little bit after chill factor this morning thanks to the winds which will be going all day. thanks to low pressure. you can see it spinning back here. it's going to be a wet day in new england, especially eastern new england. the clouds will start to pull away later this afternoon. clearing out tonight. breezy tonight and friday. so the winds will not be as strong but still noticeable. as we head toward saturday, though, the winds start to pull away. saturday the nicer day of the weekend. we'll be in the upper 60s to near 70 in the afternoon. then a weak front saturday night. you see this band of clouds? that will be the separation from the northwesterly winds and slightly cooler air that will be here for sunday. but as far as the front doing much, it doesn't have a lot of moisture to work w. don't see -- work with. i don't think we'll see any showers with this. 64, windy, cool, more clouds east. expecting a little more sun this afternoon than this morning. tonight we'll be in the 40s.

tomorrow breezy, milder, 67. saturday we start in the 40s but we'll get to around 70 for the afternoon high. sunday 60 to 65. so cooler but monday 72. tuesday 78. and a front approaching late wednesday may trigger storms, still warm with temps in the mid-70s. it's 6:20. we need another update on timesaver traffic because we're slowing down out there. we're big time slowing baltimore area to make their way south on - standing crash happened southbound in the interchange of 175. on the bw parkway, maryland 295. as a result, the delays back near bwi thurgood marshall. sky 9 has been checking out the crash for us. southbound single file to the right getting past the accident. we're told a single vehicle was involved but off the road. obviously there were injuries and they're trying to retrieve both the passenger and the vehicle itself. southbound on 295, look at that. 95 is the way to go although heavier volume. lanes open to the cat beltway.

have you seen the news about barbara comstock? first, the washington post reported, barbara comstock failed to report eighty-five thousand in income. now, we learn, barbara comstock pushed a client's issues in the virginia legislature and didn't disclose it. barbara comstock shepherded a trio of bills through the legislature and into law but barbara comstock never officially disclosed that all the while she was being paid thousands of dollars. no wonder she hid it.

you have a good morning. three teenage girls recruited to join isis are now back in colorado. an administrator of their school said they were victims of an online predator who encouraged them. >> u.s. officials are trying to determine how the 15, 16, and 18-year-old girls made it to europe without anyone knowing. the teens were sent home after being detained at an airport in frankfurt, germany. new questions are being raised about the police shooting of an unarmed teenager in ferguson, missouri. an official autopsy now suggests michael brown might not have had his hands raised when he was killed by officer darren wilson. that's according to a st. louis post dispatch. >> it indicates brown was shot at close range and might have been reaching for wilson's weapon. >> a grand jury has until

january 7 to decide if officer wilson should be indicted in the case. >> wilson has reportedly testified to the grand jury that brown punched him and grabbed for his gun. wilson also claims that at one point brown charged him and that is when he fired. the world health organize daition is -- organization is planning a round of ebola trials. >> initial safety trials have already started here in the united states and in parts of europe. if the trials are successful, some predict the ebola outbreak can eventually be contained. amber vinson now free of the ebola virus. she was of the two texas health presbyterian hospital nurses to contract ebola while she was treating thomas duncan. she's being treated at emory university hospital. the other nurse nina pham is in good condition here in town at n.i.h. it is 6:34. wusa9 and d.c. jobs want to help you get hired.

with the heavy rains. it's getting new england with the heavy rain this morning. that rain will probably linger in spot till tomorrow morning. if you're traveling up to boston, new york, albany, long island, definitely going to be hampered by this system. today the winds. that will be the issue the clouds giving way to sun more this afternoon. lower to mid-60s for highs. winds gusting to 25, 30. we'll be 45 to 50 tomorrow. partial solar eclipse late afternoon. it starts at 5:52. it peaks 25 minutes later at 6:17 but sunset is 6:19. so if you're going to go out and watch t don't look directly at t. even sunglasses aren't good enough. you need special glasses but better yet, if you take a little box, put a pin hole on one end and the other a piece of paper, you'll see the projection on the paper.

safest way to watch it. winds gusting to near 30 at patuxent river naval air staying. 25 or so martinsburg, hagerstown and d.c. i think they'll only get a little stronger as we head toward the morning and mid afternoon. low to mid-50s to start your day but with the wind it feels even colder than that there's that washington or the capitol dome again with the scaffolding around it. they go orange. i swear is looks like a pumpkin. 55 currently, cloudy with a northwesterly wind at 17, gusts 25. the winds up all day. clouds midday still hanging tough d.c. east, but west better chances we'll see sun there and some of the sun building as we get into the afternoon hours. hopefully clearing enough to see the partial eclipse for those who want to check it out. clearing out tonight and on friday looks good. as we head in toward saturday and sunday, we're going to keep that trend rolling. in fact, next week looks even warmer. so windy thursday. cool, more clouds east, more sun west. 64 in washington.

tonight we're dropping into the 40s. upper 40s in town, low to mid- 40s in the burbs. tomorrow 67. a northwesterly wind 10 to 15, gusting 20, 25. not as windy as tomorrow, still breezy, 67. 70 a saturday. saturday will be a beautiful day. sunday will be nice, just a little bit cooler. weak front saturday night will knock us down to 65 on sunday. look at the warmth returning monday and especially tuesday, upper 70s tuesday. wednesday still mid-70s and by then a front will approach late in the day. so can't rule out a shower or storm late wednesday afternoon. it's 6:50. time to check in with beverly farmer once again. bev, tell us something good for a change. >> reporter: how about the bw parkway is open. that's some good news but everywhere else we've had one problem after another this morning. southbound lanes of 270, coming down out of rockville between montrose road and the lane divide, choose the main line or 270 spur. crash has been along the right side. therefore the delays local lanes. as you merge on to the outer loop of the beltway from the 270 spur to head toward river

road and the legion bridge, another crash. initially that was smack dab in the middle of the roadway. coming off the 270 spur on the outer loop toward river road, experiencing delays there. southbound as you get past the exit for or toward river road. now, also in maryland, we've had the problem with the bw parkway, crash southbound 295 at 175. lanes are open there but the lineups from bwi, thurgood marshall, 95 in maryland struggle, too a lot of the bailout traffic. here we are at the outer loop of the beltway in greenbelt. not good. delays out of landover to the crash between the exit for the bw parkway and kenilworth. that has been blocking the left side of the roadway. left side of the roadway has been blocked there because of that crash. then there's a crash on the outer loop near colesville road. 66, you've had struggles not just manassas and centerville but there's a crash between 123 and nutley street. that tied up the right side of the roadway and that's why you're so slow coming in through vienna now. that's a look at the dive. back to

virginia governor terry mcauliffe is still paying off campaign debt from his gubernatorial campaign. his campaign reported having $375,000 in debt in june. >> mcauliffe has transferred some money from his political action committee to help pay that debt. his campaign also took in a $12,500 donation from the professional golfers association of america. >> mike has done this one.
