bridge they are youred about the future of their business. nate, what do you got for us nate. bill, folks who live in queens for the most part have every resource they need within a two-block stretch. now, at least, a dozen shops atop of the bridge along the boulevard in cue guard dns right underneath and the 90-year-old bridge is in desperate need of repair. look at the hole right here. business owners say their buildings are also neglected. >> electrical plum, the roof, the roof has been a may josh shoe for a long, long, long time. meaning water pouring in when we have, you know, torrential rain, take a look at the bathroom inside of the pharmacy and it is currently out of order after pipes have bursts at least three times year. in a digs, poor installation. >> well, the pipe, we get so much water in there. then, you know, you can use the path room. the property is owned by the mta and managed by

happened to be relocated because theyed into food, water or power. many of those faminglies ended up here in our area. but one of the things that was slightly under reported was the pets who were left behind. so many families had to leave their dogs, cats behind as they fled for safety. a spot of god new, one of the heros of the reu night of the pets with families. her name is heather and she is executive director of madison. heather, welcome to "chasing news." how are you? >> great. good to be with you. bill: so sounds like a mir dole me. you went down. you set up this rescue effort to find these pets that were left behind in puerto rico. and miraculously, reunited many of them with their families. how did you got the idea to do it? the logistics. how did this come together? >> well, bill, in the immediate aftermath of maria, our organization welcomed animals that were already in shelters before the storm.

and that was 786 animals in eight days. well, our hope always there indies asker responses to relief opportunity in the community to respond to people and their pets. and you know, the situation down there is tough. 20% of the islands still doesn't have power. the island working with as well doesn't have power and running off generators. so in december, a foun approached someone who approached us and saying they don't normal initiatives and we want to hp the people. this is a terrible story and people who didugh they need medical care. medical carvish issue on would were not leaving this they could take the pet or causing them a lot of stress. so we stepped wanted to continue our commitment to puerto rico and the storm's and our goal is to help

reunite 1,000 pet people. >> wow. this past weekend, it was my first time down there was group on the ground down there who is doing so mth family, friends, neighbors. bill: how did youfamilies, heat? >> did the animals have chips? how would you know? >> well, they fade they had dom the mainland already. they left the animals to friends, family or neighbors who are doing the work on the ground with the group called el faro which is incredible and helping them get any necessary vaccine, microchipping to your point to make sure the animals are being or able to be connected to the people forever more. bill: anything that our viewers can do to help out? >> they can go though website and learn how to get involved. we have photos, video, and ways to get involved. bill: how close to you the 1,000, your zeil we're only about 200.
