>> in is fox 29 fuse at 6:00. hope you have your umbrella handy. if you're headed out tonight because of the rain is here and it is not going anywhere for awhile. >> taking a live look at ultimate doppler radar, you can see the huge bands of wet weather, stretching all the way down to the gulf coast. a rainy saturday is where we begin tonight at 6:00. thanks for joining us everybody, i'm joyce evans. >> i'm dawn timoney. many parts of the region under flashflood watch right now. let's get right over to meteorologist monica cryan with the details. >> reporter: that rain moved in as we headed through the afternoon, first started off light, now really starting to see it become much more heavy in nature. it is pretty widespread throughout the entire region, except for parts of lancaster,

berks county, seeing much lighter rain activity, but where we have some of the heaviest rain, actually in south jersey. through atlantic county, burlington county, from pemberton all the way down where we have the yellow that,- indicates more moderate rainfall. that's going to be causing a lot of problems on those roadways. make sure you drive slower today. as we head through the evening time, i'll time it out for you, as you can see, by midnight actually expecting the rain to increase, it will become even heavier. it really moves in from the south bringing in a lot of moisture. this is what we're waking up to early tomorrow morning. look at the band of heavy rain. all the way from new york through trenton, philadelphia, wilmington, back into baltimore. and this is going to continue as we head throughout the entire day of our sunday. for that reason, we have a flood watch. if you know those flood prone areas, you know you're located near that, be aware potential for some flooding.

>> this rain will be heavy and it is going to continue all the way into tomorrow evening. and we're expecting two, 3 inches with localized even heavier apartments, no worries, guys, a drier work week ahead. i'll have your forecast coming up in just a bit. >> all right, like the sounds of that, thanks, monica. now to developing story out of philadelphia. a man is in the hospital after being shot by a corrections officer just moments after he was released from prison. police say it happened as the former inmate tried to carjack the officer who just had gotten off his shift. jennifer joyce with the details. >> philadelphia police converged on the grounds of curran-fromhold prison in holmesburg after 11:00 friday night. investigators say an off-duty corrections officer shot adjust released inmate in the prison parking lot after the suspect wrestled with the officer and tried to steel his car. >> starting his life of crime over again within minutes of being released. >> police say 26 year old jamal bennett boldly committed the crime before even stepping

off of prison grounds a free man. the veteran officer, 66 year old michael maritea just finished his shift pulled out private gun and shot bennett in the chest. police transported the suspect to aria-torresdale hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. >> you tag a law enforcement officer you'll get you what asked for and that's what happened. >> the president of local 159 which represents corrections officer said he visited the officer last night as he recovered from minor injuries. >> he is in good spirits. he got bumps, bruises, but he's okay. >> the officer was released from the hospital overnight. north says while it is fortunate that his injuries weren't more serious, these attacks on corrections employees happen too often at the prison, and after release. he says procedural changes must be made. >> for years i been asking the past commissioner, and the present commissioner about this parking lot.

we share this parking lot with the families of the inmates, and the visitors. the visitors and the families of the inmates should be park on state road. what i'll do, i'll ask to meet with the commissioner and maybe we can have extra patrols out here during that time during shift change, because it happened during shift change. >> in northeast philadelphia, jennifer joyce, "fox 29 news." prison officials say the suspect jamal bennett has been lock up seven times since 2011. the most recent incarceration for probation violation related to weapons charges. a father is charged in the death of his four month old son. hamilton township police say back on january 29th they found the four month old unresponsive inside his home. in the care of his father, jose rojas here. the baby died at chop a week later. investigators say the father claims the baby rolled off the bed, but doctors say that the injuries show severe trauma. rojas faces charges of first

degree aggravated manslaughter and a list of other serious charges. a man is behind bars after police say he tried to burn down a south jersey police station. happened back on december 12th y township police department. police say sean shearer here tried to walk into the station with a petroleum inside a bottle, a bottles with petroleum, glass bottle at that. he tried to light the bottle. he threw it at the front doors where the officers and another person were standing. then he took off. luckily, the bottle did not light up. shearer is facing two counts of attempted aggravated arson and criminal mischief. penn state's head football train here was inside the beta theta pi fraternity house the night pledges timothe piazza was fatally injured is stepping down. tim bream, fraternity alum, was the chapter's live-in advisor at the time. he testified he went to his room after watching a pledge

bid acceptance ceremony then left for work the next morning without noticing piazza. the 19 year old pledge fell several times during a party in overnight. authorities say he had a fractured skull and a damaged spleen and consumed a dangerous amount of alcohol. piazza died at the hospital, more than two dozen fraternity members have been charge in the relation to his death. penn state says brean will leave his job at the end of the month. more and more incredible video coming out from the eagles championship parade, like video like this. take a look at it. super bowl memorabilia tattoos. and of course some parade inspired tattoos. i don't want to give it away just yet. i want the guy who was getting jason kelce on his arm to describe it to you. but first, i want to tell you, we did talk to some of the tatoo artists inside. they say they were getting orders even before the super bowl was over. and of course, once the win happened, and even after the parade, all of the orders just surged. it just so happened the tatoo convention coincided with all of that. so now, let's hear from a tatoo artist himself who pass been spending yesterday and all of today doing these eagles tattoos, of course we will hear from that jason kelce number one fan, let's listen. >> the ends of the parade night my in box was just catching on fire from everybody like dude, we need that eagles tatoo now, you know, finally got everybody to go for it, you know? and it is just like unreal. so i'm book for next the three months, 90% eagle tats.

story out of ohio. that's where police say two officers were fatally shot at a home in columbus. it was the suburb wister ville police say in a statement that the shootings happened this morning around 130 after officers responded to a 911 hang-up calm. the officer were shot after they arrived at a residence. police say a suspect is in custody but provided no other details. the spirit of the olympics may be helping to be thawing relations between north and south korea but vice president mike pence says not so fast. whether it comes to nuclear power, fox's greg palcot in seoul south korea with the latest. >> vice president and pyeongchang with the opening of the winter old pill ex, sitting feet away from the sister of north korea leader kim jong un. neither spoke. but earlier in the day pence had this to say about the nuclear power. >> simple truth is that the time has come for north korea to permanently abandon its

really be socked with rain, that's for that reason, we've got a flood watch that extends all the way back into georgia and alabama, all the way back up into new jersey, the new york area, so philadelphia is include in the that trenton, wilmington, millville all the way into atlantic city and up into allentown, doesn't include lancaster, and some of the poconos, and the reason for that is they're expecting less rain. we're going to see this set up through part of delaware, south jersey, all the way up into new york certainly g heaviest rain, will arrive as we head through tonight. so tonight expecting the rain to continue, some of the heaviest down toward south jersey then waking up tomorrow. we could hear rumble every thunder through tomorrow morning, and into the afternoon. look at this. just streaming in more and more rain all the way into the afternoon. this is out of here by the evening. cloud cover sticks around, could be foggy once again as we head through tomorrow night as well. rainfall totals, yes, coming in high. you could see anywhere from two, 3 inches, about some of the heaviest rain again, right
