we are following may breaking news overseas right now. two u.s. war ships have fired at least 60 tomahawk missiles into government controlled air base in syria. the target was the air base in central syria. missiles were fire at the base's air strips hangars and control tower. this is all in response to that chemical weapons attack that the u.s. blames on syrian president as sad. u.s. officials say syrian government aircraft dropped a nerve agent earlier this week that killed dozens. president donald trump delivered this statement from his resort in florida within the hour. >> my fellow americans, on tuesday, syrian dictator bra scharr al-assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians using a

deadly nerve agent. aside choked out the lives of helpless men, women and childr children. it was a slow and brutal death for so many. even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in many very barbaric attack. no child of god should ever suffer such horror. tonight i ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in syria from where the chemical attack was launched. it is in this vital national security interest of the united states to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.

there can be no dispute that syria used chemical weapons, violated it's obligations under the chemical weapons convention and ignored the urging of the un security council. years of previous attempts at changing as sad's behavior have all failed and filed very dramatically. as a result, the refugee crisis continues to deepen, and the region continues to destabilize threatening the united states and its allies. tonight i call all civil advised nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in syria. and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types.

had both rex tillerson and secretary of state nicky haley united states saying removininga sad was not a priority n a sense as sad attacked. >> attack very close to something like bill clinton single missile attack targeted facility message to the as sad regime and the implied message we'll come after you. >> michael, harsh words tonight from secretary of state rex tillerson about russia pretty much dropping the ball keeping chemical weapons out of syria. so what does that mean for u.s u.s./russian relations? >> well, part of what's going on here i think the trump administration trying to signal a tougher line towards russia it's interesting that about the actual strike that they contac contacted and warped russia in advance the idea deacon flick the air space one of the great concerns if us military strike killed russian personnel there's a real risk of case laying. so on one level they're trying to look tough against russia. on the another level they're trying to make sure that they

don't make find themselves in situation with an accident orcas lates laying they don't want that creates a greater international crisis with russia because the stakes there are so much higher. >> all right. michael boyle. also, you know we talk about president trump was talking about a line in the sand. what do you think this means for his presidency? this is pretty big step for him this early on. >> it is. it's signaling events towards something very similar to what clinton d very similar to what obama threatened to do to use -- limited military force to change the balance on the ground. interesting question will be where he goes from this. if you warn the as sad regime and you warned russia the strike was going to happen that implies you won't escalate. so the question at the moment is this the step toward a greater escalation with ground troops or further strikes in syria or is this a one off attack in which case it's not similar to what his predecessors did. we're starting to see new much more internationally trump very different than the trump we saw

doesn't happen again. the morning of april 15th, 2012, was the last time mike saw his 18-year-old daughter nikki alive. >> that was the worst day of my life. >> reporter: nikki was weeks away from graduating washington township high school. the accomplished honor student had that very day gotten a scholarship to rider college. she had her whole life ahead of her. >> she came across the road at about 20 miles an hour and a truck just like that hit right there, boom. smack. >> reporter: nikki was in the back seat this saturn driven by a classmate. her family believes that driver was using her phone prior to the crash. nikki was killed. the driver eventually plead guilty to a failure to stop violation. but just hours after nik can i's death her legacy began. her father started people against distracted driving in his daughter's name. since her death hundreds of these signs have been put up on highs way cross the country. >> i think she knows i'm doing

residential area. because we have a lot of small homes. >> reporter: west conshohocken's mayor calls this scene fortunate. whatever it was that tour through tour through an industrial are not a reasonable one. it ripped the roof off the technology manufacturing plant sending massive pieces of thick foam over cars in the parking lot. a good bit of damage but not a single injury. a company security guard witnessed it. >> she said it was great big gray cloud come right down and she says she notice what tornadoes look like it come right down and right into the building and just hit and lift it right off and, you know, went that way. >> reporter: by early evening a volunteer witness national weather service was on sight in an unofficial capacity at first glance he says the debris doesn't seem to be consistent with the path of tornado >> testing. >> ment. >> testing. >> testing. >> testing. >> testing. assessing the damage
