to check its safety and the safety of its travelers. >> here's the situation. i need everybody to sit down. everybody sit down. okay. it's going to look worse than it is. >> u.s. airways flight attendant trying to calm the passengers on flight 845 from philadelphia to the dominican republic after a joke by an american passenger caused panic. the unidentified passenger was reportedly coughing during the flight and yelled out i've been to africa just before the plane landed. once the plane was on the ground, precautions were taken to make sure passengers were safe. so emergency responders in blue hazmat suits boarded the plane to locate the passenger. >> owe, my god! >> this lady in a white jacket covers her mouth as the emergency worker stopped in front of her, she like many other passengers are recording video on their phones. we're not going to show the man but he was eventually taken off the plane several people booed him. >> boo! >> the plane was held on the tarmac for nearly two hours

until officials determined there was no risk to the 200 plus passengers. u.s. airways issued a statement which reads in part "we are following the direction of and strictly adhering to all cdc guidelines in place for airlines in response to the ebola virus. the flight was checked by officials and cleared. we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but the safety of our customers and employees is our first priority ". >> that man was detained at a medical facility and he may have to be checked again for the disease when he returns. >> that scare came as the american military effort against ebola intensifies tonight in west africa. six planes brought equipment and hundred more marines to liberia today. 4,000 people in west africa have already died after contracting the disease. it is the worst ebola outbreak on record. u.s. officials say thousands of other troops are on stand by and could be sent in more help is need. while here in the united states, a special summit in washington,

d.c., addressing rising financial concerns to fight the outbreak. >> the two year regional financial impact could reach u.s. $32.6 billion by the end of 2015, that would be catastroph catastrophic. >> leaders from the three countries hardest hit are in the united states asking for money. medical professionals and hospital equipment to be sent immediately. a small plain crashes tonight at the south jersey regional airport in lumberton, burlington county. skyfox over that scene. the aircraft apparently overshot the runway. the pilot is being evaluated. no word on a cause of that accident. guilty of first degree murder. that is the verdict for ragu -- he was on trial for killing a baby and her grandmother in king of prussia two years ago. fox 29's sabina kuriakose at the courthouse in norristown where his mother pleaded for her son's live tonight. sabina. >> reporter: dawn, certainly an emotional plea as the trial enters the penalty phase. jurors will now have to decide

whether to put the man to death. the still grieving father of 10 month old baby quietly leaves court minutes after a jury finds 27 year old man guilty of kidnapping and murdering the baby. and stabbing her grandmother to death as she tried in vain to protect the infant. >> it's been a long struggle for them, two years, since his mother and 10 month old were killed. >> reporter: inside court he showed no emotion as guilty verdict for first degree murder, kidnapping, burglary and robbery were read. he represented himself in court and claimed two men forced him to take them to the king of prussia apartment. before they committed the murders in october of 2012. prosecutors maintain he was a family friend who planned to hold the baby for ransom before suffocating her. >> he's not an evil person. he's a person who made a terrible mistake. >> his defense team who assisted

him during the trail trying to paint him as a troubled hemly ill unstable man who lost his police officer father to a terrorist attack in india when he was a child and later attempted to commit suicide. >> he indicated remorse to the family and i think he shows remorse in his own unique way report roar the trial moving quickly into the penalty phase so his mother seen here in green sarey could take the stand before she returns to india friday. she plead with jurors through an interpreter to spare her son the death penalty saying please save my son. the prosecutors with the blessing of the family insist brutality of the murders can only be answered with death. >> the defendant has his mother to beg for his life, but that same opportunity was not given by the defendant for the baby and the grandmother. >> jurors will return to the courtroom tomorrow morning to decide whether to put him to death or to give him live in prison.

iain? sabina, thank you. >> wilmington man charged in a road rage incident in which police say that he fired a gun at a man and his six year old passenger. 28 year old augustine flores perez facing reckless endangerment and weapons charges. police say he exchanged words with the victim after stopping his car in the middle of the road. he allegedly pointed a handgun out of the window and fired one shot in the direction of the other driver. to a developing story now the search for a vicious attacker. a brutal fight at upper darby bar was captured on surveillance video. but it is so disturbing we're not showing you all of the recording. a man was stabbed in the neck and the attacker is still on the loose at this hour. fox 29's dave schratwieser has the story. >> now you're dealing with a bad guy with a knife. >> reporter: this was the scene caught on top inside the la cantina bar in upper darby went night when a man pulled out a knife, stabbed a bar patron in the neck and escaped. >> to cut somebody's neck for no apparent reason and to flee,

we're concerned. he's got a knife, and we want to get him off the streets. >> reporter: police rushed to the scene just after midnight and quickly attended to the victim wilson, lost a lot of blood. superintendent chitwood credited police officer michael crispin for his quick actions to apply pressure to the wound. >> as a result of his actions, he certainly saved his life up to this point in time. >> it's not good for business. it's not good for us. >> reporter: police say this bar has been a problem in the past but recently changed hands. while chitwood says things have improved incidents like this hurt business along this busy corridor near the 69th street bus and rail terminal. >> now you're looking at a potential homicide. in a bar that police are called to all the time. so we have some major concerns. >> so now it's on our radar screen. >> we need our clients and we're trying to build up our salon and we want our people. we don't want our people to be afraid any more. >> reporter: detectives identified the suspect as 23

year old miguel eskalan police raided his home thursday morning. he wasn't there. the sun says he is an illegal immigrant from honduras making attempts to find him even more difficult. >> he has no record under the name we have. now, whether he's a convicted murder are in honduras i couldn't tell you. >> reporter: dave schratwieser, fox 29 news. >> a terrible crash on the new jersey turnpike sends three children to the hospital. police say they were not wearing seat belts. their family was traveling south on the turnpike when a front tire malfunctioned. the driver lost control and crashed into a wooded area on the side of the road. one child was thrown from the car when it flipped and hit a tree. two others were also hurt. police say none of the young children were wearing seat belts. they were rushed to cooper trauma center with serious injuries but they are expected to be okay. the parents were not seriously hurt. >> a warning to residents in the tri-state area. police say there's a group of burglars targeting the elderly now here's a look at one of the

thieves who struck in darby yesterday. police say he talked his way into an elderly woman's home posing as a utility worker. when a neighbor came to check on that woman the man took off. police in collingdale just arrested three men who pulled a similar scam earlier this month. investigators were able to catch those three suspects and when they searched their car they realized there were a lot of other victims. >> jewelry, cash, brochures from fake companies, utility companies, sterilization companies for disease and germs in your house, lists and lists and lists of addresses, we believe this trio we're looking for is involved with the same actors in darby somehow linked together. >> police believe the burglars targeted people as far north as massachusetts and as far south as florida but right now investigators want neighbors on alert that they are in our are a. >> it's shaping up to be a rainy and chilly friday. chief meteorologist scott

williams here with a look what should be on your radar tonight. scott. >> right now, of course, iain, we are dry and quiet, but take a look at the storm system off to the west. thicker clouds as well as showers even some thunderstorms this activity is headed in our direction. not tomorrow morning. primarily as we move toward the afternoon. war watching that rainfall pockets of drizzle and showers. it will make for a dreary friday afternoon and especially evening. look at the clock by 4:00 p.m. war looking at the rainfall across the area. by sick tomorrow night for your dinner plans checking out that new movie, socked in with the rainfall and chilly conditions as well. by friday night, we're still looking at that rainfall, saturday morning pockets of drizzle as well as clouds and showers. so the bottom line, clouds increase tonight. we stay dry. lows around 50 but tomorrow cloudy, damp and chilly. most of the rainfall arrives during the afternoon. we'll have much more on this system as well as what it means for the upcoming weekend and we have the forecast for temple homecoming as well as the eagles

>> philadelphia police want to catch two bike bandits. police say they broke into the garage at rittenhouse claridge twice last weekend. surveillance video showing them snatching a few of the bikes that were locked up and now police want to put them behind bars. fox 29's chris o'connell is live in center city with more on this. chris, a lot of people are very unhappy about this. >> reporter: when it comes to crime in the city, dawn, bike thefts really don't rank on top of the list, but if this happens to you, it is a big deal. you've probably seen this. a bike left on a street post stripped down to the frame, the chain, the brakes, the wheels gone, the bike might even be gone but this is happening all too frequently. locked up or not, bikes are flying off racks all over the city. josh silverman works hard making a living in his old city principal shop. like most small business owners, every dollar counts.

>> walked up to the bike, flipped it. >> reporter: that's why watching video of this crook riding down filbert street with his $1,500 electric bike really grinds his gears. >> feel violated. that's your bike. it doesn't matter if it costs 20 bucks or a thousand dollars. that's what you use to get around. >> reporter: he's not the only one. take look at these guys. police say the two men went on their own shopping spree for high-end bicycles from a storage room inside a rittenhouse square apartment building. video shows them getting away with two bikes but they were not done. the greedy guys came back for two more the following night. kristin smith who rides her bike every day to work was also a victim. >> it stinks. it's embarrassing. you come out of where you're going and your front wheel is gone and it just stinks and they're really expensive. >> reporter: there's no doubt philly is a bike town. it may be the reason why the city ranks near the top of bike thefts nationwide. according to police, there have

been more than 2100 stolen bikes in the city last year. and those are just the reported cases. facebook even has a page devoted to stolen bikes in philly. it seems like every biker has a story. >> a bike got stolen out of my backyard a week before my birthday the end of august. >> i lock it up pretty well. some people use bad locks and leave it overnight. >> reporter: expert bikers know tough locks a watchful eye and well lit areas are the best tips for keeping bikes safe. but people like josh silverman know even the best locks on the busiest streets sometimes are no match for bike thieves looking to steal your wheels. now, if you live in the city of philadelphia, you can register your bike with a local police precinct. if it is stolen and it is recovered, you just might be able to get it back. but only if it's recovered. iain? >> all right, chris, thank you. a man dressed in muslim

style garb robs a bank in audubon and police say this is not the first time. the man walked into beneficial bank yesterday on south white horse pike in audubon, and he handed the teller a note deman demanding cash, then took off with the money. two other robberies at susquehanna bank in camden and audubon savings bank with a man dressed in a black burka have police thinking it's the same guy. if you've got any information, please call the camden county prosecutor's office. >> horrible hazing incident leaves an autistic teen duck taped to soccer goal and it happened in pennsylvania. 16 year old austin, says after he was duck taped at highland high school sunday night he was left there for 15 minutes while his teammates went to haze another student. off duty pennsylvania state trooper found the allegheny county teen and him him down. austin and his mom are understandably upset. >> they taped my hands, legs, all the way up to my waist, all around the whole pole and tighten it as hard as they can,

and then they attempted to try to take a picture of it. >> i feel the coach new. he wasn't there but he -- he knew that it was happening. he knows that it's been going on. so he's the adult. >> the school district suspended the coach and two of the players for at least five days. meantime, police are investiga investigating the hazing incident. meantime, horrifying new details tonight about the hazing scandal that rocked a new jersey high school. >> that scandal may be even worse than first thought. fox's liz dall a.m. reports. >> reporter: days after the sayreville high school football season was canceled, because of hazing allegations, a new bombshell. a parent of a player came forward and says senior players have been sexually abusing and sodomizing freshmen inside the locker room. classmates are in shock. >> it's hard to believe that those allegations are true, that kind of stuff going on in the locker room? >> i don't have anything to say really.

>> they have won three state section sal championships in the past four years. on monday the superintendent announced the rest of the season would be canceled after the middlesex county prosecutor's office provided evidence to support the bullying allegatio allegations. stewart green director of the new jersey coalition for bullying awareness and prevention praises the superintendent for canceling the season, and says the culture of the team needs to be investigated. >> bullying and hazing are problems caused in kids by adults. it is adults who run the schools hooks run the teams, who are response al for this atmosphere. >> reporter: the scandal is also getting the attention of governor christie who says the attorney general is also investigating. >> as the father of a number of teenage athletes, the idea that that kind of conduct could be permitted if it's true, that kind of conduct could be permitted in a high school athletic program or anywhere

their son shane was diagnosed with a rare birth defect that would mean he would not live very long after birth. so while the couple while they were still pregnant parents jenna and dan they took shane on a tour of some of their favorite places including spots right here in philadelphia. facebook pictures from the bucket list of their tour they went viral. >> shane was born this morning and we're sad to report that he died a few hours later but the impact he and his family had is only growing. we want to send our best wishes and deepest prayers to the haleys. we'll be right back.

>> more trouble for police in missouri. a mob of protesters surrounding and vandalize police vehicles in st. louis last night after an off duty officer fatally shot a teenager. police say the teen shot at the officer before he returned fire. >> the suspect pointed the gun at the officer and fired at least three rounds at the police officer. we believe this to be true because there are three projectiles that we recovered with trajectories going towards the officer down the hill and one piece of ballistic evidence located behind the officer. >> police say the suspect's gun was recovered at the scene. a new york city police officer is caught on camera allegedly stealing money from man during a stop and frisk. the incident was captured on a cell phone. the footage supposedly showing

an unidentified officer taking more than a thousand dollars from a construction worker and pushing him against a fence of basketball courts. the brooklyn da is investigati investigating. >> investigators are exhuming a grave in hopes of so long a decades old crime. >> looking for evidence the man burned there is actually a masked murderer and wanted fugitive. fbi confirms it is trying to determine if the remains are those of william bradford bish bishop. bishop is accused of 1976 sledgehammer murders of his wife, mother and three children in maryland. the unidentified man in the grave was killed by a car on highway back in 1981. authorities think bishop may have spent his years on the run hitchhiking to alabama. he is on the fbi's 10 most wanted list. >> a break tonight in a cold case thanks to this surveillance video. investigators say you're looking at two men who are about to commit a murder. the message the victim's family wants you to hear tonight. >> plus a really costly crash. a vintage plane ends up on its

>> on board a u.s. airways plane causes chaos in the sky. he yelled out i've been to africa. he may have meant it as joke but it was taken seriously much the video of health officials in full gear boarding the plane after it landed is going viral. officials say the man was detained at the airport's medical facility and he's being sent back to the u.s. he may have have to be tester again for ebola. 290 people were on board that plane. >> while the ebola crisis is on everyone's minds as it's gone global, top experts on infectious diseases are gathering inn in center city philadelphia to talk about the crisis and enterovirus d68

outbreaks. they're meeting at the philadelphia convention center until sunday. experts say the two emerging infections are challenging health care systems across the country especially since there are no vaccines or cures for either infection. while experts say they have no fear of ebola spreading in the u.s., they don't believe it's going to go away any time soon. and they're urging parents to take action to protect against the enterovirus d68. >> physical your child has ever wheezed in the past you need to get with your primary care physician to have an asthma action plan that is clear to everyone and that can be activated if this child develops any type of respiratory symptomatology. >> officials believe the enterovirus d68 could ultimately affect more people and cause more deaths here in the us than ebola. so far 45 states have confirmed cases. you can keep track of the latest developments on ebola outbreak or see dr. oz's advice how to

protect against it by going to our website. >> philadelphia police want to you take good look at surveillance video. investigators believe it shows two killers in november 2013 murder. it happened in the city's kingsessing neighborhood. and it remains unsolved 11 months later. the killing was nearly 250 in the city last year. but to the victim's grieving sister, it's more than a crime statistic. bruce gordon has her story of frustration and fear. >> reporter: police say this surveillance video shows james brocking ton's killers walking down the 5400 block of christian street just moments before they took his life. brocking ton's sister says the video dredge up far too much pain. >> i can't watch it at this point. >> reporter: monique has asked that we not show her face. >> it's a year later and they're still free, so, yes, it has me nervous. i don't know these people, and i don't want anyone to be able to recognize me. >> reporter: the suspects a husky black man with full beard and braided hair and his accomplice a thin black man in a

dark hoodie and tan shoes approached brocking ton right in front of his home on christian accompanied boy a third man so-called person of interest. police say there was a brief conversation and then one of the two men pulled out a 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun and fired eight shots into brocking ton. he died at the hospital. >> they knew the victim and knew them. >> reporter: homicide lieutenant williams says the individual should help track down the killers. >> i think anybody that knows these individuals can identify them. the individual is good. james brocking ton was the oldest of 11 children and was himself the father of a teenaged daughter. monique spoke of his sense of humor and of the void created by his murder. >> it's been tough and especia especially now that it's coming up a year and then with this new surveillance like it just rehashed all those emotions from everyone. >> reporter: that individual gives brocking ton's sister fresh hope this killers will be identified prosecuted and jailed. >> now we're just hoping that someone will do the right thing.

they don't deserve to walk around the streets a free man. >> reporter: the city is offering $20,000 reward for information that crack this case. go to myfoxphilly.com. we will link to you that surveillance video that just might help ease a family's frustration and calm their fear. in the newsroom, bruce gordon fox 29 news. >> let's check on your fox 29 weather authority now. here's chief meteorologist scott williams. >> hi there iain a lot of changes as we move no friday as well as the upcoming weekend. the high temperature in today in philadelphia 70 degrees. tomorrow we might stay in the 5050s. hard pressed to make it to 60 for the high tomorrow. as we look at the numbers right now, 59 philadelphia. upper 50's in allentown. the same right now as we move toward wilmington upper 50s. 60 degrees currently in dover. but we are dry but take a look off to the west. we're watching a boundary, also, areas of low pressure rotating along that boundary. that will bring thicker clouds as well as showers our way primarily tomorrow afternoon as well as tomorrow evening.

so just keep that in mine. tracking our next system, we'll watch those disturbances move out of the midwest toward the ohio river valley then eventually by tomorrow afternoon some of the heavier rainfall starts to arrive. so by lunch time, we're looking at mostly cloudy skies. there could be some drizzle. but look at the clock. by 4:00 p.m. we're looking at a lot of green showing up across the area. that's going to be some light rain. some heff your rainfall down the shore but look at the timing. for that friday evening commute, it's going to be damp and dreary as well as chilly and as we move toward 10:00 o'clock on your friday we're still socked in with the clouds as well as showers. what about the important weekend? well, we'll start off with some clouds, showers, drizzle. it will be dreary, but some good news it looks like we'll start to see drying conditions as we move beyond lunch time. here's 12:00 o'clock. big temple homecoming game. cloud cover around there. could be an early shower chance but most of the rain it's going to be pushing out of here and we're drying out as we move into

the second half of the weekend. sunday starts off dry. but sunday night there could be another return of some showers. so the bottom line, cloudy and chilly for tonight. lows around 50 degrees. moving ahead to tomorrow, cloudy, damp and chilly. most of the rainfall arrives after lunch time tomorrow. it lingers through the first part of the day on saturday a half an inch to an inch of rainfall before all is said and done. so that kickoff forecast for tulsa taking on the temple owls, we're looking at temperatures right around 59 degrees. there could be an early shower chance, but it's going to be cool and that rain will be moving out. for us, 50 in the city. mid 40s in the suburbs. tomorrow look at the high temperature. 60 degrees. that's it. the high today was 70. so about 10 degrees cooler. well below average and most of the showers once again not arriving until tomorrow afternoon and also tomorrow evening. 63 degrees for the high on saturday. sunday we'll call it cloudy and cool. there could be a disturbance that moves in late sunday night into monday bringing more

showers temperatures moderate back into the 70s by tuesday. wednesday of next week, could get a little interesting with a storm system that could bring some showers, gusty thunderstorms our way. we'll have the details on that coming up. and here's the errly call for the eagles game sunday against the giants. cloudy, cool, there could be an isolated shower chance but temperatures by kickoff around 60 degrees.
