tv   Good Day Philadelphia at 9  FOX  August 27, 2014 9:00am-10:01am EDT

9:00 am
know i love mo'ne, the team member that's getting all of the attention, i go wait a minute, these are all of our local kids. we should know them better. all of the other people on the team. right? >> all of the other kids part of it. >> so they'll tell us what position they play, their name, where they live, what school they go to. such unique team they're from all over the area. >> i know, and all good. but mo'ne really is taking a lion share of the attention so far. >> yes. >> nice to talk to these guys. >> so they are practicing their waves from the top of the bus for the parade. >> good job. >> so we'll get down and talk to them. want to meet them? they'll be out there until about 10:00 o'clock this morning. >> awesome. one in ten people never recover from a break up. but for those who do, doesn't happen right away. how long it takes to get over an ex. kind of depends who is doing the breaking up, what not. >> which gender you are. what gender takes quite a bit longer to get over a break up than the other joinedder.
9:01 am
>> i betty fick that out. >> because you're which is cents back to school time. getting your kids ready to go, probably said to yourself few times, oh, i remember back when i was going off to school. so, jen, i want -- let's talk about, let's just pick a decayed, pick the 70s, how it differs from the 70s to 2014. and let me start you off. first up, we shop way different now. everyone would go shopping for, you know, with a being to school clothes, and you wouldn't spends very much money back in the 70s. today, you go shopping on line, parents also spending way more on clothes. >> of course. >> another back to school necessity. now, jen, your kids are going back to school. compare the 70s to 2014 on expense and how you buy the clothes? >> well, first of all, i told my children, my birthday is august 3rd. every year of my live, for my birthday present, i got fancy
9:02 am
something. one outfit. right? but that was not my back to school shopping. that will was my birthday present. those two kids when i told them that, they lost their brain basically. in terms of how many i shop for the kids, you know, you have to go to amazon prime. you check the prices there. >> yes. >> you start like two, three weeks out. you got to get the sneakers, gout to go to dick's try to get a coupon. back in the 70s, you go to eckert's the night before and you hope there is a holly hobby lunch box. >> yes, yes. my mom used to take me to j.c. penney like two weeks before school. >> sure. >> oh, one cheer she bought me a suit, a blue suit. >> you wore a suit to school? >> well, we to wear dress up clothes. and it came with two pairs of pants. and the second pair was real loud plaid pattern. >> plaid pants? >> and toyed wear it to school one day, i was so mock, never wore it again. >> but that was in back then. >> was it? not at my school.
9:03 am
so talk about packing lunches, what's the difference between the 70s and now. >> so jen, packing lunches then, moms would get up in the morning and put the exact same lunch together for everyone each day, the same thing, you know, peanut butter jelly sandwich and whatever. today lunches are of course healthier, with organic, with allergy free products, everything, gluten free, whatever, you name it. you cannot just slap some peanut butter and jelly on two pieces of white bread. what do you make your kids for lunch, jen? >> reporter: yes, they are going to get little pretzel thins, with little bit of shredded threat it is, some hummus, and little compartment, but the hummus go goes in the other little part. and it has to be a bpa little container, or you feel super guilty. we talk about this. avenue twin brother, who i love so much. and he loved mustard. i hate mustard. i hate yellow mustar. i hate bologna. and when my younger siblings were born, my dad was in charge of school lunches for a
9:04 am
week or two. and woe make these like wonder bread mustard anibal own i sandwiches. and everybody was doing it fancy, because for me the girl woe cut it in triangle, princess pieces. and for andy he would get them in squares like a prince. i'm still mustard. >> when is the last time you talk to your brother? >> i don't know. 80s? >> in the 80s? >> in the 80s, yes. my mom ate the same lunch every day and put it in a brown bag. bologna, white bread, and catsup. >> sure. >> and i would put frito's, chips on it, smash it all down. >> see, my mom would never use white bread. always made me had have the hot wheat bread, and i hate philadelphia, she is no, the whole wheat is healthier. she was out of can you. >> talk about school supplies. back in the 70s, it was easy. everyone went to the store, got few notebooks, got some pencils, back pack, fancy back
9:05 am
packment today school supplies have fancy calculate efforts, maybe tablet even, and you have to have a fancy back pack. you know, with the princess on it. jen, what are your kids have? >> now, here is the thing. my kids are being real good. because i tell them they either get new back pack or they get new lunch bag. you know how the lunch thing? >> yes. >> so both of my kids this year, they are keeping their old back packs, all 12 months old, and they both got like the 7-dollar lunch bag from target. >> everyone in our house gets new pair of sneakers when you start. for the beginning of the year, like now in september, you get to go to the real shoe store like in december if you grow out of your shoes you have to go to like wal-mart, k-mart or something. you don't get two new pair every fancy shoes in one calendar year. >> heck no. >> talk getting the kids offer to school. my mom would send the kids off to school, maybe put on
9:06 am
record. >> relax. >> after you left it. >> after you leave for school. mom can relax. what are moms doing nowadays? >> oh, my goodness. going to work, yes, but taking pictures, and blogging and hoping their post goes viral. we helped them out by putting them on. yes, back then, moms would hand kids their lunch and breakfast and then as mike mentioned, well, i assume put on record, maybe make cocktail, lay back down and take a nap until the kids get back? >> now blogging, taking selfies. jen, if you weren't working, what would you do as you put the kids off to school? >> i would get in the hot tub machine and get a martini breakfast, that's what i would do. >> (laugh). >> i would join my friends on vacation, at the yoga place, tennis tournament. they do a lot of work. i will say this, the moms, they work at home, hate the term stay at home, work at
9:07 am
home, they do go to whole foods, weeingments, super fresh, they do a lot of real specific shopping, where at my house, we only have one kind of hummus, and you are lucky to have hummus as opposed to brody likes this kind, so they do a loft stuff. i think like the moms nowadays, they're professional moms. don't take this thing lightly soy fun toy see sometimes what brody and landry have to deal with which as i say one flavor of hummus versus, you know, 14 different things. probably save money, though, probably save a lot of money. last night i did the back to school shopping for brody and laundry, their school supply list from school. i went right to target. a lot go five below, to coupons, all these different things, probably save some money. >> anybody got time? >> nobody got time for that. >> you know i'm doing like
9:08 am
this seven days countdown to the beginning of school because we learned about that during back to school. >> they get their clues for their prize, my parents were like go to school, and sent me to school twice on the first day of school in a hurricane. i showed up at the school, i had taken the bus to p zoo. the principal had to call my mom and say why did you put kids on a bus during a hurricane? >> what's going on there? >> leo, i think first dcks, woo, sure, so first day of school he walks, in starts to plop himself down on the wooden block, some kid next to him had sharp two pencil and put it down, leo stood up and he had a number two pencil sticking out of his butt. >> oh, my gosh. >> right in my memory. >> can you not forget these things. that is one thing that will never change. >> kids being weird. hey, after all of that, have
9:09 am
you just maybe thought about let's not have that second child. but if you are still determined to have a baby, new classes where they take a babydoll before you become parents, and it determines how your parenting style will be, how you handle the baby. in a study couples were observed interacting with the same babydolls. >> they compare that with the way they interacted with their child after the baby was born. found parents in interacts dollars the doll with the doll rather revealed how had he actually co-parpan ended. couples not supportive, exhibited same in both scenarios, that, effective co-parent, is linked to happier childhoods, and healthier marriages. >> i will tell you the study published in the journal of family psychologist. >> of course. >> of course. a lot of people i remember first time parent, i was handed, it might have been the first baby i ever held.
9:10 am
>> i know. >> how do you do? look out. the head is dangling. ah. >> flapping all over the place. >> one thing in life no one makes you pass a test, you don't have to be a certain age, no requirement, you can have that baby and walk out of the hospital. >> so not bad idea. give this couple babydoll. >> yes. >> practice. >> researchers watch them interact over couple of weeks, you learn. >> whether you're going to be critical? >> and if you fail, maybe you shouldn't have the kids. >> good idea. you know, they do teach parent willing classes, i know at least at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania, because when we had avery we took a few, they had like infant care 101. they give you babydoll. >> your husband went? >> yes. he had to practice mostly, learning how to bathe it, and diaper it and swaddle it and how you would burden of proof it and all of that other stuff. you kind of learn. >> that's good. >> it is good. >> i remember a home he can class in seventh, eighth grade, could you have the baby to take home for two weeks, just yourself, not with
9:11 am
someone else, also, in middle school maybe, and you would take the baby home that would actually spit up or go to the bathroom. and cry, too. and it was like teaching you how to be a parent at very young age. >> where the heck was this school. >> is. >> our school too. >> not a real baby. a babydoll. >> you're right. >> learning how to be a mom. homeec class you learn to cook and clean. i don't know if they still have home ec class. >> ii. >> get on twitter, little us know. >> they call it something else now. >> but a boy did it? >> boys were in wood class. i remember this very clearly. it was like girls would go to home ec and guys could take it, but also take a tech class where they would learn how to use tools. >> shop class. >> wood shop. >> i did take wood shop. i made something zero on a late.
9:12 am
my dad still has it. >> i made a lamp on the late. >> did you use the my err block? >> all kind of things, mitre box, table saw. >> wow. >> hey, i have a question. are you having a hard time getting over the break up with your ex when you're not alone? a new study on rejection finds that one in ten people never, ever, recover from that serious break up. and here is some stats. it takes one full month for every year you were together. >> so if you're married or together for five years it, takes you five months? off average? >> well more women dot rejecting it, takes them 20% longer to get over a break up, compared to a man. >> and why do we think that is? >> well, you may be more expense tiff. >> you know what i think, nothing to do with men or women, i think nowadays it is so much harder in the world of social media where you can
9:13 am
keep tabs on your ex. >> yes. >> and you can look and see what they're doing, where the exgirlfriends s i don't but not really trying to get over anyone at this point in time, but if i were, i know how tempting it would be to be going on line, and finding out their every move. if you don't have any of that, if you eliminate that, you can't see them, see what they are doing, out every site, out every mind. if you think you have an ex still trying to get over you. >> i casino of hope so. >> you hope snow. >> maybe. i will really don't think so because it has been a while, years at this point. >> let's go back to when. tell us the story again about how you were doing the weather in omaha, nebraska, then we hired you. >> yes? >> and, you know, we are cheap, we didn't pay for the move. so she had to get -- (laughing). >> they got an u-haul, she got an u-haul. >> you did not. >> pack it up yourself. >> did you? >> with her boyfriend, the boyfriends drove her from omaha, 1500 miles to philadelphia. >> we went together. he didn't drive the whole time. >> and then she dumped him after the move. >> i said, listen, in my
9:14 am
defense, we were together, he had another job across the country there is happens a lot in it. v or in life with anyone, we were dating, i said, listen, i'm going to move on. this is where i am going, and our relationship is probably going toned. i might not have been very clear, but i clearly said you can go on this cross country trip with me, we can see the country from omaha to philadelphia, but that does not mean you are staying with me, you are going on a principal. >> after he moved the piano no her home and broke his back, sue then said -- >> bye bye. >> see ya later. >> let me tell you thousand get to 95. >> i swear to you i made it clear. before you get in that car. we can take this trip to go. you can take a week of your vacation but you are not staying with me. >> did he have to drive the ua back? >> no. so sad. >> all right, i want to go down and talk to the taney dragons. >> okay. so do quick wetter. >> quickly move downstairs. >> okay. >> all right. here is a live look outside. longer weather. so mike has time to get
