accomplishments. >> good day, monday june 6th, event. we will get you caught up on everything that happened over the weekend. a lot of you don't watch news. six straight hours. we can do this thing. sue serio is to go double duty, you are doing weather and traffic. >> we are all mvp's today, utility men, on the team, that is right. yes, baseball analogy. welcome to monday morning, it is, a comfortable monday morning. we have had a glorious weekend weather-wise as you know. i think we can keep that going for half of the day to day but we do expect tomorrow to be probably our first 90-degree day for 2014. the latest time we have ever reached 90 on record for philadelphia, was back in 2003, when, june 23rd, was our first 90-degree day but once there we may stay there for a little while. lets see what is going on. we will see ultimate doppler radar. in rain in the area.
4:02 am
no rain, really in the vicinity, even in our part of the country, little describe and drab way far to the south and west. expect a dry day to day. dad's delight, with a high of 83 degrees. the average high 83 degrees. so, yeah, we have called that a big old ten now. we will see what number we get today coming up. 65 degrees is our current temperature in philadelphia and our relative humidity still down there due points have not gone up yet. we don't expect them to go up high today. humidity kick nothing tomorrow. sunrise at 5:32 this morning. the shore cast for today, actually, i think we can remove that lightening. i don't believe we will see then are or lightening. we should have a decent day with temps in the mid 70's and surf temperature of 66 degrees. we will see that fixed coming up. fox cast we have a nice start to the day. 69 degrees. we have partly sunny skies throughout the afternoon. we will reach 80's quickly by lunchtime and we should top

was hurt. thousands of septa riders are feeling that relief this morning after regional rail workers decided to end their strike due to help from the government before the start of another commuter workweek. lets get out to steve keeley with all of the details on that good morning, steve. >> reporter: that decision was made for them. they were forced back to work by federal law. we have talk about in the springtime when the septa bus drivers were going to go on strike that the rail workers were not allowed to join them because of the railway act. that is why the the president ended their strike on saturday. so monday through friday commuters will never have even noticed the strike and been out of their daily routines and ride. short saturday only strike ended fast but unlike most strikes it did not end with a new contract but with the same old delay have of what most feared the the inevitable, another strike, at an even worse time in february. >> i think it is right thing to do. it gives us more time to hopefully negotiate and that is what i would like to see happened.
4:05 am
i have been involve with every septa strike for 15 years, you know, i haven't been asked. if i would ask, would i get involved. i think it is right thing to do gives them another 250 days to continue talking. >> just for the the president to do it, i thought it was really awesome. you know, and he is the president, he has much bigger things going on but for him to step in and do that for the the people that was awesome. >> a sigh of relief. i talk to the couple of conductors whom i feel bad for them because they're working without a contract. it seems like an awfully long time that they cannot seem to resolve. that i don't quite understand that. >> reporter: the presidential board will have private meetings, public hearings and recommendations but none of them are binding. it will be up to septa and unions to do in the next eight months what they have in the done in the past five years: reach a deal or the next strike will hit when colleges are back in semester, kids back in school and cold back
4:06 am
in the air, maybe snow back on the ground. when getting around without your train is way worse then it would be now. even though this has been delayed eight months we still don't know where we stan with the bigger issue and bigger unions that run trolleys and trains and buses in the city, that is still unsettled as well and it goodies nature of all those workers decide to go work and in the strike as only reason we see buses coming down here on market street, chris and karen. >> steve, thanks. a police involve shooting leaves one person critically injured and another wounded, in the arm. this happened yesterday afternoon in north philadelphia, during a fathers day block party of all things. police say two men appeared to have been shooting at one another when an officer pulled up. he fired his weapon, and he may have struck one or both of them. fox 29 spoke exclusively with the girlfriend of one of the men. she said they were unarmed and ran when they heard shots. >> when they heard the the

shooting, they start running to the house and then cops started shooting them because they was running to save their life. >> so a lot of questions about what exactly happened to that even, internal affairs is investigating and police say it is very preliminary. the man's girlfriend says that he is expect to recover. philadelphia airport officials are looking to reschedule passengers on a diverted plane to germany. lets look at a map. it shows a lufthansa flight circling before landing bark at the the airport on sunday. it originally took off from there but police say there was an indicator light that went on showing some kind of a landing gear problem. the flight was canceled. officials hope to get passengers on their way this morning. investigators are trying to determine what cause aid fire that killed six people in new jersey on the fathers day. fire broke out at 4:00 o'clock yesterday morning in newark. a 15 year-old boy and his mother and four others died. the teen and his mother were visiting newark from georgia
4:08 am
to honor the boy's late father >> i have to tell you... unaudible. i feel it in the art. i'm in the the personally would be. this is a sad day for the family. it is. >> a second home was also destroyed this that fire. >> investigators say the the fire does not appear to be suspicious. let the the games begin. >> absolutely. the special olympics kicks off today in, newark, new jersey. opening ceremonies were held last night at the the prudential center. 3500 athletes from across the the country have converged on the garden state to compete in 16 different events. the athletes entered the arena state by state, followed by a parade of supporters including friend, family, volunteers and even, some celebrities. we will have much more on that throughout the date from good day philadelphia jen fred will be out there. still ahead u.s. forces

4:34 am
that is why buses are keep running. suburban train have staff does not have freedom to strike because they have fallen in the federal railway labor act which gives the president the the power he used saturday to essentially order them back to work and two sides back to talks. it gives everybody involved in that situation another eight months but not many are too optimistic more time talking will mean more caving in by either side. suburban rail riders could be stranded longer than a sum are saturday starting in mid winter. >> i work at minimum wage, yes, i really don't know. i would have tried to like call, maybe a friend or car pooling or something but i'm happen that i they are backup and i'm happy that the president did step in and make it happen for us. >> i think they deserve a contract. they deserve to get paid. they work hard. >> electrical workers and. bew workers, i mean they have been out for a long time
4:35 am
without a contract they deserve a contract they deserve a certain raise and certain pension benefits and they need to know. that they need to be working together again to help the general public. they are the ones that suffer. >> well, february is now the next suburban rail strike possibility and with in deal with the rest of the 17 different septa unions in the city is done by then either there is the the strong possibility, chris and karen that all septa unions could shut down the whole septa system for the first time ever, since septa was created 50 years ago and real confusing thing about this is another thing we reported earlier this year was that new transportation act which was going to raise fees, taxes, and tolls for everybody. well that had money designated specifically for septa. so if they are getting all this new money, your all these unions working without new contract. that is a big question. >> that is a really good question, thanks. 4:35. philadelphia airport officials are working to rescheduled passengers on a diverted plane to germany this shows
