jacoby ellsbury really hasn't had a chance to run much tonight. he has been on base twice. but in the first, didn't even attempt it against danny duffy. and here we are with the yankees down by five and it's going to take a lot more than a jacoby ellsbury bag to get new york back in the game. we'll see if they start him again on 2-2. they do not. full count to teixeira now, three balls and two strikes. carlos beltran next. his double back in the sixth started the scoring. it was an inning in which the yankees would eventually tie with three runs. five unanswered, however, by the royals. and hosmer's there for this foul pop.

oh, boy. >> matt: that's the thing. the grinds of the baseball season. especially when you do get older, you've got a number of games behind you, you're never playing in optimal conditions. by that, i mean you're not 100%. and you've got to figure out ways to get by, things to do, whether it's physical, how you approach the game day in, day out. how you prepare yourself. very few guys have very few days where you're feeling 100% at this level. 3-0. and dyson takes a strike. so many people don't realize, you take baseball for granted during the spring and summer because it's just a part of the fabric of our summer months. 162 games played in 180 days. not a lot of recovery time.

younger players flourish under those circumstances, like shelby miller, who is part of the never stop improving profile. a complete game three-hit shutout today on the road against the mighty toronto blue jays. miller improves to 6-5. and, of course, with a lot of cardinal fans watching the royals, sharing the market and sharing that i-70 corridor, a big day for the red birds north of the border. here's omar infante now with one out and one on. certainly a welcome result for shelby miller, who had lost his three previous starts, allowing at least four runs in each of them. came up big earlier today at rogers center.

1-1 to infante. eric hosmer, who homered in his last try, waits on deck. into center field. and playable for ellsbury and out number two. >> eric: eric hosmer again, the big home run. the yankees coming into tonight have given up 67 home runs, which was the most in the american league. so something had to give. they were going to give up something. the royals, they don't hit any. they've got to run into one or two.

>> matt: we were talking about how power is part of a major league first baseman's resume. there have not been many everyday first baseman to strive for fewer than five home runs in a season. the face that hosmer had been on previously. one that we all expect him to blast past. if you take a couple of noted contact players away from it, joe mauer would be an example currently, american league first basemen with fewer than five home runs in a season, there have been just a handful since 1973. we do not expect eric hosmer's name to be added to this list. rod carew a guy you didn't expect power from.

tigers and red sox are in the bottom of the seventh inning with detroit still on top by four. we started talking about that little hiccup that the tigers had earlier this week, losing five in a row. you talk about how it was a portion of a greater slide for them. if nothing else, it gave the rest of the a.l. central a little light at the end of the tunnel. in the minds of so many, the tigers are the class of the division. cleveland, kansas city, the white sox are better than some had them advertised. even the twins up from a down couple of years. keeping the central division tight would certainly keep interest in places outside of detroit. >> eric: a couple weeks ago, i was here with fox and did the tigers-royals game on a

saturday. danny duffy pitched that game as well. that whole weekend, detroit just looked so much better than kansas city. i mean, it didn't even look like the two teams were comparable. again, ned yost saying just stick with us, we're going to be fine. he's right. we're in the thick of things. detroit has come back to earth. >> matt: roberts bounces it to second. and that's the first out of the inning with solarte coming around to score. to make it an 8-4 ball game. >> eric: nice play by infante getting over there to grab the ball, and then, of course, just recording the out. don't care about the run. don't care about ichiro getting to second. looking for outs right now.

>> matt: gardner held hitless tonight. the yankees started play tonight with a better road record than home mark. and should things not turn around tonight, joe girardi's guys would drop to 18-14 on the road. still a better record than at home. doesn't happen very often that the yankees are better away from yankee stadium. the last time they had a winning road record and losing home record, 1968, mickey mantle's final season in the big leagues.

over a good team, and then you wonder why we haven't seen more of this this season. >> i was one of guys to pick the royals to win it all, at least get into the playoffs. great quality bullpen depth and young hitters. billy butler, eric hosmer. sooner or later these guys have got to get hot. different teams get hot during different parts of the season. you never know. maybe they got off to a rocky start, they could be hot the next hundred games. they could find themselves right back in this race and still could challenge detroit for this vision. >> talking about the royals' offense, 25-4 on the season when they score at least four runs. they had seven of them against depth tonight. he gave up six runs his last start. this is a guy the yankees need to get going in that rotation. >> they do. they have asked david phelps to step up a little bit more in the rotation. no cc sabathia, no nova, no pine pineda. alex gordon puts a good swing on it. kind of a bad break. this ball is not hit very hard.

a developing story. one man killed, actor comedian tracey morgue nan critical condition. tonight what investigators believe caused this deadly crash. plus: >> a victim speaking exclusively to fox 29. investigators say there is man used craigslist to lure her, rape her, and she may not be the only one. live from center city in philadelphia. this is "fox 29 news" at 10:00. we begin tonight with a young woman's horrifying story. you'll see only on fox. a single mom, just looking for work, says she answered an ad for a job, but instead, she was ambushed and raped. tonight her accused attacker is under arrest. thanks for joining us tonight, i'm joyce evans. she shared her terrifying experience with us, but police are even more concerned, they believe, she may not be the only victim. fox 29's sabina is live in

upper darby, delaware county tonight. she spoke exclusively with the victim, who wants to warn others about what she says can happen to anybody. sabina? >> reporter: joyce, tonight the victim speaks only to fox 29. she is a strong, inspiring teenager, who says she is standing up for other women who may be suffering in silence. >> what happened to me, i wouldn't wish it upon my worsen any. >> reporter: through tears, the fresh pain after alleged assault, this brave young woman is finding her voice to talk about what she says happened when she answered a craigslist ad looking for work last thursday. we are concealing her identity >> i am a single mom. i have been looking for work for a long time. >> she said the man behind the ad told her he was hiring a home health aid. the man, 42 year old kevin cornish of drexel hill, took the victim to the apartment he shares with his mother. >> picked me up.

i had my bag and everything, i had my scrubs, everything. >> but instead after job application, police say cornish forced the young woman to sign forms saying she was an escort. >> and he told me to throw the paperwork out. when i seen the escort part, i didn't want to fill nothing out. i just wanted to go home. and he put his hands on my shoulder, he pushed me down, he said you're not going no where until you fill this paperwork out. >> allege cornish then brutally raped the young mother as she begged him to let him go. >> i said i just want to go home, i just want to go home to my daughter, i just want to be therefore my daughter, i thought i wasn't never going to come home. >> the brave teen went to police when authorities searched his apartment they found about 50 filled out escort forms, signed by different women. >> he is a preditor. 's scumbag. 's dirtball. i mean, he is a real slime, real slime. and we think he was involved in other things, other type of predatory acts, sexual assaults, exactly, you don't

arrest. >> reporter: right now morgan is intensive care here at the hospital, his family, friends have, come by here to visit the comedian. meantime police say that the truck driver is responsible for the deadly crash, and he is now facing several criminal charges. >> thirty rock and saturday night live star tracey morgan is known for making people laugh. but tonight the comedian's fans are somber. >> praying for him, the people, a hundred%. >> this crumbled mess all that's left of the luxury van morgan was riding in along with four other passengers. police say around 1:00 a.m., a wal-mart tractor-trailer rearended morgan's limo, caused six car pile up on the new jersey turnpike in cranberry. morgan's friend and fellow comedian, jimmy mcnair, was killed. morgan, and another passenger, were air lifted to robert wood johnson university hospital. >> i hope he gets better. i heard he was intensive care. so i pray god's mercy and grace on him.

and he'll make a full recovery and come back with those laughs. >> making others laugh is what morgan was doing before the deadly crash. morgan and his friends were on their way back to new york after a friday night performance in delaware. artery, who opened for morgan, tweeted these picks of the comedian and friends of the cheering crowd. >> honestly i think it is unfortunate it happened to tracey morgan, but could happen to anyone. >> police say the wal-mart truck driver swerved for some reason at the last minute. investigators have charged the truck driver, kevin roper, of georgia. he is facing one count every death by auto, and four counts of assault by auto. wal-mart's president and ceo released a statement today, in part it, reads: we're praying for the family and friends of the passenger who lost his life and the terrible accident in new jersey. morgan's public lib cyst released short statement saying the actor was receiving excellent care here at the hospital. as for the truck driver, his bail set at $50,000.

reporting from new brunswick, new jersey, lydia, "fox 29 news". hundreds turn out to mourn one of the victims after deadly plane crash that killed several prominent area residents including philanthropist lewis katz. today the community honored marcy dalsey. they came out to the charter school she co-founded for two hour service. they laughed and they cried remembering marcy and all of the work she's done. fox 29's drew dickman has more. >> reporter: hundreds filled the katz academy gym to pay respects to the charter school's president and co-founder, marcy dalsey. dalsey's school children helped celebrate her life with a musical tribute. but to think the katz academy was the only impact on others wouldn't do her life justice.

>> marcy was a force of nature. she was a powerhouse. she was a powerhouse compact in the this little person, and she was impressive. >> the 59 year old died last weekend in a bedford massachusetts plane crash that killed six others. the group was returning from an education fundraiser when their plane never made it off the ground. >> do not take anything for granted in this life. i took for granted when i received that text that my marcy was on her way home. >> dalsey's children say she died pursuing her passion, helping others. >> she made sure to let all of us know just how much she cared, every opportunity she had and i think everyone here if you could maybe just try to apply that to your own lives. >> the tragedy also took the life of lewis katz. dalsey worked closely with katz and his son, drew. her legacy will now live on through the charter school

that serves as safe haven for the children of camden. >> i'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that this place is going to be known as the katz-dalsey academy from this day forward. >> monsignor doyle of sacred heart in camden says bell told 59 times yesterday at the church to commemorate the life of marcy dalsey. the bell came from a scrap heep in camden, and ended up at the top of the church, something doyle says is fitting for the life she lived. reporting in the news room, drew dickman, "fox 29 news". and we have much more in today's emotional memorial service, just go to myfoxphilly.com for a slide show. happening now, philadelphia police investigating two overnight shootings on the same block. they have another 5400 block every hunter street, that's in west philadelphia. just after 1:00 this morning. now, officers found a 25 year old man dead. he was shot in the back.

months later, a 30 year old man was found shot multiple times. he was inside a car. he's in the hospital tonight in critical condition. there is no word on motive or if the shootings were related. fire rips right through flower shop in gloucester county, new jersey, happened at the rose budd florist, on the 200 block of high street, that's in glassboro. firefighters arrived around 1:00 to find smoke coming out of the second floor. nobody was hurt there. and, it is amaze that nobody was hurt in this fast moving fire in west philadelphia. crews arrived on the 1400 block of 54th street, this was just after 3:00 this morning. the fire was quickly put under control. no word on what caused it yet. and, firefighters had to break out a lot of windows to fight this fire in pennsauken township, new jersey, officials say it started on the second floor of this apartment building, on the 5400 block of highland avenue. no injuries reported here

either. philadelphia police and atf officials are looking for clues in to explosion of a soda machine. happened thursday night outside a plumbing business on the 4200 block of magee avenue, mayfair. authorities say a home aid device was put inside the vending machine. the blast rocked the neighborhood and shattered windows. investigators hope surveillance video showing the suspect placing that explosive at the scene will help. this is someone that constructed an explosive device, and powerful one, and somewhat sophisticated one. we need to have them in custody to make sure that we have them and any other components they may possess to make another device. >> well, nobody was hurt, but the owner of the machine says the blast caused thousands of dollars in damage. and, do you know this man? police say he's wanted for robbing a family dollar store in wissinoming.

they say he walked into the store wednesday on torresdale avenue, caring a metal pipe. he told the workers to hand over the cash inside the register, but the cashier could not get the cash drawer to open. so he ran to the back of the store. and that's when the would be robber tried to open t but he couldn't open it, either. so he ran out of the store empty-handed. and, we have a reminder for you now. if you are traveling in south philadelphia there is weekend, the platt bridge, it is closed. the bridge will be shutdown for the entire weekend for repair work. the platt is getting a coat of sealant. it is part of a $43 million overhaul. it will reopen at 5:00 monday morning. and, this alert now for patco ridersment patco temporarily shutting down service between camden new jersey and the eighth street station in center city philadelphia. it is starting soon at midnight. and it will last until tomorrow at noon. sunday, we're talking, patco
