in washington. audrey barnes reports protestors' plan to build a shelter led to the standoff. >> reporter: the bar-like building went up overnight. demonstrators say they had architects and engineers draw up plans for it and spent about $1,400 on building materials. >> we built it because there's a lot of people occupying here and were cold. going to have this green technology with a way of keeping people warm, and will be used for our general asse >> reporter: what they didn't have was a permit, so police said it had to come down. protestors ignored the 11: 11:45 a.m. deadline to remove the structure. [yelling] >> reporter: some sat inside in, others went on the roof, refusing to go. the police started arresting them.

a city building inspector declared the structure unsafe just after 5:00. police issued more warnings for the six holdouts on the roof to come down. armored vehicle arrived, along with a giant air bag and a cherry picker. after some coaxing, two jumped into the air bag. it took an officer in a cherry picker to harness up the last four occupiers and get them off the roof. >> building a building near a municipality, there are government inspections and that didn't take place. >> reporter: the crowd that watched say it focused necessary attention on their causes. >> i think this is part of our message, that people need housing and need to be taken care of of. we came out with a declaration that truly states what we are here about, and i think that if that gets coverage along with this, that's what we're looking for.

>> reporter: after the last demonstrator was safely removed, that structure was bulldozed. audrey barnes, fox 5 news. we continue our occupy coverage now in texas, where police found a man's body in a 10 on the campus of the university of north texas. investigators don't know who he is yet, but say he was not a student at the school. the medical examiner will perform an autopsy. it's going to take longer for mail to get to where it needs to go. postal service will end its guaranteed next day delivery. they'll announce the cutbacks tomorrow. the goal is to save $3 billion. at least one congressman says even though the government doesn't fund the postal service now, it might be time to privatize it completely. >> one of the things i like about the postal service is we don't appropriate money to them. they have to sell stamps to generate revenue and we want to continue that. you don't cut service, slow down the service, if you want to sell more stamps, and they

want to raise rates. that's not a way to drive volume. i think they're moving in the opposite direction. >> the cuts will kick in in the spring. the postal service is considering closing hundreds of processing centers and laying off thousands of employees. it's been two years since a man was arrested and jailed in cuba and this week a group of maryland representatives is calling on the country to release alan gross. he says he was in cuba to help a jewish community get internet access. but the cuban court called him a spy. so far, not succeeding at the negotiating table. why israel's resistance to talk might be linked to iran. >> reporter: while trying to reassure israel of america's unshakeable commit to its security, leon panetta pressed

them to do more with their arab neighbors. and he said a good place to start is to come back to peace talks with the palestinians. >> we can't get them to the damn table to at least sit down and begin to discuss their differences. we all know what the pieces are here to a potential agreement. talked about, worked through. we understand the concerns. >> reporter: one middle east analyst says that criticism may give israel's enemies a boost. >> when hezbollah and hamas would read this statement, they would read it as america is frustrated with israel. this will not encourage the radicals to come to the table, but support the idea of them becoming more radical. >> reporter: israels say the palestinians aren't serious negotiators. you see panetta meeting with

netanyahu in october. the palestinians say they're ready to resume talks, if israel stops building settlements in parts of the west bank. in washington, molly henningberg, fox news. we had a wonderful weekend and temperature-wise, we didn't do so badly. 55degrees today at national airport. 57 at baltimore. temperatures in the 40s and 30s. 46degrees at national airport now, with a light southerly wind flow. area-wide, temperatures a little on the cooler side. 37degrees at martinsberg. 41quantico. 46 d.c. 43gaithersburg. 40 at baltimore. with 47 at annapolis. clouds rolling in ahead of a frontal system. with it, a fair amount of rainfall over the next two days or so.

a lot of this will push in from the south and we're going to end up seeing this front actually move through and will be close to north carolina/virginia border and we'll see a low pressure system develop and head to the north. that will set us up for a chance of more rainfall mid- week. mostly cloudy skies for monday. we'll end up seeing rain pushing in close to the overnight hours for monday and lingering through into tuesday. but tomorrow will be cloudy, but a mild day. 59degrees by midday. not bad at all. 59 by the 4:00 hour. here's a look at your five-day forecast. wet weather with that frontal system. monday night into tuesday. tuesday looks like a rain day. may not be heavy rain all day long. but keep the umbrella handy. a little bit wednesday night into thursday from that second system, low pressure system i should say developing along the front. guess what? back to sunshine by the time friday rolls around. just in time for the weekend. will, maureen? >> another good weekend.

thanks, gwen. this is a story to make you believe in never getting up. >> this dog got lost and ended up in california, nearly 3,000 miles away from home. police say a woman found the dog and turned her over to an animal rescue. the staff scanned for a microchip and it was registered to a clinic in virginia. the owner says the dog has been missing since '03. >> amazing to me. i kept saying, you're in virginia? because we're in california. >> the family plans to fly her home in the next couple of days. >> gone for eight years? can you imagine what stories she could tell if she could talk? >> she said the dog had to be transported there. didn't get across the mississippi and grand canyon, right? >> of course. >> at least they'll be reunited. myfoxdc.com. >> sports xtra is two minutes away.

bobby mitchell. tied at 10. curly, gets a little squirrely on the punt. led to a field goal to give the skins a lead at the half time. to the fourth, goes 21 yards to the jets' 25. set up a 46-yard field goal. the redskins led 16-13 with less than 8 minutes to go. next possession, sanchez, holmes, 30 yards for the touchdown. gave the jets the lead for the first time, 20-16. grossman looking left, gets drilled and fumbles. pace recovers at the redskins' 9-yard line. two plays later, green takes the direct snap and runs it in from 9-yards out. one of three touchdowns on the day for green. and the redskins lose 39-14. now 4-8, tied with the eagles

for last in the nfc east. helu rushed for 100 yards for the second consecutive week, first rookie to do it since reggie brooks in 1993. davis led the team in receptions and receiving yards, including a 42-yard catch on the opening drive. and 304 yards. but the loss is the first to the jets since 1993 and after the game no one was happy. >> frustrating. come out in the second half. i think we had three series of three outs and offense, come back with a pretty good play. and got the touchdown. we're still in the football game. just disappointed with the way we finished. couldn't get much going on offense. it's hard to win a football game when you finish like we did. >> the first half, you know, first half was all right.
