she had no experience running the public. carol joynt is closing the place that has been in georgetown for 40 years. >> it's many things, but mostly for the customers, for my staff and customers it's a very sad day. many of my staff have found jobs fortunately. the customers, there was a woman that sat at the bar yesterday drinking her wine and sobbing, and i think it was because she met her lover here every day, and she left in tears. and it's heartbreaking. >> i am sure there are a million stories about peoples' connections to nathans. she still owes $20,000 in back taxes to city, and people have been coming by and dropping off

police discoveredhe the murder victrss fit. investigators say firefighter responded to aen kchirit fe at an apartment building on university boulevard and langley park yesterday. they discovered the bodies of a couple in their 20s. and then later d.c. officials found a man that jumped. >> that man was allethe landlor the murdered couple. police will only say that he is in his 50s. an elderly woman is in the hospital after she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a house. the homeowner was not hurt, but the home was so badly damaged he needs to find another place to

stay. darcy spencer has our report. >> big, boom. big boom, like the bomb or something like that. >> reporter: he was jogging when he heard the crash. a woman in her 80s driving this chevy malibu drove into his home. the damage was ssevere a building inspector declared the home unsafe. good thing you were not in the house? >> yes, i was not at that time in the house, and i am lucky abt that. >> reporter: the elderly woman was driving near the intersection when for unknown reasons she drove on to the dewalk through a privacy fence and into his house. >> the vehicle had a single driver occupant in it, and significant injuries, unconscious and unresponsive, and was transported to the local trauma center. >> reporter: the neighbor heard the crash and called for help. >> i heard a large crash, and

about six months ago there was a similar accident, so i figured i would check the same area, and came down to the cul-de-sac and sure enough i saw the car in the road turned around the wrong way, so i grabbed a phone and called 911. >> residents say there have been several crashes at o near the intersection, and they are hoping montgomery county will make it safer, and take steps to slow down lead-footed drivers. >> they put devices on kent mill road, but there are still problems. they need to monitor it with cameras and enforce it. >> reporter: darcy spencer, news4 today. a fire caused trouble for firefighters in montgomery county. it broke out around 7:30 last night in silver spring. and flames shot from the windows as the building because

evacuated. a dozen people were rescued by firefighters. six treated for smoke inhalation, and cuts and other medical problems. and only one other residents was transported to the hospital. and one firefighter was treated for dehydration. and residents from the ninth floor down were allowed too return toheir apartments. tomorrow, d.c. prosecutors will open the trial of the woman accused of killing her four daughters last january. investigators believe the girls had been dead for seven months before they were discovered. and they believe one of the girls was stabbed and three others strangled. and jacks said they died in their sleep. and she rejected an insanity defense and faces life in prison without parole. police are investigating what they are calling suspicious death in glenn burny.

on friday evening, police were called to an apartment. when the officers arrived they found the body of an 83-year-old cook in the fridge. it could be days before an official cause of death is determined. we are now hearing from a man that police say tried to stop a violent suspect on friday. 49-year-old william spencer is accused of robbing a store, and holding a family hostage and stealing their car and then holding an elderly couple host e. and one man tried to stop spencer and spoke to news4 abo what happened. >> he was walking ahead of me, and i have my weapon displayed, and when he saw the police officers he took off running. there were several people on the street. i did not want to fire my weapon. i did not want to hit anybody

the space shuttle "endeavour" remains on the launch pad this morning. not a cloud in the sky. nasa is holding meetings this morning to try and launch the shuttle tonight. severe weather forced saturday's scheduled to be scratched. technicians found no damage, but

july sun will climb into the 80s. we are in the low 80s. it's aarm start. we have a north westerly flow, which tells us the front already moved through. and the dew points dropped a bit. and the wind right now, gusting up to 18 miles per hour. so it's breezy out there. temperature wise, this is what is happening. let's take a look, and 81, it's warm a it's only 9:00 in the morning. 81 degrees. you know it's going to be a warm day, because we are starting off on the warm side. and 79 over in annapolis. and these numbers should start to drop as northerly winds bring in less humid weather. and the dew points are less up towards buffalo. and even though we have cooler temperatures in the north, we will not get into that. we will stay on the warm side. you can sequin de 81 degrees in beltway. here is the front sliding across

the region. not much associated with the frontal band. and as the front continues to slide on up towards the south, it will help to push that humid weather southward, and northerly winds will help to knock the humidity down. with all the sunshine, we are heading to the mid and upper 80s as we head into the afternoon hours. eventual eventually, a higher area of pressure will drop down from canada. this will keep us dry for the next couple days. and then on wednesday, there will be a warm front and we will warm up into the 90s. and this is around wednesday and thursday. for this afternoon, mostly sunny to partly cloudy. on the warm side. less humid. temperatures in the mid-80s. and the extended forecast, 86 degrees today. tomorrow, just a smidge warmer. and likewise on tuesday, and then wednesday, maybe a late day

morning on the "washington post," the president said it was never meant to return to the economy to full health, and is supposed to work over the course of two years. good morning. welcome back to news4 today. let's find out how the sunday's forecast is shaping up. steve villanueva has the weather. >> it's a warm start to the day with temperatures in the low 80s this morning. we are heading to the mid and upper 80s for today. the good news is the humidity will start to drop as the winds start to bring in the less humid weather. 81 degrees in the beltway. and northerly winds, again, will bring in the drier end. and the front could kick up a few clouds today, especially south of town. mostly sunny to partly cloudy.

mid-80s, and upper 80s south of town. and then we will talk about the rest of the week in a bit. and questions about textbook at the islamic academy put it in the spotlight for years. and now there is another concern about howhe expansion will affected traffic. >> overdo for mowing, this is where the sometimes controversial islamic saudi academy wants to expand and set up the main campus. for years the academy operated a private school for muslim children. and 750 k-12 grade students attended this scol, while 200 to 300 students were taught in the building here.

>> they would like to build a much nicer permanent facility for their students. >> reporter: the expansion proposal has opposition on two fronts. residents fear with up to 500 students traveling in, traffic dangers will increase. >> they have been very good neighbors. the only situation is the traffic situation and the impact it will have. we are concerned for not only our safety, but for kids driving on the road. >> reporter: in recent years, too, some of the textbooks used at the academy have come under fire. and some contain language that could suggest violence. and those concerns are reason enough for the county to turn down the expansion proposal. >> it's the same fundamental issue that we have with the county is they look for the easy out, and they need to be taking a harder look, essentially they are guilting of judging a book

by its cover. they would rather look at lawn clippings and grass height than reports. >> reporter: the academy is promising a long list of transportation upgrades. >> they hired a transportation consultant, somebody that specializes in traffic transportation, and as a result put together, i think, a combination of improvements and conditions that will minimize any impacts on the road. >> reporter: the supervisor has not made up his mind yet. >> i think there are significant transportation issues, and if we can get those addresses we will go from there. >> there will be a hearing tomorrow before the fairfax county board of servisors on the issues. and victims are taking action now, legal action now. after the first personal injury lawsuits was filed two days after the accident that killed

and it looks like the george washington parkway. and it's warm already this morning. 81 degrees here in the district under mostly clearskies. and the winds northwesterly, and the front pushed through. and it's breezy out there. the dew point in the mid-60s, and it's muggy, but that will come down in the next few hours. 83, dallas. phoenix, 6:00 in the morning, and it's 92 degrees. it's going to be very hot in the four corner states and back off into texas. it's warm locally as well. dew points in the mid-60s. and dew points are lower in the north. and this is an area that will drop down into the area. we have a dip in the jet stream sitting on top of us. this kept us cooler than average for the entire moh. today, even though we have the trough coming down from the north, the temperatures will not cool down that much.

it will be hot in the central part of the country. and there is a frontal ban across the region. today it could kick up clouds, but it will help to push the humid weather off to the south. and high pressure will be the main player. the front will drop off to the south. and then for us, we are looking for nice weather over the next couple days, as high pressure dominates. eventually, come the middle of the week, the front will move through as a warm front. this will warm things up for wednesday and thursday. by then we could jump into the 90s with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm. and then on tuesday, still warm, and plenty of nine. and then wednesday, we could jump into the low 90s in some spots. we could have an afternoon
