shows a 16-year-old being shot in a local business. the two men police are now looking for. >> and running in 2020. the big announcement expected today from president trump. >> and the big story is the controversial fallout from a south jersey teacher. hundreds of students walked out of class fromigh school east. demanding the reinstatement of a teacher removed from his job after raising concerns about school security. jeanette reyes is live with the latest development. >> reporter: sara this controversy doesn't seem to be dying down any time soon. hundreds of students came out and walking out of class. close to 1,000 students. they say this is not the last of the protests until their demands are met. >> this morning chopper 6 hd hovered over head as hundreds of cherry hill east high school

students left in a staged walkout. a strong response to the firing of a beloved history teacher. >> he brought up a real problem about how our school security e protest. the 59-year-old was placed on leave before his comments upset the students. >> i don't know who it was personally. but it wasn't right because with what he was doing was to protect her not hurt her. >> and the school is not safe. and what happened in parkland could happen to anyone. he was treated unfairly. >> there are four security guards at cherry hill high school east. but none are armed. calls to the district and superintendant went unheard. this morning that only applied to students that walked off the

property. >> this is what democracy looks like. parents and others driving by ny could count on their support. >> awesome. >> i think it's a bright future. and i think it's hopeful. makes me hopeful. my son with students all about activi activist. we need more of that now. >> the walkout lasted an hour and students return back to class. we reached out to the superintendant and the calls have yet to be returned. we know there say meeting tonight where it's mostly come up. no word on what the district plans on doing. we'll have a full report coming up this afternoon. reporting live in cherry hill, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you.

in other news an innocent bystander is among those in philadelphia that claimed one life. police are looking for the masked gunman that shot a man at point-blank range and one man died from his injuries. it happen as the pair was leaving a corner store at fairfield streets. and a woman nearby was hit by a stray bullet. she was rushed to the hop in critical condition. bob brooks has the latest in a live report at 12:30. >> donald trump is expected to formerly announce his election bid before the day is over. the campaign is open for months. and based out of trump tower in manhattan. abc news learned that the former digital director brad parscalis named as his 2020 campaign manager. >> time for a check of the accuweather forecast. and another relatively mild winter day. as we approach the end of february. looking live outside.

sky 6 hd showing you the view of independence time. clear skies and nice afternoon. david murphy is tracking the latest conditions from the weather center. >> today is good looking and feeling too compared to where we were a couple of days ago. you see a lack of cloud cover across the region and get the shades set as you head outside. up to 51 degrees in philadelphia and trenton and allentown milder as you look at the numbers. our average highs today are anywhere from the mid to upper 40s. everybody is busting past the numbers rather nicely. if you head outside you don't need a lot of extra gear and there is not a lot of wind or windchill. and looking at calm winds and over in beach haven and cape may. and the best you'll do is 8 or 9 miles per hour on the wind meter today. the temperatures treat us well as we go through the next several days or hours 55 by 2:00. and 57 at 3:00.

to be on the school resource officer that apparently did nothing to stop the gunman. he spoke out in his own defense after being slammed by the president. >> scott peterson is defending his decision. and his lawyer released audio backing him up after the president called him a coward and said he would do things differently. >> i am scott peterson a police officer for 30 years, defending himself after being called a coward by the president. >> they didn't react properly under pressure or a coward. >> and the action questions by the sheriff. >> went in and address the killer, killed the killer. >> scott peterson, an attorney, in a letter called the remarks a gross oversimcases of events and omitted points like his client

received a call about firecrackers and when with he heard the shots he thought they were coming from outside. in the letter his lawyer says that peterson was unfairly attacked by many including the sheriff and the alligation he was a coward are patently untrue. president trump told a room of governors he would have done things differently. >> i don't know until you are tested but i think i would have run in even without a weapon and i think the people in this room would have done that too. >> he is continuing to call for schools to arm teachers. >> with nothing on the legislative calendar and the president has background checks held up over a single senator. it seems that any legislative fix remains stalled. back here new video shows

breaking news now from the strawberry mansion section of philadelphia. chopper 6 hd is over the 2500 block of north new kirk here. the fire here that was burning earlier is under control but we learn that bun person died as a result of the blaze. you see firefighters are still here on the scene. a lot of debris outside of the home. this fire broke out just after 9:00 this morning here on the 2500 block of north new kirk street.

two people did make it out. when this fire started. they did suffer injuries though and were taken to area hospitals for treatment but again we learn that one person has died in this blaze in strawberry mansion. georgia's lieutenant governor decided to stop the tax break after they broke their ties with the nra. georgia democrats are now blasting the lieutenant governor for his threats. health check at noon. a major doctors group is out with new guidelines for treating teenage depression and the american association of pediatrics say that all children under 12 should be screened during their annual checkups and should be seen alone without a

meteorologist, david murphy, is here now we are about to say good-bye to february and hello march. >> a good way to go out. as we look at stormtracker 6 live double scan we are dry out there. how about cape may for a pretty picture this noon. not only blue sky but reflecting on the water and the ocean looks great and not a lot of wave action out there. the winds are calm and inland and the ocean it's fairly mild and 51 is your current temperature and the average high is 47 in philadelphia and only the mid-day hour and winds turn out of the southwest and introducing slightly milder air. i expect to add 5 or 6 degrees and an 8 miles per hour wind. not particularly blustery out there. 63 in allentown, it's milder in allentown and reading than it is in philadelphia. because the winds are coming straight up the delaware river

and they catch the weather station there with some cooler air coming in off the ocean. you lose a couple of degrees, 55 in cape may. and sunglasses all around this afternoon and the closest significant cloud cover is on the other side of toronto and we are looking in the pink. lehigh valley sun and high of 56. that is an above average and down the shore a good looking day as we just saw on sky 6. mostly sunny and cool with a high of 51 degrees. if you go to cape may you can stop at 49. and philadelphia 57 and lots of sun and pleasant with winds on the light side out of the southwest 5 to 10 miles per hour. and overnight tonight the winds are still light and clear for the most part. this morning we woke up in the low 30s close to philadelphia. this morning or tomorrow morning we'll get up to 38 and it will be similar just a couple of degrees milder and another

chilly start outside. suburbs down to the freezing mark. the continued flow out of the south we continue to get mild. and maybe a degree or two milder than yesterday or today. 58 is tomorrow's high. and the tradeoff we have a system approaching us that tends to spread clouds today and high clouds filter in and get things done and dry and high of 58 and rain gathering to the south and west and there say low pressure center coming in during the day on thursday. and then definitely thursday night into friday morning. you can see future tracker 6 by noon on thursday keeping most of the area dry and during the afternoon we see the rain comes in. and at times on the steady side 5:00 on thursday, a possibility there will be a lull. and we get overnight thursday into friday morning and a chance of some heavy rain at least pockets of that and poor

drainage area flooding and cold air on the backside of this may have a tendency to change us to wet snow at the tail end of the precipitation before we are done. thursday afternoon, nighttime and friday morning a time period to watch. tomorrow increasing clouds and 58 and thursday 54 degrees and rain will gradually arrive in the afternoon and evening and heavy at times and friday way coastal low forming windy and wet with wind swept rain and chilly conditions and high on friday of just 45 degrees. rain tapering off during the day and drying out on saturday and sunday but that storm in the vicinity off the coast and windy and chilly and highs in the mid-40s and bundling up for the union game. it will be chilly. >> more ahead in our next half hour of "action news" at 12:30.
