this evening. vernon odom spoke with displaced families who lost everything in the fire. but first we go to bob brooks live outside the scene in west chester with the latest on the investigation tonight. bob. >> reporter: monica and rick, nothing is being ruled out. a group of federal investigators are on their way here to try and piece together what exactly happened but assisting them is a group of criminal investigators. officials don't want to leave any stone unturned. i'll step out of the way. there's the nursing home. excuse me the assisted living home. it's still smoking. smoke is still bar rolling out of the exposed roof there and we also know that if it weren't for the heroic actions of firefighters and neighbors last night those injured would likely be more. despite massive flames spreading extremely fast. >> within two minutes it was engulfed in flames. >> reporter: we know first responders neighbors alike ran into the burning building and saved a lot of lives. one of them neighbor laciness

kings land. he says seniors were carried out it was a team effort. >> as i was going in and out i noticed my neighbors were going in and out and everybody was doing everything they could to help the fire department. >> reporter: at a news conference just about two hours ago officials told us at least 27 residents have been injured and at this point they're still trying to account for everyone after the chaotic night. >> we're still compiling a list and working a list with the owners of the facility itself and trying to get a solid fix on everybody -- on all the residents and that they have all been accounted for. >> reporter: we're also told the next steps are to finish making sure the fire is totally under control and then sending in a team of experts to figure out what happened and look for possible victims who may not have made it out. >> we have certified fire investigators, explosive specialist chemists electrical

engineers. >> reporter: skills that will certainly be needed to try and figure out what exactly happened behind me. we also spoke with a witness who was here last night who says he spoke with a nurse who ran out. she said first she smelled smoke then she heard a loud explosion and then it went up in flames. for now reporting live in west chester bob brooks channel6 "action news." >> thank you bob. now let's switch live to vernon odom at the pembroke health center in west chester where many of the folks were taken for shelter. good evening, vernon. >> reporter: mary meek am has lived there for two years. her loving family children grandchildren and great grandchildren able to visit her there regularly. so, too, for many of the others but last night, she and the other residents were visited by great peril. >> you think you've had a good life and you don't want it to happen like that to go out but we have no control of things. >> reporter: mary meekam who turned 101 last sunday left it

in the lord's hands last night when this inferno roared through the barclay center. her life was saved by one of the nurses here who got her out of bed and pushed her to safety in the frigid night air. she pays tribute to the firefighters, the ems workers, the red cross and to the franklin street neighbors who poured out of their homes to bring them items they desperately needed to survive until they could be taken to hospitals or shelters. >> and it was cold. they had blankets and everything you could think of to keep the people warm, giving them hats, giving them gloves, giving them plenty of coverage to keep warm but it was cold. >> tons of people have come out to help, tons. all of the neighbors are really coming out to try to do what they can. >> reporter: it was hours of fear and agony overnight as mary's daughter and granddaughter searched in vain for her whereabouts. they did not know for many hours if she had survived. >> when we found out grand was

along with more video from the action cam and chopper6. stay with us all night long for continuing updates on this devastating fire. in other news a killing of a young mother in woodbury that went unsolved for two months now has a suspect. today gloucester county from are sean dalton announced the arrest of 19-year-old brandon wilson of paulsboro. he's charged with first degree murder in the death of 26-year-old shawneeq carter. she died of blunt force trauma in a home on hopkins street in september. carter had been house sitting for the homeowner who was out of town at the time. police said the suspect had lived in that house as a foster child for a brief time in 2015. they believe he intended to rob the home the night shawneeq was there. >> physical evidence linking the defendant to the crime was found on an outside window as well as the victim's shirt and a piece of gym equipment that was used in the murder. >> you know, this is the first thanksgiving that i'm won't have my daughter at

thanksgiving dinner. it's -- it's hard. it's real hard. >> wilson is already in jail in cape may county on separate charges in addition to the new murder charge he's charged with endangering the welfare of a child because shawneeq's son and nephew were also in that house during the killing. >> a crash in south jersey overnight is responsible for killing one person. and this was the scene along route 130 near the airport circle in pennsauken. police believe a car rear-ended a jeep and that set off a chain reaction crash involving two other vehicles. authorities have identified the victim as 70-year-old rocco lombardo of deptford. >> this is 31-year-old christopher cossel of pottstown. he's facing several charges tonight including aggravated assault stemming from a road rage shooting back in september. happened along route 100 in montgomery and berks county. detectives accuse him of trying to run another car off the road and then firing a shot at the vehicle. no one was hurt.

cossel is currently behind bars tonight. >> turning to our weather, pretty nice way to end the work week but overnight, temperatures will drop and usher in some pretty chilly weather. meteorologist cecily tynan at the "action news" big board with the latest from accuweather. hi, cecily. >> hi, monica. nice to see the sunshine after yesterday's clouds. temperatures a lot cooler than yesterday. yesterday the high 60 degrees. today we're at 49 degrees. winds not as strong as yesterday but there's still a bit of a breeze out of the west-northwest. so, for your friday night, if you're stepping out, a november chill is in the air. partly cloudy skies, temperatures will be hovering in the low 40's right through the evening hours. overnight low dropping down to 36 degrees and we will see increasing clouds as we head through the morning tomorrow. now, double scan live showing the system i'm tracking that will bring us two rounds of rain is low pressure, it's moving out of colorado and what this has, first it has a warm front with it. that moves through tomorrow afternoon. then there's a cold front, that cold front will move

hey, matt. >> happy friday, rick and monica. get ready for some red as you head home check out the travel times. speeds we are in the red across-the-board. 42 minutes on the northbound side of 95 and it all started with this, a crash northbound here by bridge street that's now off to the side. you can see it there. but for awhile it was blocking three of the four lanes. that northbound travel time is three times what it should be although 42 minutes is a lot better than the hour and 20 minutes we saw earlier on. so, we are improving but it's still a really slow go on 95 northbound that spills back onto the vine street expressway. solid line of traffic eastbound across town from the schuylkill out to 95 and of course those delays spill back onto the schuylkill itself. but at least our westbound truck accident on 76 near montgomery has cleared. however, still have that one westbound by conshohocken on the shoulder that's attracting some attention so speeds in general on the schuylkill also in the red, 6 miles per hour westbound there by south street. this is 42 in gloucester city

only in the 40's but high pressure will be in control. so, what this means, it will be dry, no rain, winds will be light and rick, you know, this is important we need the light winds for the balloons so the balloons for the parade are a go. right now it's looking really nice. so, right now, just a chill in the air. good amount of sunshine today. but temperatures stuck in the 40's. 45 degrees in philadelphia currently. allentown 42. millville down to 37 degrees. trenton 47 and wilmington currently 40 degrees. satellite and radar showing that we're clear right now but we do have some clouds that are beginning to advance from the west. there's a system that will be pulling in. first we get a warm front tomorrow afternoon. then we get a cold front very early on sunday morning. so, tonight just partly cloudy. winds diminish but it is going to be chilly tonight. 35 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 27. cape may 35. and wilmington 33. so, future tracker timing it out. 8 o'clock in the morning, we're dry but we do have a a lot of clouds.

as we head into the afternoon, this is when that warm front approaches. so, this will bring us some showers by about 3:30, especially south and west of philadelphia. the temple game, some showers moving in towards the end of the game. then we get a bit of a break in the academics saturday evening but then the wee hours of the morning on sunday, this is when the cold front pushes in and this could actually have some heavier downpours, maybe even a rumble of thunder. at this point looks like it should be pushing off the coast. by 7:30 philadelphia marathon is sunday morning but if the front is a little bit slower, there could be a lingering shower. so, running down all the races this weekend, a lot going on. the half marathon saturday morning it will be chilly, 39 degrees, mostly cloudy, a bit on the breezy side, temperatures in the 40's for the rothman 8k. sunday morning, temperatures not bad. 50 degrees but the winds will be gusting up to about 40 miles per hour. it will feel more like 40 degrees, again could have a lingering shower early. a good idea on sunday if you're returning the marathon

>> ♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> ♪ >> hello again. here's what's happening on "action news" friday night. the search is on for the cause of a fire that devastated a west chester senior home. tonight officials are still trying to account for all of the residents and we're live with the latest on the investigation. also president trump speaks out on sexual assault allegations against senator al franken but stays silent on accusations against a republican senate candidate. and new research about a surprising benefit of owning a dog. >> now the details. breaking news from west chester where investigators say they are still trying to account for all the residents of a west chester senior home that went up in flames late last night. a short time ago officials held a news conference but had no information about whether there are any fatalities. they are still cross referencing the list of residents with the list of people accounted for. here's what we do know.

27 people were injured. 17 are still hospitalized. that fire broke out about 11:00 p.m. last night at the barclay friends senior living community. it quickly spread to other buildings in the complex going to five alarms before crews were finally able to get it under control. a heartbreaking scene as elderly folks were evacuated, many in wheelchairs, some of them still in their beds. and people who live near the facility came out to try to help. >> tons of people have come out to help, tons. all of the neighbors are really coming out to try to do were they can. >> it's scary. i mean, there's a lot of people that really need help and they're all out in the street and they need to be kept warm. >> well, the fire is still burning so investigators have not been able yet to get in the building trying to begin pinpointing a cause. >> and as part of the investigation officials will certainly take a look at whether there were smoke detectors or a functional

sprinkler system in the facility. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live in west chester with that part of our coverage tonight. chad. >> reporter: rick, we learned this facility had been cited for fire safety violations in recent years. nursing facilities like this are required to have fire suppression systems to prevent fires like this. so, the question is, what happened? "action news" reviewed annual building inspection reports by the pennsylvania department of health. we found barclay friends was cited in february for failing to seal ceiling openings that could spread flames. last year, inspectors found the facility failed to maintain doors to resist smoke passage and in 2015, barclay was cited for failing to maintain the sprinkler system. inspection reports indicated the facility quickly corrected the violations. but a critical question is why did the fire go to five alarms and why didn't fire suppression systems prevent the scope of the fire.

officials didn't have answers at a press briefing this afternoon. >> it is still an ongoing investigation so and i can't speak to that specifically. >> reporter: fire officials were not at the briefing but atf, alcohol tobacco and firearms as well as the chester county fire marshals office will be leading this investigation. so far, they haven't determined cause or origin, they'll know more once they're able to investigate the scene. >> we've also activated the national response team so this is a specialized team of about 25 folks that are -- in transit to the city now to the town now. they'll be getting into the town this evening. we'll do our first briefing in the morning with them. >> reporter: and i've made repeated calls to a spokeswoman for barclay friends. my phone calls have not been returned. i'm live in west chester, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> all right, chad thank you. of course you can see more video from the scene of the fire from chopper6 and the

frankenstein picture is really bad. speaks a thousands words. where do this hands go in pictures two, three, four, five and six while she sleeps and to think that just last week he was lecturing anyone who would listen about that sexual harassment and respect for women. >> should roy moore resign mr. president. >> reporter: but the president has been largely silent as allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault involving teenaged girls in the 1970's have mounted against alabama republican senate candidate roy moore. and unlike many other republicans, mr. trump has not retracted his endorsement of moore. on fox news, kellyanne conway defended the differences in how trump has responded. >> the roy moore story is eight days old and the president put out a statement during his asian trip on that and since then our press secretary has spoken on behalf of the president by saying that he believes the people of alabama will sort out what to do with roy moore and with that election. >> reporter: but that conflicts with what president trump said himself telling

reporters in asia that he would address the moore issue when he returned to the u.s. his move taking on franken brings the president own troubles back to light, this now infamous access hollywood tape. >> and when you're a star they let you do it. you can do anything. >> whatever you want. >> grab them by the (bleep). >> reporter: accusations by more than 10 women accusing president trump of sexual misconduct. >> total fabrication. all of these liars will be sued. >> reporter: and president trump never sued his accusers but one of them sommer server is now suing president trump in federal court for libel. reporting live from washington, janai norman channel6 "action news." >> jenae thank you. meantime, the wife of embattled alabama senate candidate roy moore spoke to the media today and promised that her husband will not quit the race. kayla moore said her husband has always been a gentleman. roy moore is accused of sexually assaulting young

women years ago but today his wife blamed the media and said the story is just not true. >> so, let me set the record straight. even after all the attacks against me, against my family, against the foundation and now against my husband, he will not step down. [cheers and applause] >> several women have come forward in recent weeks saying moore had sexual contact with them when they were teenagers. he denies the accusations. >> hunger problem in america was highlighted today in philadelphia. representatives from hunger free america announced their latest report on food insecurity here at the shop rite in tioga-nicetown. they talked about the need for leaders in congress to reject the proposed tax reform that they say would make more than $190 billion in cuts to federal nutrition assistance programs. they say those cuts would make a bad problem even worse. >> one in 10 working people, one in 10 working people can't

afford enough food. nationwide weary leasing a national study today that shows 15 million people in america are working but can't afford enough food. >> philadelphia continues to have one of the highest big city poverty rates in the nation. >> time now for another update on the commute home for your friday night. >> over to matt pelman again to see what's rolling and what's not. hey, matt. >> by now sun is down and speeds are way down. as we look live here in tell company, rick and monica, 95 southbound side it's dark and we're seeing a lot of brake lights heading up heading southbound from past the airport on down to the blue route. that's because on the northbound side of the blue route at macdade, so just north of 95, there's an accident partially blocking the roadway. so, blue route is jammed. those delays are spilling back onto 95 here in delaware county. so, this is the southbound side. you can see the northbound travel time is even worse. that's because the northbound side of 95 starts to jam right at the girard point double decker bridge and that delay extends the whole way north to

bridge street in the northeast. that's because of that earlier crash that's now completely gone but damage is done. those big 95 northbound delays with single digit speeds continue to spill back onto the vine street expressway looking at it live it's jammed solid eastbound across town the whole way from the schuylkill out to 95 and those delays spill back onto the schuylkill as well. in our infamous triangle of slowness extra problems this evening here along the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound between valley forge and norristown. it's a crash now gone but extra slow and the other portions of the triangle the schuylkill and blue route are also jammed up as you can see. and this is 295 in mount laurel burlington county. a new crash here on the northbound side right around 73 taking out the left lane so now we're delayed in both directions along 295. also have a few regional rail delays this afternoon and don't forget the west trenton line is shuttle busing again this weekend on the northern chunk. but have a good weekend, rick and monica. >> you do the same. >> thank. >> matt thank you again. still to come on "action

is the investigation into last night's catastrophic fire that chased 160 people into the cold night air. we have got "action news" reporters bob brooks and vernon odom on this story tonight. bob, let's begin with you at the burned out hull of the structure on the 700 block of north franklin street. first thing we need to know, has everybody been accounted for? >> reporter: well, jim, good evening. the answer to that unfortunately is no. everyone is not accounted for. and when we asked officials at a news conference earlier today has anyone been killed they couldn't give us a straight answer. behind me you see the work continues out here to make sure these flames do not reignite. without the help of neighbors aiding first responders many more likely would have been injured. it was a blaze so big, so hot that it still smoldering today. the barclay friends senior living communities went up in flames before 10:30 last night and then the mission to save
