>> i'm devin dwyer. thanks for joining us. we begin with the major cleanup effort under way in los angeles on the campus of ucla. a 90-year-old water main burst under sunset boulevard shooting a geyser three stories in the air and streets were overrun and the school's renovated pauley pavilion flooded. >> some 10 million gallons of water were wasted. abc's kirk hawkins has the latest. >> how close that is to the campus. >> reporter: in this video you can see the massive water main break that shut down streets near the campus of ucla in l.a.'s westwood neighborhood on tuesday afternoon. >> i didn't really know how bad it was until i saw it myself. >> reporter: three drivers were rescued from several cars that were stuck with water flowing as high as the windows. a bus, several cars and students attempted to 1/2 congratulate the fast-moving water. >> it's pretty horrible. i've just been finding out about the water issues that l.a. has

eraneso do business in russiament a scare at the phoenix airport after a smooth landing. a skywest airlines jet from albuquerque touched down safely but as it was taxiing an indicator light in the cockpit showed smoke on board. more than 60 passengers were evacuated to the tarmac. the little girl hit by a plane on the beach has died. oceana passed away after a pilot crash landed along the shore killing her father instantly. ommy irizarry was celebrating his anniversary with his wife and kids. the pilot apologized through his pastor and also said he didn't see anyone on the beach. and there was another emergency landing in florida. this time a pilot landed his cessna on miami beach but no one was hurt. and there was no visible damage to the plane. the air force is

investigating a significant security breach. the body of a young stowaway was found in the wheel well of a giant c-130 cargo plane that landed in germany. the boy's body was found sunday night. officials say he may have climbed aboard when the jet made a stop in mali. in california, crews gaining an upper hand now against that fire near yosemite national park. it had threatened a grove of ancient sequoias and sent smoke into the park. 33% contained. they're helped by helicopters carrying water. half of the nearby residents are going home. president obama is in the midwest where he made a surprise visit to a famous kansas city rib joint. mr. obama sauntered up to the counter at arthur bryant's and ordered a half slab of ribs, slaw, and a beer and sat down with four americans who wrote himmlers about their personal financial situations.

welcome back. new, mixed results from a tough insurance industry crash test. first only one out of a dozen h cars, the mini cooper earned a good rating. researchers say safety belts and air bags work well to keep passengers safe. the electric powered chevy volt earns an acceptable rating. its visital, the nissan leaf got a poor rating. general motors is facing a new lawsuit this morning over its faulty ignition switches. it was filed in new york on behalf of nearly 650 people allegedly killed or injured in accidents involving the cars. those cars recalled this year because of the problem.

now for a look at the morning road conditions. drivers will face wet roads stretching from the great lakes into the ohio valley and in south florida. and flooding conditions will blanket a wide swath of the west from texas into idaho. if you're flying today, airport delays possible in denver, salt lake city and miami. and back to the news now, the case of a new hampshire teenager who returned home after vanishing nine months before. >> the man charged withkidn kidnapping abigail hernandez is being held on a $1 million bail.

nathaniel kibby's house is an active crime scene. they try to figure out if she was there all along. a florida mom is vowing to fight charges she was neglectful for letting her son walk to the park alone. nicole ganey was arrested by the port st. lucie police after they saw her 7-year-old son at the park. an officer wrote that the child was unsupervised in an area where many sex offenders live. the park is a 10 to 15-minute walk from his home and her son had a cell phone. here's a tough day that only got worse. that kid leans on his mustang while a texas cop wroting speeding ticket. that's when a pickup truck sideswipes the car after being distracted by a spilled soda. he was cited for several violation, as well. two indiana women likely will face criminal charges after this close call on the railroad tracks captured on camera with the conductor slamming on the

brakes and blowing the horn. they dove beneath the train managing to survive by laying down between the rails as a train passed over them. the space only about 10 inches high. the video was released by advocacy groups trying to warn people about the dangers of trespassing on train tracks. another shocking sight. this one caught on camera in virginia. a bus driver caught using his ipad behind the wheel. the bus was taking families to kings dominion when a passenger spotted the driver with a tablet in hand. he could be seen taking his eyes off the road and taking his hands off the steering wheel to fiddle with the screen. tomming our health headlines this morning, a stern warning from the surgeon general about skin and sun. with skin cancer on the rise he's urging americans to reduce indoor tanning and use one ounce of sunscreen for every two hours outside. his call to action, an effort to prevent some of the nearly 5 million cases of skin cancer in the u.s. every year.
