>> ♪ >> only on "action news" cams are are rolling as a crowd discovers a six week old baby left alone in aot car. >> the u.s. ban on flights to israel continues as mideast clashes shows no signs of easing up. >> accuweather is tracking a midweek spike in the heat and the humidity that could trigger a rnd of the humidity that could day. >> but first up the latest on our breaking story coming to us from downtown center city. you're taking a liv look here on the action cam. the sheraton hotel has been evacuated. you see all the visitors and guest out on the street. it's an emergency action because investigators say smoke started coming out of the basement and perhaps it was caused by malfunctioning electrical breakers but they got everybody out of their rooms and out onto the streets. now there are no reports of injuries and we're told that ews are setting up fans to clear that air out right now. stay with "action news" and 6abc.com for updates.

not the way you want to wake up if you're in for a convention. >> i asked for a wakeup call but not that. >> glad everybody is okay. let's go over to david and matt pelman in for karen taking a look at weather and traffic. >> all right a, everybody, on the big board we have satellite showing you a lack of real significant cloud thver this morning so i think ere will be a lot of sunshine early. we have our eyes on this area precipitation. this is a line of showers and eventual thunderstorms being triggered by an approaching front. that front igoing to slowly push this rain in our direction and late this afternoon the northern and western suburbs probably start picking up some showers and thunderstorms. in philadelphia we may have to wait until the evening before we see that and over by the shore perhaps after midnight. so it will be a slow mover as it drops through. 72 right now in philadelphia, dry. 71 in wilmington, 70 in allentown. the problem of course is that it is very muggy. you start d to feel the humidity go up yesterday and right now we've got dewpoints from the mid 60's up close to 70 and once you start getting close to 70 that's more what we consider oppressive humidity and this is pretty sticky up in philadelphia. so, you do feel that.

heading out the door this morning, well, between:00 any and 8:00 looks like we'll go from the mid to low 70's, muggy with hazy sunshine building. this afternoon will be a hot one. we'll go up to a high of 93 even by 6:00 we're still holding close to that 89 and of course we're on the lookout for those evening storms. this all clears out of here fairly quickly though and we'll have that chan coming up in the accuweather 7-day. matt. >> definitely a sticky situation out there this morning. not a lost sticky situations on the roadways, though, luckily, david. as we look live at the roosevelt boulevard here by broad street, yesterday morning we had big problems about this hour on the southbound side up ahead. this morning, though, everything is nice and clear along route 1. it's dry, the volume's light traffic's moving well. same situation along 95 and the schuylkill expressway. no problems to report so far. there was a vehicle that broke down in towamencin township montgomery county along sumneytown pike but that's out of the way now. still a couple work zones on the northbound northeast extension.

one is north of lansdale taking out the right lane and north of quakertown they block the right lane again. east west turnpike westbound at bensalem cleared. in burlington county on the new jersey turnpike southbound near exit six watch out for construction taking out one lane throughout the day today. tam. >> okay, will do. thank you matt. a mother is in some hot water with philadelphia police for leaving her baby in a hot car. only "action news" has video of the moment a concerned crowd rushed to that child's rescue. aings news reporter katherine scott is live outside of special victims unit with more on this ongoing investigation and that exclusive video. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and in that video you can hear people talking about breaking out the car windows in order to get to that baby boy. investigators are now consulting with the district attorney's office to try to determine what charges will be filed against this mother. let's go to that exclusive video obtained by "action news." it's cell phone video that an "action news" viewer shot after she noticed the commotion in the parking lot. it happened around 6:30 monday

evening outside the wal-mart on franklin mills boulevard. you can see people gathering looking around after a six week old boy had been left in a silver 2005 toyota highlander. witness described how people were getting anxious for the baby's well being of after a few minutes a police officer arrived. that was around the same time as the child's 35-year-old mother emerged from the wal-mart. she was handcuffed and taken into custody. the officer got the keys to the car. firefighters and paramedics were on the scene and they took that baby out of the car. >> makes no sense whatsoever 'cause there's never any reason to leave a child in the car. not only just the heat but god for bid there was a car accident, if the car was hit, anything could have happened. the child could have been, you know, stolen out of the car. anything could have went wrong. >> reporter: at this point it's unclear how long that baby was left in the car. he was taken to saint christopher's hospital to be checked out. he's doing okay. he was placed in his father's custody. again, no word on what charges

will be filed. we're live at special victims unit, katherine scott chacks. >> all right, katherine thank you for that. new this morning, police respond to a late night shooting in west philadelphia. officers found the victim lying in the 4900 block of west thompson street next to a mountain bike. the 41-year-old man is in critical condition with gun shots to his head face and chest. a potential suspect was spotd in a dark colored vehicle. ly officials are reviewing surveillance on the block hoping to get a better look at the shooter. 5:35 now and israel is asking the u.s. and europe to let flights resume into the country but for now that's not happening amid concerns about security and possible violence. airlines canceled their flights yesterday after a rocket fired from gaza landd in a residential area about a mile what weigh from ben gurion airport in tel aviv. the sterns in upper dublin are following this news very closely. their 15 year old son ben is is a camp in the northern part of the country. they're getting a lot of text

messages from him indicating he's fine. they understand why airlines have canceled their flights but they say they're confident that such flights are indeed safe. >> god forbid could that be my son's flight but again i have the utmost faith in israel that they are not going to let anything like that happen. >> benjamin will be coming home soon on a nonu.s. carrier >> the bodies from malaysia flight 17 are now heading to netherlands. a ceremony took place in an airport in ukraine this morning before the plane flew to netherlands. investigators in netherlands will undertake the difficult job of identifying the bodies and getting those bodies to their loved ones. international inspectors have told abc news that the wreckage of the plane shot down by a missile over ukraine has been significantly altered. those officials say they have seen local workers cutting away at debris. the tampering could make it much more difficult to pinpoint blame. will continue our coverage of both the downed plane investigation and the crisis in the middle east. that's coming up at 7:00 a.m. right after "action news." >> happening today, the speed limit is going up on a stretch of the pennsylvania turnpike. drivers can now go up to 70 miles an hour between the blue mountains and morgantown interchanges. the rest of the highway will maintain the 65 miles an hour speed limit. officials say they want to bring the turnpike up to speed with other major roads in the state where 70 miles an hour zones are becoming more common. >> honestly most people were doing 70 anyway. not me. >> yeah. >> which doesn't mean that you can now go 80. >> exactly. >> some people thing that way. storm tracker 6 live double scan right now and we're dry to start out the morning commute as we take a look outside we've got sky 6 and looks like there's a little bit of leftover cloud cover above but i expect plenty of sunshine to come up over the horizon. yesterday we began a flew feature during our full weather forecast on "action news" in the morning. we're bringing in for those of you with hdtv a preview of the seven day, we call it the seven day always on and we'll look at the main forecast

together with more detail in about 90 seconds but that's a little eyeball feature for you in the morning now. temperature 72 degrees in philadelphia, dewpoint is 64. so, it does feel humid out there. anything over 60 indicates humid air. in terms of precip today, during the morning we'll see some sunshine, then cloud cover gathers and after about 2 or 3 o'clock in the northern and western suburbs there is the chance of some spotty showers and thunderstorms, some of this might even get closer to philadelphia during the early evening hours. then we get into the later evening and it does look like some of this fires up again up to the north and west and then comes into the city. any storms that form later tonight could featre gusty wis, downpours, lots of lightning and maybe not severe characteristic storms but damaging enough and strong enough for you that you wants to take cover. if you're at the shore or south jersey you probable have to wait until midnigh for most of this to p down in your direction. temperatures today will climb. 74 by 8 o'clock, up to 90 as soon as 2 o'clock looking for a high of

93 degrees in philadelphia probably around 3:3 and along with tt comes the high humidity and heat indexes that cou be up close to 100 degrees a times this rs like n particularly in city. high temperatures, well, tting up to 90 in allentown, 92 in trenton, 91 in reading. about the only relief is down the shore a endvenhere you're in the mid 80's with high humidit again those storms late starting north and west of philadelphia and winding up down the shore later tonight. for the phillies tonight 7:05 start, giants and the phils squaring off at citizens bank park. 86 degrees and humid for the first pitch, 79 in the ninth inning and there could be a thunderstorm i would think later in the game would be the best chance but something that might delay things. we'll see. i do think they get the game in tonight, though. and then tomorrow some additional instability in the morning, maybe a lingering thunderstorm but it all gets on out of here after that. and things do improve during the day tomorrow with the return of some sunshine. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast going for a high of 93 today, humid, late thunderstorms in the northern
