>> ♪ >> developing now on "action news," philadelphia police hope to act quickly now that a person of interest is being questioned about a gruesome murder. >> new this morning, a woman faces jaw dropping allegations of abuse against her own child. she is now behind bars with another baby on the way. >> storm tracker 6 shows rain moving through the southern half of the region but fortunately accuweather is calling for those skies to slowly clear up today. calling for those skies to wednesday. david is off, karen is here along with matt. good morning. >> good morning. we want to get right to storm tracker 6 live double scan which has been busy the past couple days. tell you exactly where the rain and showers r right now we're looking live. we've got an update for you. we're looking at one lightning strike. i warned you i thought we might see this develop here. dry in philadelphia but especially south and east of the city we still have this rain and it's coming down pretty good. this is fortescue, this is millville along route 49, i'll circle that for you, right along route 49. route 55 is right here. look at mays landing.

you can see where you're getting areas of red and yellow, very heavy downpours, through hammonton as well. this is slowly moving to the east-northeast about to hit hammonton and the expressway. medford lakes getting wet. a rider showing you the front still out to our west so at any pointer we could see some showers or as we're seeing in south jersey even a thunderstorm but i think this is all exiting the coastline. philadelphia will likely stay pretty dry through the morning hours and it's just going to hug the coastline over the next few hours but we're dealing with lots of clouds. it still feels oppressively humid. 74 degrees in philadelphia. it's a day of transition. things get a lot better by this afternoon. by 9:00 a.m., 75 degrees, we're dry in philadelphia at that point, just some clouds. by noon 81, we should be dry everywhere. lowering humidity by 3:00 p.m., 85 feeling pretty good. by 6:00 p.m. 83 degrees. so, only the first half of the day wet and cloudy, matt. >> okay, i bet that storm tracker 6 is ready for a little break. and you probably are, too. good morning to you, karen

rogers. we're getting a break now on the boulevard. our crash and downed pole northbound at grant avenue close to chapman ford is now completely out of the way. 33 just reopened the outer drive within the last five or 10 minutes so both outer and inner drivers available to you as you head northbound on route 1 up toward bensalem this morning. but not so far away in lower moreland we're dealing with a downed pole from an earlier crash closing byberry road between buck and pine roads. county line up top or tomlinson to the south work as alternates. in lower providence our downed tree has been turned into sawdust. park avenue completely reopened. earlier crash on 422 is gone and here's what it looks like as we look live by route 23. eastbound go the taillights toward valley forge and king of prussia moving fine with no delays so far this morning. but out here along 130 in south jersey watch out for some construction for another half hour southbound direction between church road and route 70. two lanes remain blocked. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. developing right now, philadelphia police say

charges could be filed as early as today in the murder of a young woman found stuffed in a duffle bag. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in mantua. she's got an update on the case. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and as police continue to question that person of interest, homicide detectives are waiting for a search warrant. they want to see if they can locate any evidence and they're continuing to look for the murder scene. you can see there are officers posted outside of this apartment building here in mantua as they await that warrant. 23-year-old laura araujo and the person of interest in her murder lived at this same apartment building at 40th and brown. a araujo was a recent graduate of the art institute of philadelphia. she was born and raised in new york city. araujo was found monday morning in kensington. she was beaten, strangled and stuffed into a duffle bag. homicide detectives say her hands and feet had been bound. she was placed in a trash bag, then wrapped in a blanket before being put in that

duffle bag. she had been dead four to eight hours before slaw found according to investigators. a few weeks ago she had moved out of a home on eighth and diamond where she had lived with two roommates and she had been looking for more permanent housing. araujo's parents have arrived in town and are searching for answers. >> she was religious individual and very methodological, very selective with the type of friends and the people she related to. most of the time most of her friends were related to church and people she know and trust well. >> reporter: and investigators believe araujo's murderer set her rav4 on fire to cover his tracks and left the vehicle on bambrye in south philadelphia. "action news" has learned the 23-year-old person of interhad burns all over his body. the name that of person of interhas not been released but again we could expect charges as early as today. we are live in mantua, katherine scott, channel 6

"action news". >> thank you, katherine. new this morning a south jersey father faces charges for a disturbing discovery made at a camden day care. police say 25-year-old rakim williams tried to hide a fully loaded stolen handgun in his daughter's diaper bag. a worker at the el centro day care recovered the weapon yesterday morning. in another part of camden the fbi dug into its investigation into a decade old cold case murder. crews on the 300 block of eerie street came in with a backhoe, a dump truck and jackhammers. neighbors say the search was focusing on the basement of a home there but the fbi will not say what, if anything, they have found. the area had been a hot bed for drug activity until a massive police crackdown back in november. and new this morning, a local mother who is about to give birth is now behind bars charged with the murder of her 11-month-old son. horrendous news coming out of reading. investigator say this young mother became frustrated with her infant's crying and while violently trying to get him to settle down injured him so badly he died days later. 20 year old myra smith is behind bars charged with third degree murder for the death of her 11 month old son jeremiah rivera. police say back in may first responders were dispatched to a home in reading where they found little jeremiah unresponsive. the alleged abuse occurred a few days earlier. court documents say smith admited to forcefully grabbing her son off the floor and squeezing him near his stomach when he wouldn't stop crying. and smith is eight months pregnant and is now behind bars on $750,000 bail. investigators say they will seek justice for her little boy. tam. >> hard story. thank you, erin. developing out of the middle east israel has hit the gaza strip hard today with air strikes after hamas rejected

an egyptian ceasefire proposal. in gaza the israeli military warned about 100,000 palestinians to clear out that more attacks are imminent. the message was delivered using automated calls and text messages. it's not clear where the residents can go. the un shelters are full. health officials in gaza say israeli bombs have killed almost 200 civilians. one israeli has been killed by a palestinian mortar. the obama administration says israel has a right to defend itself. actually producing some lightning recently as well. some very heavy rainfall. this is millville. this heavy rain has pushed into mays landing right here so it's still on route 49 getting pretty wet along 55. route 40 in mays landing you're just getting hammered. atlantic city expressway and had a hammonton you're about the to get hit harder with this. it's slowly lifting up to the north and east right there. all right, let's take you outside and show you what it looks like and we're looking better in philadelphia, still lots of clouds, it's oppressively humid. this front still hasn't cleared us but at least it's not raining like it is south and east of the city and you can see the cloud cover up above at philadelphia international airport. how about those numbers? it's 73 degrees right now in philadelphia. 69 in allentown. 72 in millville. so, still warm. it's not going to be as hot as yesterday. satellite 6 and action radar showing here's the back edge of that front. it still hasn't crossed the arealy we still have the cloud cover and you can see how some rain and showers are moving through. most of it is going to be

south and east of the city and this is just through the morning hours. so we've got future tracker 6. a great tool to show you what it's going to look like. at nine:30 in the morning still a good amount of cloud cover in the i-95 corridor. you're getting more sunshine in the lehigh valley. but we have these showers to the city. you can see it's depending on where you live as to what you're getting. this front will clear from west to east and that's where things are going to gradually improve. by 2 o'clock it's only the coastline that's left with some showers and cloud cover. the rest of us are looking good and feeling better with lowering humidity. so, if you're at the shore today, you know you got wait a little while before you get the improved situation. so, some late sunshine. by 11:00 a.m., 78. got to watch for that rain. by 3:00 p.m., 81 degrees and you should be drier by 3:00 p.m. as well. let's look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. clouds early and some showers especially south and east of the city. then we see sunshine and lowering humidity this afternoon. 85 degrees for your high. tomorrow's just refreshing. we've got a little light breeze, low humidity, partly

of the day yesterday. karen. >> a minute ago i was showing you a close up view of this thunderstorm we're getting here in south jersey and i just want d to show you the wider view to say that philadelphia is dry right now. you can see south and east of the city is where we are especially seeing that rain and likely for the next several hours and you can see these lightning strikes now seven lightning strikes happening with this storm system. let's take a look at your day ahead to help you plan this. transit planner, whatever else you're doing today, by 9:00 a.m., 75 degrees. lots of cloud cover and rain south and east of the city by 9:00 a.m. noon 81, dry with a fair amount of clouds and sunshine. by 3:00 p.m. the afternoon is much different. 85 degrees, that's your high. going to be lower humidity so starting to feel better and by 6:00 p.m. 83 degrees with sunshine and clouds. wait until the afternoon tam. >> will do. thank karen. new video just in showing the flash flooding that swamped parts of idaho. a slow moving thunderstorm dumped heavy rain and hail. roads looked more like rivers causing problems for drivers.
