>> a slip of the foot turns into a trip to the hospital for a man in philadelphia overnight. >> a delaware county teen has an amazing story of survival after he was struck by lightning in monday's storms. >> let's talk about today's forecast. getting betterment karen is filling in for david and matt is following traffic. good morning. >> good morning. we just have to get through the first half of the day where we're stuck with a lot of cloud cover, still pretty high humidity and as you can see with storm tracker 6 live double scan still dealing with some rain in the area, mostly south and east of the city of philadelphia and that's really where we had this one cell we've been tracking with double scan. it's left over but in fortescue, millville you're getting really good soaking rain at this point and it's moving pretty slowly to the east-northeast headed towards glassboro and hammonton, mays landing as well. if you're on the atlantic city, if you're on route 55 you're getting soaked right now and you're about to get more wet as that rain comes in. through hammonton and medford lakes getting the rain as well. something we're watching very

early on. satellite 6 and action radar slowing that in motion. here's the back edge that front. that front still hasn't crossed through the area. the first half of the day warm front clouds, early showers mostly south and east of the city of philadelphia. and then we look at the temperatures. right now sitting at 74 degrees so nudged up just a little bit. as you look at the day head by 9:00 a.m. about 75. still lots of cloud cover, hardly any sunshine. by noon some peeks of sunshine. we've got clouds and sun and 81. by 3:00 p.m. it feels less humid so things really change for us then and we're dry the afternoon, too. we've got just sun and clouds. by 6:00 p.m. 83 degrees coming down from your high of 85. so, a pretty nice afternoon ahead. we just have to deal with the morning cloud cover, humidity and some of that rain, matt. >> certainly not feeling different out there yet. it is really sticky us a step out the door this morning, karen rogers and we've got some sticky situations on the roadways like on the roosevelt boulevard action cam is on the scene of the northbound lanes where there was an overturned vehicle crash overnight.

the suv flipped over. suv's out of there now but the crash brought down a pole and so that's why they still have the northbound outer drive shut down here at good fall street. accident happened at grant avenue. stick with the inner drive. at this point there are no major delays in that inner drive on the boulevard northbound. also no big delays so far this morning along the schuylkill expressway or 95. southbound construction between allegheny and girard is out of there so no need to worry about that. here's 95 in delco. no construction to worry about here either by 420 traffic moving well in both directions. the roadway is drying out so looking better than it did during the overnighter hours. lower providence we had a crash on the eastbound side of 422 near trooper. that's gone but still watch out for a downed tree along south park avenue near falcon road. matt. >> will do. thank you, matt. philadelphia police may be close to making an arrest in the murder of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a duffle bag. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in the mantua section of the city with more on what is next with

this investigation. katherine. >> reporter: matt, police do have person of interest in custody but no charges have been filed yet. homicide detectives are waiting for a search warrant so they can go inside this address. they're continuing to search for a murder scene here. you can see that police have been posted outside this home as they await for the -- as they await the warrant. both the victim and the person of interest live in this apartment building. 23-year-old laura araujo and the person of interest in the murder lived at the same mantua apartment building at 40th and brown. she was a recent graduate of the art institute of philadelphia. she was born and raised in new york city. her parents have arrived to town and are searching for answers. >> she was a very special girl because her main goal in life was related to religion. >> reporter: araujo was found monday morning in kensington beaten strangled and stuffed into a duffle bag. homicide detectives say her

hands and feet had been bound. she was placed in a trash bag and wrapped in a blanket before being put into that duffle. a few weeks ago araujo moved out of a home on eighth and diamond where she had lived with two roommates. >> we know that she was looking for more long term housing and she was responding to ads about apartments in different sections of the city. investigators believe araujo's murderer set her toyota rav4 on fire and left the vehicle on bambr. ey in south philadelphia. "action news" has learned the 23-year-old person of interest has burns all over his body. he was picked up at crozer chester medical center. araujo's father says there have been no indication the last time he spoke to his daughter that anything had been wrong. >> she never talked about anything going on in her life. she never gave any signs of distress. >> reporter: and the name of that person of interest has not been released. we are hearing that charges could be filed as early as today.

we're live in mantua, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> katherine thank you for that. a man was rescued after falling into an uncovered hole in west philadelphia overnight. this happened around 1:30 in the morning on the 6100 block of vine street. the hole was part of a street construction there near the sidewalk. the man was rushed to the hospital with a back injury. he's in stable condition. a school police officer is being treater for injuries stemming from a hazmat incident at a philadelphia public school. emergency crews responded to arts academy at benjamin rush on the 11,000 block of knights road in the torresdale section at 7:15 last night in response to reports of a chemical fume coming from the basement. fire crews detector high readings of acid. it may have come from a broken air conditioner. no evacuations were necessary. it is 5:05 and happening today, philadelphia city officials will join the family of a fallen police officer to dedicate a mural in his

memory. the mural honors officers chuck cassidy. it will be unveiled at the penncrest gym in northeast philadelphia during a ceremony at 6 o'clock tonight. officer cassidy was a 25 year veterans of the force killed while responding to a robbery in 2007. his killer is on death row. >> doctors say the delaware county teenager who was struck by lightning this week is going to be fine. 14-year-old david bodkin paris was leaving his mother's glenolden home on monday night just as the storm unleashed dozens of lightning bolts in the area. one of them hit the teen just as he reached for a friend's car. >> i was just kind of like running and i heard it and then i was just shocked. i was shaking. and i was bleeding everywhere from right here just gushing blood. >> amazingly the teen was left with only a small wound on his arm. some involved in his treatment believe the soles on his sneakers saved him from injury. however, the national weather service says rubber on the bottom of shoes offers no protection from lightning,

just get out of the way, find shelter. >> absolutely. whatever happened we're glad that he's going to be okay and we're glad that this weather is finally moving out. >> that's why we hope people heed those warnings when we have severe thunderstorm warnings in effect because it really so dangerous at any point. right now we've got no threatening weather but still some downpours. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing where that's happening. this front she was slowly clearing the area, it hasn't left us yet. as expected we're seeing some of that rain especially south and east of the city. as we go in closer you can get a better view of this. it's left over at the moment. this cell looking in fortescue. millville getting a really good soaking right along route 49 headed towards route 55 you're getting really wet at this point. in hammonton along the a.c. expressway, showers up through medford lakes. no lightning with this at this point but watching that heavy rain as this front slowly crosses. let's head outside and show you what it looks like right now. we've got sky 6 looking live, lots of clouds above the peco building currently and no rain in philadelphia at the moment.

most of this is south and east of the city. 74 right now in philadelphia. that dewpoint 69. it's still oppressively humid. the winds are light but they've switched towards the west and the pressure is still falling. i want to show you the dewpoints through the area. we're still in the 70's in dover, in millville and atlantic city. that just means so much moisture in the air it's still oppressively humid. that hasn't changed yet. that's going to change later on this afternoon. satellite 6 and action radar showing here's that back edge of the front still hasn't left us. lots of clouds. no threatening weather at this point. no watches, no warnings or anything like that. but still some heavy rain in spots that we're seeing especially south and east of the city. and that's going to be just the case through the morning and future tracker 6 showing at 10 o'clock in the morning hugging the coastline maybe some showers at this point. you see the clouds at 10:00 a.m. trying to break philly and then we watch in the afternoon hours, we've got a good amount of sunshine. so, the afternoon is going to be a lot different than the morning hours for us right now. let's break this day down for you. by 9:00 a.m., lots of clouds

>> ♪ >> 5:13. things looking good at philadelphia international airport right now but if you're flying down to hartsfield-jackson in atlanta, thundershowers down there are causing delays for flights. >> let's go right over to matt pelman and take a look at what it looks like for commuters. good morning. >> it's looking a little dicey in a couple spots like here in northeast philadelphia where we have this downed pole from an overnight crash. the crash involved an overturned suv that took down the pole on the boulevard northbound side at grant avenue close to chapman ford. the outer drive is still blocked as you head northbound at goodnall, they're forcing you into the inner drive. at this point the volume is so light it's no big deal. you can get by on the inner drive without too much of a problem. hopefully they'll be able to problem. of before too long. that's the situation on the boulevard. now let's get suburban with

the suburban traffic report early on this hump day morning. here's route 1 in bucks county headed towards pennsylvania avenue and the trenton-morrisville bridge. we're drying out here along one as you can see. northbound go the taillights up toward mercer county. you can see no major problems as we head in that direction. so, that's route 1 in bucks county. let's talk about the situation in montgomery county where we still have a downed tree this morning from the storms last night in lower providence along south park avenue near falcon road. good news on 422 our crash there near trooper is out of the way. in chester county watch out for more midday road work. this is going on all week along 352 near wicker ton drive. dutton mill road a good alternate. overin camden along 130 southbound between church road and route 70 still construction there taking out a couple lanes until 6 o'clock. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. one of our friends in horsham says watch out it is still drizzling a little there along jasper drive. tam. >> thank you matt. firefighters are finally gaining ground against a

destructive wildfire in southern oregon. a shrift in the winds has forced the fire back on itself t the blaze destroyed six homes and 14 other buildings near spraying river. many of the 100 residents evacuated have been allowed to return home. lightning has been ruled out as a cause. the storm that hit this region last night made a real mess of things northeast of us. drivers spent hours trying to get across the george washington bridge and into new york city because several roads off of the bridge there in the city were flooded. a flash flood in the town of madison maine swept this car into a gull lee. high winds and lightning toppled dozens of trees in the state. this one in the town of albans crashed through a woman's roof. the storm left thousands of householdsly in maine without power. >> the all-star gameological a lot of local flavor. the phillies only all-star chase utley hi this double in the first inning to drive in a run for the national league and millville's mike trout was named the game's most valuable player.

their life expectancies are just as long as others in general population. a new method called telemedicine may help doctors treat patients with chronic pain. researchers at the va medical center in under miss enrolled 250 veterans with chronic pain in a year long stud deal. half received the usual care from their doctors the other half received help managing their pain and medications from nurses over the internet or on the phone. the patients who received the telemedicine approach saw their pain scores dropped and noted significant improvements in their pain. >> a fee that funds security screenings at airports across the country is going up. abc's devon dwyer has america's money. >> reporter: costing you more to fly. the september 11th security fee is going up as much as $22 depending on your ticket. the increase is being used to help reduce the deficit not improve security. in a big apology from comcast after this customer service call went viral yesterday. >> why is it that you don't want this faster speed? help
