storm tracker 6 live double scan radar will be scanning the chance for more storms later today. good morning everyone, 5:30 on this wednesday. tam is off, erin o'hearn joins us. david is here along with matt who is until for karen. good morning. >> we have breaks in the clouds across parts of the region. in extreme south jersey there are a couple showers popping through right now, no lightning with that currently and out to the west not a lot going on just yet but it will be warm, humid a bit unstable and through the afternoon in particular we'll be looking at a couple more spotty thunderstorms. 73 degrees in philadelphia right now, dry in the city. 65 in allentown. 67 in reading, 74 in wilmington and 73 in sea isle city and down the shore you have some of those morning showers for at least another hour or maybe a little more than that. 72 by 6:00 a.m., 76 by 8:00, partly cloudy and warm as you head out the door over the next several hours. and it stays warm and a bit sticky today. 79 degrees by 9 o'clock. 85 by noon. and then we're up close to 90 by 3 o'clock. that is your high of 89 today and then 85 by 6 o'clock.

again through the afternoon a spotty shower or a thunderstorm possible and matt some of those could be gusty. i'll have more on future tracker 6 and better weather ahead in the accuweather 7-day. >> good deal david. if we listen this morning we can hear the sounds of if we listen this morning we lots of downed trees and limbs from the storms last night. power problems giving us issues on septa's regional rail lines. chestnut hill east line still not running. chestnut hill west is running and luckily the fox chase line is now back to normal running the entirety of the route between fox chase and center city. little update on the 101 trolley. trolleys still are not running but shuttle buses are and now it's between scenic road and media. little correction over what we had earlier. scenic road to media is the length the buses are running. camera time along the schuylkill expressway near the roosevelt boulevard and the exit for lincoln and kelly drive, we've dried out along 76 looking phone. on the kelly drive those earlier traffic light troubles

at sedgley drive have been repaired so everything is back to normal on the drives this morning. also our crash in abington by the village cleaners along 611 at guernsey avenue cleared out. over in cherry hill still have the downed wires blocking covered bridge road. stick with pine valley road and in evesham township there's a downed tree and wires closing greentree road, 70 gets you around that blockage of the matt. >> thank you matt. we begin way developing story in atlantic city new jersey where neighbors say an armed man fired shots at police during a standoff overnight. swat teams first arounded the man at a home along the 600 block of elberon avenue. the barricade lasted an hour and a half when the man suddenly ran out the back door naked. police quickly took him into custody and center him to the hospital for an evaluation. no officers were hurt. local utilities continue their effort to restore power knocked out by a fast moving storm system. at last check, peco reported

92,700 outages, chester county has the most of those with 38,400. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in mount airy with a closer look at the damage. katherine. >> reporter: matt some of the residents around here lost power and are also dealing with quite a bit of damage as well. take a look behind me. you can see a section of this tree is lying across several cars here in this parking lot on the 300 block of east mount airy avenue. it just crushed these cars. we saw damage like this year and across the area last night >> a big gust of wind just came and then we seen this tree just tip over. this tree in wissinoming was no match for last night's storm. it uprooted and neighbors watched as it fell across the roadway on the 4500 block of mckinley street hitting the cars in its path down. in wilmington, the wind whipped through fourth street many people caught in the downpour hurried to get out of the rain or huddled beneath umbrellas.

in mount airy allen's lane was blocked off, a large tree came crashing down across the 500 block. its long branches reaching across the road. parkside avenue between 53rd and bryn mawr was also closed off. police on the scene after another tree crashed down there. drivers were being diverted. back here live in mount airy you can see when the tree came down it took down some lines with it. we did see some peco crews here earlier. they've been out across the area doing some work. you can see some of this tree has been sectioned off chopped up into firewood and so they have been here obviously. a lot more clean upin mount airy and across the area. live in mount airy katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> a young camper caught in a strong thunderstorm in maryland has died. a tree fell on a group of seven children in the river valley ranch in manchester while they were walking to a storm shelter last night.

>> four children died in the blaze. liberia's ambassador to the united states is in town to help the neighborhood heel. you will hear from him in our next half hour. >> the fate of a cigarette tax increase to fund philadelphia public schools remains uncertain this morning. the pennsylvania senate amended the bill and sent it back to the house. the measure now calls for the two dollars a pack hike to expire in five years. there are also new provisions for hotel taxes. the changes require house members to come back and vote on the new bill and it is unclear when that would happen. mayor michael nutter says without the tax increase, schools cannot afford to open on time. >> happening today, hundreds of casino workers are expected to fill the boardwalk to fight the closure of the showboat in atlantic city. 2100 jobs would be lost if the hotel closes next month. workers claim the showboats' owners caesar's want to close it down protect other

properties. new jersey osama bin laden man chris brown is proposing a bill that would place a limit on the amount of casinos a company would be allow ted to own in atlantic city. >> it's very floridian our weather around here. >> storm tracker 6 live double scan shows that you we have some showers down the shore this morning and as we take a closer look still not showing any lightning here and these showers are beginning to break apart so it might be damp down there in parts of south jersey for another 30 minutes perhaps but are you seeing some improvement. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies over philadelphia international airport and then some of our sky 6 cameras have been showing some breaks in the clouds this morning. the temperature 73 degrees currently in the city. your dewpoint still up there at 68, though. that's the second straight hour we've had that reading and that indicates fairly humid air. winds out of the southwest at 10 miles per hour and whenever you get that southwest wind you tend to bring up that more sticky gulf air. future tracker 6 between now and noon shows you we're basically dry, maybe a couple

other sprinkles and showers down at the shore. in the afternoon there's a chance of some more spotty showers and perhaps a couple gusty thunderstorms. i don't think as much of the region is avenged by that today but as we roll through the afternoon and evening you have to look out for a couple of these at least and if you hear that thunder you want to take cover indoors on the lower floors because again some of these might be of the gusty variety. we certainly were expecting that last night and we certainly got it. all right so today temperature-wise still warm, 76 degrees by 8 o'clock, 83 by 11 o'clock, 88 by 2 o'clock and i expect to hit that high of 89 more or less around 3 o'clock this afternoon. we'll be close to it by 5 o'clock. again some spotty thunderstorms here and there through the afternoon in particular and it will still feel rather humid out there today. high temperatures across the region, lots of us in the upper 80's, might even see a 90 or two across the region here or there and down the shore you're getting a break again with highs in the low to mid 80's down at the shore. tomorrow couple of little sprinkles and showers popping in and out of view, maybe a thunderstorm down by the shore in the afternoon but generally

speaking it will be drier, more settled. humidity lowering during the day. 89 degrees warm and humid today, a spotty gusty thunderstorm can't be ruled out. clouds and sun and mainly dry tomorrow, 86 with perhaps a shower around. and then the pick of the week is friday, nice and warm, a fair amount of sunshine and a high of 87 and it now looks like saturday is improving. nice and bright, a high of 87. probably not all that humid. and no rain. we're going to take the threat of a thunderstorm out of the forecast on saturday. that's good for the phillies at night and good for the union at night. it's 6abc night at p. pl park on saturday. warm and more humid sunday, 88 the high, perhaps a couple spotty late day thunderstorms. i don't. it's a washout. monday looks unsettled, 86, humid, clouds and sun and perhaps some strong thunderstorms are rolling through again on monday and then partly sunny on tuesday. okay. >> okay. thanks so much, david. 5:39 now. taking cover. panic strikes the streets of israel.

>> ♪ >> welcome back. it is 5:43. a beautiful shot through sky 6 of the ben franklin bridge. not so beautiful last night. we had some nasty storms move through the area and probably a few more on the way today. >> could see some, yeah. matt pelman you're still tracking some problems related to those storms yesterday. >> you got that right. you could still see some downed trees be downed wires, down tree limbs at least as you come out of the neighborhood this morning. so, you're treating it like an obstacle course and swerving around and dodging as you come out of the burbs this morning. let's chart in cherry hill where there are downed wires closing covered bridge road. pine valley road is an alternate around that. in evesham township greentree road which is a busy one is out of commission because of a downed tree and some downed wires, a combo pack there

blocking greentree road near brandywine drive. route 70 good alternate to get around that one. meanwhile here in delco providence road traffic light troubles along there, 252 at rose tree road. when the traffic lights are dark you got to treat it like a four-way stop and that construction project started a four-way stop and that closes providence road during the mid days between springfield road and lansdowne avenue there in upper darby by penn pines diner. in bryn mawr traffic lights out along 30 lancaster avenue between county line road and railroad avenue and out a little bit to the west in east town township and tredyffrin township chester county along 30 a new paving project starts tonight. long stretch of lancaster avenue between 252 and old eagle school road going to work to make it better but for now watch out for restrictions during the middays and the overnight hours through the ends of august. it's camera time. elsewhere in chester county this is the 30 bypass by 32 32. eastbound no big delays. roadways dry. off of this interchange at 30 and 322 they open the new park

online travel agency out of her home called the interest traveler. investigators say last year she sold at least eight people travel packages for an overseas trip called masterpiece classics of the english mid lands. then she told them the trips were canceled. >> they basically told them that they couldn't go, that the trip was canceled and that they would refund the money and the money was never refunded. >> hazelton faces theft and other charges. she has been released while she awaits a court hearing. philadelphia police are looking for a group of teenagers who might have been involved in the robbery of a cab driver. surveillance cameras captured seven teens inside a 7-eleven store shortly before the incident at 12th and filbert streets on saturday. one of the teenagers reportedly threw a water bottle at the driver's head. another teen then grabbed the cell phone of the driver. anyone with information should call 215-686-tips.

ford in southern chester county. low 70's closer to the i-95 corridor however. across the river in south jersey we're more on the 70's side of the picture. 72 minute sin son vineland woodbine and 70's from hockessin delaware down to dover as well. as you're rolling through the day, say you're running errands probably another one of those days where the morning is better than the afternoon. in the afternoon we'll not only be warmer with a high of eighty nine degrees and also somewhat humid, as we get into the afternoon there's the chance of a spotty gusty thunderstorm. not everybody sees it but it is a chance. erin. >> thanks, david. hang today, the release of a u.s. senate survey on sexual assaults at college campuses. the report surveyed 440 colleges and universities in the country. it found that one in five of the colleges surveyed does not provide faculty and staff with training on how to help victims of sexual assault. the survey also found that about one in three of the schools does not train students in thousand prevents
