us. >> those storms make us up. >> let's go to meteorologist, david murphy for the accuweather forecast. david. >> we did call for those storms last night. >> we did call for those point. you see the watch boxes to our west but a couple trees down locally. now we are looking at another unsettled day way cold front getting a little closer to us trying to push through and as that happens there could be more spotty but potentially strong storms through the day. 72 is the current temperature in philadelphia, 73 in wilmington, 72 in sea isle city right down in cape may county you have a couple of showers this morning but they're moving through pretty quickly. as we head out the door most of us are going to see partly cloudy skies. warm conditions, 72 by 6:00 and 76 degrees by 8:00 a.m. and as we roll through the days, it's another pretty warm fairly sticky one. 79 degrees by 9 o'clock, 85 by noon and then 89 by 3 o'clock, 85 by 6:00 and your high of 89 does strike at about 3 o'clock. through the afternoon hours there is that chance of a spotty pop-up shower or thunderstorm.

sunburn alert again today because when it isn't raining the u.v. index will be high. i'll have future tracker 6 showing you the outlay for the storms and better weather towards the end of the work week. matt. >> in atlantic city new jersey, neighbors say an armed man fired shots at police during a standoff overnight. swat teams first surrounded the man at a home along the 600 block of elberon avenue. the barricade lasted an hour and a half and then the man suddenly ran out the back door naked. police quickly took him into custody and center him to the hospital for an evaluation. no officers were hurt. homeowners will be cleaning up the damage this morning from some late night storms and as you heard, more ununsettled weather could be on the way today. katherine scott is knife mount airy to show us some of the storm damage there. good morning, katherineism good morning, matt. there's no power to some of these apartments nearby and some of the drivers are dealing with quite a bit of

damage this morning. take a look behind me. you can see a section of this tree just crushed several cars parked here in a lot on the 300 block of east mount airy avenue. it came down during the storm last night and we saw damage like this across the area. >> big gush of wind just came went seen this tree just tip over. this tree in wissinoming was no match for last night's storm. it uprooted as neighbors watched hitting the cars in its path down n wilmington, the wind whipped through fourth street. people caught in the downpour hurried to get out of the rain or huddled beneath umbrellas. in mount airy allen's lane was blocked off, a large tree came crashing down across the 500 block, its long branches reaching across the road. parkside avenue between 53'd and bryn mawr was also closed off, police on the scene after another tree crashed down there. drivers were being

southwest is still simmering. the city released 911 recordings to help detail the fire department's response time. officials are still asking for calm. "action news" reporter kenneth moton filed this story. >> tell me what happened out there. >> somebody couch on fire out on the porch. >> all right. someone is on the way. >> reporter: it's the first 911 fuel report. this man-made the report. do you think anything would have saved those children. >> honestly o to be honest i don't know. that fire was just so fast, it was just so chaotic. >> reporter: jeff boone who also lost his home said he grabbed a fire extinguisher but when it didn't work he ran around the corner to ladder four engine 40. >> by the time i got here they already start d to put their pants and everything on loading the trucks up. >> reporter: fire commissioner derrick sawyer gave a detailed time line of firefighters response. it was a move to squash rising

tensions in this community where so many believe firefighters took too long. >> that incident went from three houses to eight houses in 10 minutes so if that fire had been burning for 30 minutes like everyone said, the whole block would have burned down. >> reporter: the fire department says that first call came in at 2:44 suspect a.m. one minute eight seconds later the first engine was dispatched. less than one minute later a firefighter called for reinforcement. one minute 27 seconds later, ladder four arrived. nearly three minutes after the initial call. but residents say it wasn't equipped to handle the massive blaze. >> they did get on the block. they made sure everybody else was trying to get down towards the block and everybody was trying to get everybody out the houses i cannot deny them but as far as the first truck showing up and not having the water that's the main problem. >> reporter: the engine was at a car fire but arrived six minutes after the first 911 call. as for how long it took to get water on the fire, the city says that's under

investigation. >> these gentlemen, these women did what they could but to criticize this department is not fair, it's not the facts and that's what we're putting in front of you. >> reporter: several residents say this controversy surrounding the response is taking away from the fact that four children are dead families have lost their homes and we still don't know the cause of that fire. the city says this time line issue has hampered the ongoing investigation. reporting in southwest philadelphia, kenneth moton, channel 6 "action news." >> happening today, hundreds of casino workers are expected to fill the boardwalk to fight the closure of the showboat in atlantic city. 2100 jobs will be lost if the hotel closes next month. workers claim the showboat's owners caesar's want to close it down to protect other properties. new jersey assemblymen chris brown is proposing a bill that in part would place a limit on the amount of casinos that a company would be allowed to own in atlantic city.

philadelphia city and school officials waiting for the state legislature to finalize the cigarette tax are left frustrated again. the pennsylvania senate voted 43 to five to approve the hike but wants the tax to expire in five years. that change plus another measure on hotel tax center city forcing the bill to be sent back to the house for a second time. school superintendent dr. william hite says a five-year limit on the tax throws the schools back into uncertainty. mayor michael nutter says without the tax, the schools won't open on time. >> time for your first look at business. philadelphia hotels are seeing a steep drop in numbers this summer after a very strong first quarter. total room demand fell nearly 4% in may. now, experts tell the philadelphia business journal it is due to a lack of big conventions at the pennsylvania convention center. stocks slid for a second straight day on wall street on tuesday and stock futures are about mixed right now. people are buzzing about j

>> 4:43 now. it is wednesday morning. strong storms from yesterday and today could see more but not as powerful. >> they could be gusty in some spots, yeah. i don't know if they're quite the level of what we had last night but i would certainly take cover if you hear thunder today. we're looking at a little bit of shower activity down south and if we take a closer look most of this is over south jersey and delaware and i'll let this lapse. note there's no lightening this morning with any of this but we do have those showers fairly steady in atlantic county. the good news, they're not lasting that long, the heaviest stuff only takes probably about 10 or 15 minutes to get past you. as we take a look outside we have dry conditions everywhere else.

might still be a little bit damp on the roadways because of the overnight rain that occurred but i-95 is looking dry and that's a pretty morning view of the ben franklin bridge with that mix of clouds and some breaks in the clouds. temperature this morning is 72, a little better than it's been the last couple of mornings but note that the dewpoint is still pretty high at 68 so it still feels humid out there. winds out of the southwest at 11 miles per hour to start out. future tracker 6 showing us that between now and noon we're mainly dry. there could be a couple of sprinkles and showers around in the afternoon in particular though some more spotty storms are possible. i don't know that it's going to be that strong line that we saw come through last night. and that by the way is exactly what future tracker 6 shows showed you. here's the 3 o'clock view. we go into the evening and there's a few more not everywhere all at once but if you see a storm headed your way on your smartphone application or on 6abc.com or here on "action news" or you hear thunder take cover from it, okay? 76 by 8:00 a.m., 83

by 11:00 a.m. and the afternoon fairly warm and still on the humid side. 88 by 2 o'clock, 89 is your high probably around 3 o'clock and by 5 o'clock 87, again some spotty showers and spotty thunderstorms possible today. as we take a look at high temperatures across the region moisture of us are in the upper 80's, wilmington could hit 90. philadelphia has a shot as well. 90 in toms river and low 80's down the shore with those spotty afternoon storms. tomorrow there could be a little more action around most south and east of philadelphia and close to the coast and most just showering, maybe a thunderstorm popping up. that is tomorrow. but generally speaking tomorrow is going to feature lowering humidity and improving conditions. your seven-day, warm and humid today, a high of 89. some spotty storms possible. take cover if you hear thunder because a couple could be strong. clouds and sun tomorrow 86. i think it's going to be mainly dry but we have to allow for some spotty pop-up shower or maybe a thunderstorm as that front clears the coast. friday is the pick of the week, nice and warm, a high of

87 degrees. get your plans going. here's the improvement for the weekend. still looks nice and bright on saturday with no worse than partly sunny skies. 87 and we're going to remove the chance of a thunderstorm for saturday. that's good news for saturday night. not only is there a phillies game but we also have the 6abc union game right here on 6abc but it's our 6abc night at ppl park. and then warm and humid on sunday. there's the chance of a couple of spotty thunderstorms kicking back in. by monday we might be looking at some more strong storms so that's the next round that we're watching, okay. >> okay, thanks, david. >> yeah. >> one of jerry sandusky's adopted sons is sitting down with oprah to discuss the abuse he says he endured as a child. in the interview set to air next week, matt sandusky described methodical control and maps by his father. the son of the former penn state coach settled a civil claim against the university last year. matt sandusky was not part of the criminal case that sent his father to prison for 30 to 60 years. >> hang today the release of a

u.s. senate survey on sexual assaults at college campuses. the report surveyed 440 colleges and universities across the country. it found that one in five of the colleges surveyed does not provide faculty and staff with training on how to help victims of sexual assault. the survey also found that about one in three of the schools does not train students in how to preventer sexual assaults or what to do when an assault happens. a 2007 study commissioned by the u.s. justice department estimates one in five female college students is sexually assaulted. >> time now 4:47. locked out. a nationally celebrated dry drill team from south jersey says it has lost its practice facility. >> and the possibility of a lebron reunion with the cavaliers is blowing up the agency still remains a guessing game. the very

drying out in overnight construction 95 southbound by girard avenue is cleared. all lanes reopened which is good news. we've got a lot of traffic lights that are out around the region. one set here along the kelly drive at sedgley drive. they're out so treat that like a four-way stop and in burlington county if you're coming south on 295 speeds are in the mid 60's so not looking so bad but there is part of a downed tree taking out the right lane southbound near rancocas woods, delran. also in cherry hill some downed wires are closing covered bridge road so we're still trying to recover out there this morning. we'll keep you posted matt. >> thanks matt. see you in a little bit. let's talk about your travel forecast. it is 4:51, it's wednesday morning. on the big board we have our surface summary. it's green across the country r doesn't give you an indication of how unsettled the weather could be again today not own in our area but also across the country. accuweather gives us an indication of where the problem spots could be for airline travelers and look at this, rather than just sort of pick all the different airports, i shaded all the areas along the east coast and parts of the south and even

the midwest where you could see some trouble if you're flying today so we have philadelphia, the area airports there, florida, also atlanta and also detroit. notice that chicago is not include there had or texas so chicago and the fliers going to texas should look good. thundershowers is the problem over here and that's the same problem in the rocky mountain states. denver, salt lake city las vegas and sky harbor in phoenix could see thundershowers. that's not until later today. a lot of areas could see some weather related issues if you're flying today erin. >> thanks so much matt. someone has been using fake 50's all over the ocean city boardwalk. ocean city police want to hear from anyone who knows the man seen in these surveillance pictures. detectives say he used counterfeit 50-dollar bills for several purchases on the boardwalk saturday afternoon. the man hit three businesses between 1:30 and 3:30. surveillance also shows him with a woman and two children, one of whom was in a

wheelchair. >> a nationally celebrated drill team from camden says it has been locked out of its practice facility. tawanda jones founder of sophisticated sister is says the group showed up to practice at the water tower and found fencing around the building and closure signs. the facility is owned by the city of camden and jones says they were given no advance notice. a spokesperson for the city of camden tells "action news" that the group has been -- has not been locked out. the water tower is under renovation and not deemed safe. the spokesperson goes on to say it will take about four no's complete the -- four months to complete the project. >> deadly secrets. a woman in missouri find out some frightening news about the home she's rendering. >> a frontier airlines pilot is being hailed as a hero but not for anything he did while flying the plane. that story after the

the convict whose mug shot went viral. jeremy meeks was facing state charges for weapons offenses. yesterday the state of california hand him over to yesterday the state of in possession of a firearm charge. his mug shot somehow went viral weeks ago after being posted on the stockton police department's web site. the internet dubbing him the hot convict. >> flight delays are never fun but when they involve pizza they're a lot better. passengers on a front tear airlines flight were treated to dinner on their pilot's tab to deal with the inconvenience of inclement weather. captain gerard bradner decided he didn't want a hungry group of passengers on his hands. the flight which had already been delayed could not land because of storms hadn't to stop in wyoming where more than 50 pizzas were delivered to the plane with full symptom max travelers arrived at their denver destination five hours late. good to give the pilot some props. >> why am i never on those
