news," hurricane arthur has come ashore, howling winds and heavy rains have chased away vacationers from the north carolina coast. we've a live crew in atlantic county tracking conditions ahead of arthur's path. >> it is all systems go for the 4th of july celebrations, the wawa welcome america festivities will soon be underway. >> let's go over to david murphy and matt pellman filling in for karen rogers. >> reporter: the big story is hurricane arthur pulling away from north carolina, still on a track to go close enough to our coast to provide a little rain this morning. currently there's not a whole lot going on related to arthur. we have a branch of rain in the northern and western suburbs

that is producing steady rain in berks county, lancaster county and allentown. a couple of cells popping in along the coast that's it for now. as we take a look we have that flood watch in effect up until noon today just in case anymore cells pop in from that passing hurricane. not a lot of expected. all day there's an advisory for rip currents down the shore. if you get swept out to sea, don't panic, that's the first rule of thumb. all you have to do is swim parallel to the beach north or south, you'll get yourself back in, and swim near lifeguard stations today. all right. 74 degrees, still muggy as you survey the numbers. 76 by noon, a little rain around in the morning. noon, 77. maybe a few lingering showers, 3:00 p.m., 79. we're drying out the humidity is dropping.

we get a high of 80 around 4:00 p.m. and back to 77. some of you may have bright sunshine by 6:00 p.m. this evening. fireworks look good, i'll have the forecast coming up. not a lot of fireworks on the roads so far this morning. we have fireworks in the sky with that storm. we're paying the price for it this morning. amtrak signal problems resulted from the stormy conditions. septa airport regional rail line and newark regional rail line are halted for the morning commute. they have shuttle buses for the city and the airport line, use the 101 and 102 trolley if you're heading to media. otherwise we're on a holiday which in most cases means a sunday schedule with mass transit. 202 minor accident off to the side volume so light it's not causing problem. cape may county we have a downed

pole and downed wires blocking route 9 by the white house church indian road and wildwood boulevard. a tree on wires is blocking up pike creek road this morning polly drummen hill road gets you around that. >> we have the latest developments on hurricane arthur's track. the category 2 storm made landfall last night. right now it's battering the outer banks with winds up to 100 miles per hour. thousands do not have power right. the governor has i should a state of merge -- issued a state of emergency. the shoreline communities that did not evacuate remain under a curfew this morning. a full report is expected minutes away. >> holiday travelers will feel the effects of the hurricane this morning, eve pilgrim is in

atlantic city. good morning, eva. >> reporter: we have light rain and mist a lot of fog. if you look at the beach, you can't see the beach right now, because the fog has set in. earlier this morning when we could see the waves you could see that the waves were pretty churned up, they were crashing in pretty high this morning, the jersey shore as you mentioned isn't expecting to get the brunt of hurricane arthur, but he'll have an impact on holiday festivities. it was beautiful weather except for the wind slapping things around, arthur churned up the waters raising major concerns about rip currents, lifeguards kept swimmers close to the beach and no boogie boards were allowed. >> for a day like that stay waist deep and have a parent around you. >> we pulled boards it's a lot safer. without having boards drifting from the crowd and what not. >> back out here live in atlantic city, the fog as we've

been out here this morning, has gotten thicker and thicker, at the beginning of the show we could see the beach and the water, now you can see it's just a cloud, it feels like, over this area. the other thing that's affecting people at the shore who are trying to enjoy the festivities. most of the shore towns have their fireworks on the barges out in the ocean, because the water conditions are so dangerous, they are postponing the fireworks show. here in atlantic city, they are postponing theirs until sunday. eva pilgrim channel 6 "action news." >> it is foggy down there, thank you, eva. >> severe storms dealt a punch across the delaware and lehigh valleys. trees toppled in the suburbs. a woman suffered minor -- miner injuries when a fallen limb fell on her car.

somerton section of philadelphia, a wires came down. peco customers lost power, crews have brought the number down to 63,000. delaware and south jersey are dealing with scattered outages. >> but the skies will clear up just in time for the cull minute nation of the wawa -- culmination of the wawa welcome america festivities. 500,000 people are expected to pack this space for the largest free concert in america. crews putting the finishing touches on the concert last night said the conditions will cooperate for the performers. >> we have to be aware of wind, right now it is within the acceptable levels we are all ready and we want everybody to have a good time.

the steadiest rain in berks county and lancaster county and allentown you're getting caught with a little bit of this same thing in bethlehem and easton. no lightning, but this is an early rain band we're expecting from arthur. looks like one is forming off the coast, but right now it's scattered stuff down there. we have cloudy skies the sun trying to break through some of the early cloud cover, that hams even when you have the deck of clouds over philadelphia. warm and muggy out there, dewpoint, 67. it's on the humid side. winds north/northwest at 10 miles per hour. overall it will be a breezy day. between 9 colorado -- 9:00, matt was asking about the parade route, past 9:00 a.m., looks like the rain wants to taper off

even at the shore and the afternoon looks like a day of improvement where we'll see the rain end by midday and before that in spots and eventually sunshine returning as we go into the ladder portion of the afternoon. temperatures will be easier to take today. 75 degrees by 8:00 a.m. 77 by 11:00 p.m., still some showers around, still might field humid this morning. 2:00 p.m., 79. a high of only 80. with the humidity lowering it will be nice. that 80 will hit at are 5:00 p.m., 80 in wilmington and philadelphia and milled 70s down the shore, again, the general theme today is morning spotty rain and afternoon clearing and improvement not a bad away to go especially with the 4th and all your afternoon and evening activity. speaking of which, fireworks looks good, partly cloudy exit might clear out and a little bit

letters with audio warnings. >> police are investigating a deadly shooting in atlantic county in newtenville section of boon -- buena vista township. the 30-year-old was found with two gunshots to the neck. a young man dialed while on a fraternity hiking -- died while on a fraternity hiking trip. he died on the overnight trip. they say they ran out of water and he lost consciousness on a trail. his family said he was left in the woods with no shoes or water and expected to torched his way out. police -- to find his way out. police believe the death was accidental. two former wing bowl champions will compete for the crown in coney island.
