>> good morning, everyone, it is 5:00 a.m. on this friday, the 4th of july, developing this morning. >> hurricane arthur roars ashore pounding the north carolina coast with whipping winds and drenching rains. >> the crowds have arrived at the jersey shore ahead of the holiday weekend. accuweather is tracking arthur's impact on the coastline. >> 4th of july party on the parkway is primed and ready to go. >> david murphy is here and matt pellman is in for karen rogers good morning. >> reporter: let's start you out on radar. as you look, it's easy to see where arthur is located. it came ashore as a category 2. it's back to 100-mile an hour winds which makes it a category one.

we're seeing rain bands coming up from the storm. you can see on storm tracker 6 live double scan it's a little bit of steady rain passing northeast right like that through lancaster and reading and lehigh valley. another band possibly trying to come into the shore, although we may have to wait until a little bit later this morning until that becomes a big issue. we have the flood watch into friday afternoon. it will expire around most of these counties, but we'll leave it up in case there's other heavy bands that pop in. we have a rip current issue, remember if you get caught in a rip current, don't panic, swim parallel to the beach north or south, you'll get out of the current fairly quickly and you can bring yourself back to shore, that's the way to defeat a rip current. 74 in philadelphia, 72 in sea

isle city. the rain will subside this afternoon, we'll see more sunshine and the humidity will lower, the high will be easier on us, too, i don't know where that came from. we'll slash that 79 and move it up to 80. you'll see a high of 80 and it will get more comfortable as we go through the day. i'll have the fireworks forecast coming up. >> reporter: get that 79 out of here, good morning mr. murphy, we have a couple of problems we need to get out of here, we have no service because of subsequent storms the regional rail lines, the airport line halted. the wilmington newark line not running, take the 101 or 102 trolley down toward media. meanwhile, on the roads we're drying out like the schuylkill expressway looking good between montgomery drive and the

roosevelt boulevard, very light volume we expect that to be the case this morning. if you want to use the kelly drive you can do that until 10:00 a.m., they will close it for the independence regatta. the independence day parkway is closed for the concert and fireworks. and expect restrictions at independence hall. cape may county, downed wires, this is the case around the region, downed trees and wires. the one closing route 9 at indian trail road and wildwood boulevard, stay or the parkway to get around that. >> hurricane arthur spent last night and this morning lashing the coast of north carolina. it made landfall at came look out with 100-mile per winds. the storm brought several inches of drenching rains and caused widespread power outages and reports of tornados.

there are no reports of injuries. >> although well not experience the brunt of hurricane arthur, the effects will be felt along the jersey shore. eva pilgrim is live in atlantic city, wrurvet very careful -- where you need to be very careful if you're going into the water. >> reporter: the rain is just starting in atlantic city, just about five minutes ago, if you look out towards the beach and the ocean, you can see there's a fog that started to develop in the last half-hour, the waves are turned up, and rip currents is one of the things you've heard them say over and over again they are concerned about. while the jersey shore will not get the brunt of arthur, it will have an impact on festivities. yesterday it was picture-perfect, but the winds were blowing and churning up the waters raising occurrence for rip currents for swimmers. shore towns are bringing in extra lifeguards to deal with

the extra rough waters. >> it's rougher with the weather we're having lately and all the wind. >> if it does get crappy with the wind and the weather, my husband will be happy there will be waves to surf. he'll be entertain and we'll eat and drink and be merry. >> reporter: taking a live look at the beach in atlantic city, taking a look at this fog that's kind of the attitude most people are having, just like lady, most people are not playing to let mother nature ruin their holiday, they are planning to make the best of whatever weather they are given this weekend. the shore towns have postponed their fireworks, they usually put them out on barges, but that's not safe with the conditions in the water at this time. here in atlantic city, they are rescheduled for sunday night. live in atlantic city, eva pilgrim channel 6 "action news."

>> you can dramatic arthur at path with our -- you can track arthur's path with our storm tracker 6 live app and audio alerts and weather warnings. >> gunfire on a philadelphia street leaves one man dead and another hospitalized. it happened in the frankford section. both men ages 25 were shot at 10:00 p.m. one died from his wounds, the other is in stable condition. several cars were damaged by the gunfire, police are searching for suspects and a motive for the shooting. a boat fire in egg harbor township was so intensity melted the siding on two homes. flames erupted at 5:00 p.m. it is unclear how it started, but nobody was hurt. it is 5:06. the wawa welcome america

can see the next batch coming through reading that will be steady rain that will not last much longer. in bucks, chester, light stuff, nuisance stuff. there's another batch that might form off the coast, for now it's the light sprinkle down by atlantic city. as we look outside we have sky 6 at the airport, it's a little bit gray out there for now, and probably will be for a good portion of the morning, but the afternoon in particular does look better. 74 degrees in philadelphia, it feels a bit muggy out there. 69 in allentown, 73 in wilmington, 72 in sea isle city. in terms of this morning activities around the region, all right, between now and 9:00 a.m. there could be an occasional shower or maybe a thunderstorm popping through. it does not look like most of the region at any given time has a lot of rain, maybe closer to the shore. and then we go through the rest

of the morning, we begin to transition to better weather. matt was asking about center city at 10:00 a.m., it may or may not be raining, but not all the time. in the afternoon, the rain moves out and we expect sunshine. in allentown, the humidity will drop and we'll get a high of 77. really pleasant out there. down the shore you're looking at somewhat cool ocean water with the storm off the coast, nice on the beach, 72 by noon, always it may begin to be drying out at that point, 76 by 3:00 p.m. down the shore you might have to wait a little longer to get rid of the clouds and sun returns. 80 degrees is the high in philadelphia. morning rain with afternoon clearing a day of improvement it will be breezy out there, as we roll through the day, looks like we stay in the 70s most of the time high of 80 probably around there at 3:30 or so. improvement in the sky cover.

for the fireworks tonight looks pretty pleasant overall, partly cloudy to mainly clear skies across the region. a 10 to 20-mile an hour breeze, 77 degrees by 7:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. if you're out that late for the main fireworks show in philadelphia look for a temperature of 70. some suburbs could dip into the 60s by 11. hurricane arthur in the process of clearing the coast of north carolina. the center is out to sea. 100--mile-an-hour winds. it's weakened a little bit. it will stay as a category one as it gets out into the ocean and passes us. it will be well off the coast, so we're getting a brush of rain. rip currents and high surf at the shorele that will be a -- at the shore, that will be an issue today and this evening. this afternoon, clearing. sunny and nice, 83 on saturday. super on sunday, high of 87. breezy and hotter on monday, 94.

parades around the region as we celebrate our birthday of our country. the garrett hill parade begins an lancaster lane garrett avenue. you'll see restrictions along those roads. orlin starts at 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m., up the one in glenside starts at jenkintown road and edge hill road. one in norristown staring at erie and dekalb street. you have a parade in middletown township bucks confidentiality 9:00 a.m. they will close 413 between lincoln highway and trenton road. expect closures along main street and church and chester avenue. few of many. meanwhile, if you're heading to the shore, things are looking good so far on the garden state

otherwise we're on a holiday schedule which means a sunday schedule. down trees closing upper pike creek road in new castle county this morning, stick with polly drummen hill road instead. >> reporter: 76 degrees by 9:00 a.m., and still some showers around, noon, 77. maybe a few showers left, but i think we're in the process of drying in most neighborhoods by noon. this afternoon, 79 the degrees by 3. the high is 80 degrees around 3:00 p.m. 77 by 6:00 p.m., i do expect more and more sunshine to build in with lowering humidity a nice afternoon and great evening for fireworks. at the airport, all green aircraft. obviously if you're flying anywhere along the south carolina coastline or north carolina or down into virginia, you might have a little bit of a bumpy flight and maybe delays because of the hurricane off the shore. >> going on to "healthcheck," if you're traveling for the

>> reporter: good economic news for the holiday, the dow closed at a new high after a better than expected unemployment jobs report, it may lead to higher interest rates. the problem with the gm ignition switches has gone batch much further than admitted. there were reports of 17 years ago well before the other cars were introduced. it's costing 1.19 more than a year ago. they haven't changed much in the past month and start to come down now that tensions are easing in iraq. american are spending the most ever on barbecues. ground beef 16% more expensive, tomatoes almost as much.

>> police in doylestown bucks county are looking for whoever has been stealing american flags from the city's streets. about a dozen flags went missing on west oakland and 8th street. they are put up each year for the memorial day parade and left up until after the 4th of july. the city manager noticed the
