>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. on this thursday, july 3. tam is off, nydia han joins us, here's what's happening. >> lightning strikes may have sparked several fires around the region and accuweather is tracking the porm for more thunderstorms -- potential for more thunderstorms today. >> the search continues for a boater who disappeared on the delaware river. >> if you like micro brews, hospice prices are up -- hops prices are up. >> reporter: we have a flood watch in place because of the rain we experienced last night

and another round of drenching downpours that will be coming in later today and tonight, as you look at current radar, storm tracker 6 live double scan shows morning pop up showers and thunderstorms that have reformed just within the last 15 to 30 minutes most of us these are in chester county some pushing toward and through northern montgomery county and into northern bucks county. a little line of this, won't last long, but will produce a brief drenching downpour. you want to be careful of that lightning. overnight we did get the heavy band coming through, there it goes, there's more out in pittsburgh that's in the face of the coming cold front later in the afternoon that will fire up and we'll get a round of the drenchers. 72 in trenton. 74 in in allentown and 72 in sea isle city. it's muggy. we'll see upper 70s by

9:00 a.m. mid 80s by noon, 90 around 4:00 p.m. and 88 around 6:00 p.m. with the afternoon and evening thunderstorms firing up. arthur has become a hurricane, just barely with 75 miles per hour it's moving away from florida and upward the caroline coastline it will be off other coast tomorrow as with some impact, i'll have that coming up. >> reporter: it is friday, for many people this morning, thursday for others of us, no matter what the case if you're heading on the blue route you're looking at a much better ride. you would never know a half-hour ago we had a vehicle fire in the southbound side near the baltimore pike. the delay is completely gone. no need to worry built blue route any more. on the schuylkill expressway by gulph mills we have a crash involving a boat coming off at

trailer. the good news the traffic is getting by toward the blue route, at this point we're not seeing a huge delay. on the big picture no other big delays on the schuylkill expressway or i-95. southbound construction on i-95 is out of the way. we have a fire location we've been telling you about in pennsauken, we have an accident location in jenkintown by the td bank at old york road at washington lane. while we're drive drying out for the most part we have flooding in bucks county at oxford valley road. stick with trenton road. burlington county traffic troubles bridge road. and 295. >> the wave of thunderstorms that swept across the area caused isolated damage and

flooding. lightning strikes may be to blame for several fires. katherine scott is live in levittown the scene of one of those lightning strikes. katherine. >> reporter: matt, the strong storms that rolled through the area did cause quite a bit of damage, flooding in some areas in other spots they had problems with fires possibly caused by lightening strikes. that remains under investigation. here at this bucks county apartment complex, fire tore through the attic and roof area. it was a busy night for red cross here and other fire scenes. thick clouds move across the area and soon the sky opened up. in manayunk heavy rain drenched main street and those who were walking on huddling under umbrellas. lightening lit up the sky in new jersey. in berks county, heavy downpours sparked flash flooding. some drivers risked navigating

the high water and got stuck. in levittown lightning struck this apartment complex. the fire broke out at 8:20. 1 a few minutes were displace -- 12 families were displaced and getting assistance from red cross. neighbors reported a boom and then saw smoke in montgomery county. firefighters were met with heavy fire on the outside which was spreading quickly. the red cross is assisting a family of four. >> we have expensive damage on the roof area. most of the roof is gone, the second floor has expensive danch. >> reporter: back live in levittown, the second floor windows are boarded up, investigators trying to determine if lightning was the cause of some of these fires.

live in levittown, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> our free storm tracker 6 live app can help you tracker more storms as they break out later today. access our radar and get the hourly forecast from the apple or android device. breaking right now, "action news" has new video of a huge fire that gutted a twin home in south jersey. it happened on 39th street near high street in camden county. flames shot in the sky. nobody was inside at the time and there are no reports of any injuries. >> we have a developing story along the delaware river, the search has resumed for the 66-year-old man who disappeared after his sailboat capsized. he and four others were out on the 24-foot vessel about 8:00 p.m. when the storm hit. they were trying to dock the boat at the delaware river yacht club when the powerful winds flipped the boat and sank it. four others were able to swim to

shore. for a couple of minutes they saw the man clinking to a small cooler and then he was gone. >> when they looked back they saw the cooler floating and no longer the 66-year-old man hanging on. two berks county men involved charges for a road rage incident involving an off duty officer. they beat up the officer on route 61 last last month. he was reportedly speeding away from a store that refused to serve him. he bumped the car. the officer works part-time as an officer. >> target is asking shoppers

not to bring gudges into its -- guns into the store, even in the locations where it's legal. target said it was providing a safe and inviting at for shoppers. dow closing shy of 17,000 mark. futures pointing to a higher open. wall street is waiting for a june jobs forecast. the price of hops has doubled in the last ten years that's a problem for craft brewers who make beers that go heavy on the hops. it's used to add aroma and bitterness to beers. it could force a shut down of small brewers. that's the latest from business news, the markets are closed for the holiday tomorrow. you ever a great 4th.

>> you have a great, red, white and blue weekend. >> reporter: thanks. >> lots of stuffer going on. >> reporter: let's start with storm tracker 6 live double scan most of us us are dry, as we go in tighter there are new thunderstorms out of the southwest popping up in chester county at this point and extending through northern berks county and pushing up more or less toward quakertown and areas to the north. there are a lot of recent lightening strikes with a couple of these cells. there's one this chadsford that will start to producing lightning soon. i could see ponding and puddling along this line is always you're getting a train -- as you're getting a training effect. green lane, some of this may

slide closer to lansdale and doylestown. that's the issue right now. stepping outside we have muggy conditions a lot of clouds around, step outside where it isn't raining it feels humid you can tell there's moisture hanging in the air getting ready to be fired up by something. 73 in millville. 73 in wilmington. similar numbers across the region. future tracker 6 shows you by 1:00 p.m. not are a whole lot going on maybe a scattered pop up cell, by 4:00 p.m. we'll look to the gathering from the west as the cold front pushes in from the west. by dinnertime some of the northern and western suburbs will see these drenching thunderstorms. they will be similar to last night, some could have gusty winds, but the bigger issue is the drenching downpours and lightning. and we had some strikes from the sounds of it. up in allentown, today it's a

warm and humid one, not as hot as yesterday, but a high of 88. of course, there's a chance of afternoon storms, maybe something pops in the morning, but the best chance is later in the day and evening. down the shore, 84 degrees is the 3:00 p.m. high. ocean temperature are in the 60s at this point. in philadelphia i'll go for a high of 90. if we hit that it's significant from a record-keeping standpoint it will be the third day in a row if we hit 90 or better. either way it will be on the hot and humid side with the afternoon and evening thunderstorms. that's how numbers will climb. if you have something to do this morning, you might want to check out radar on your smart phone on your storm tracker 6 live app or 6abc.com or our cut-ins in the morning to make sure that something is not popping. in the afternoon, upper 80s and high of 90 and the better

highway. voorhees township they have white horse road close over the patco track because of the bridge problems they discovered last week, so somerdale road is taking the brunt of the detouring traffic for an indefinite period of time. >> apple has a new job posting unlike the others, an icup technician, it may sound like a fancy title for a web beverage connection holder. it's for someone to brew coffee for their workers. >> a judge will decide if there's enough evidence to keep a georgia father in jail in connection with the death of his toddler who was left in a hot car. after taking his son to breakfast he forget to drop him off at his day care center.

everybody, a flood watch is in place good for today and tonight and through the morning tomorrow as we are expecting heavy downpours later today and tonight with more rain tomorrow morning. >> reporter: but even this morning we've broken out in thunderstorms in parts of the region, the northern and western suburbs, areas of chester county, montgomery county and parts of bucks county all seeing. i could see this stuff sliding toward the northeast and sliding to the east if you're in doyle or norristown -- doylestown or norristown, ballotten down the hatches -- batten town the hatches. it's going to be a hot and humid afternoon. 79 degrees by 9:00 a.m., 86 by noon, 3:00 p.m., 89. i do think we'll hit a high of 90. if we get it, it will be the first heat wave. 6:00 p.m., close to 90. again, in the afternoon and early evening there's a better

chance of drenching thunderstorms similar to what we're seeing in parts of region right now. hurricane arthur has become a hurricane about an hour ago or so. the winds are at 75 miles per hour. the storm is on the move toward the northeast and we'll have the latest track and it's effects on us tomorrow in the seven day. matt, what is traffic looking like right now? it's looking soggy and slippery and slow in chester county because of the rains you just spoke of, david. on the eastbound side of the 30 bypass we have a broken down vehicle by 340 that's not helping us out. it's sluggish. 313 into 1 -- 30 into 113 it's slowing. we have flooding from last night's rain at bristol oxford valley road.

stick to trenton road. there's a water main break in lower merion blocking wynnewood avenue at windsor avenue. we have delays starting to form on i-95 southbound by girard avenue at 22 miles per hour. in pennsauken we have that fire location at 39th an high street. bridge road they are stuck on red, the traffic lights, you can only make a right turn there. you see slowing on the new jersey turning pike traveling knowledge -- through that area in burlington county. >> the storms that came through last night left their mark on the region, as you heard this is on round one. katherine scott is in leave he let -- levittown where a lightning strike could be start of the fire.

>> reporter: here in levittown the damage that remains at this apartment complex, flames tore through the roof. fire crews across the area were very busy last night. the storm was intense. >> matthew gorny heard a boom and saw smoke around 7:00 p.m. when firefighters arrived they were met with heavy fire on the outside which was spreading to the interior. the damage was heavy and the red cross is assisting the family of four. >> reporter: as you can see from the picture behind me we have expensive damage on the roof area most of the roof is gone, the second floor has expensive damage. lightning lit up the sky while fire crews worked to put out the flames at this leave he let town apartment complex. the fire broke out at 8:20 an "action news" viewer captured this shot of the flames. 12 families were displaced and getting assistance from the time

red cross. -- from the red cross. a fire in edgewater park was reported around 8:00 p.m. flames and smoke tore through the second and third floors. the fire was brought under control in a half-hour's time. one person was treated for smoke. and back here live in levittown, you can see the roof is completely charred, the second floor windows are boarded up, there's debris on the ground. obviously quite a bit of damage, the investigation continues into whether it was indeed lighting that caused the fire. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> parts of north carolina outer banks are under evacuation orders this morning while the storm arthur has reached hurricane status. long lines of vehicles were moving off hatteras islands while residents and tourists take the evacuation order seriously. >> if it's mandatory you have to go, so there's no decision to

the storm winds flipped it over and sank it. four others swam to shore. they last saw the man clinging to the cooler in the water, they found the cooler, but not the man. detectives are looking for the feltonville man who is wanted in connection with the death of his mother. the body was discovered inside a freezer in the home on north lee street on tuesday, police believe she died back in january. investigators want to know if he is keeping her death a secret so he could keep cashing her social security checks. the medical examiner is waiting for the body to thaw before determining a manner of death. the federation of teachers call it a huge victory for public schools. a cigarette tax to fund education is one step closer to reality. the measure goes back to the state senate for one more vote before it reaches the governor's

cesk. desk. the 2-dollar per pack tax would close the $93 million budget gap. >> david is tracking storms in the suburbs. >> reporter: you can see the overnight view, it's dry, but in the closer view we have a line of an impressive string of thunderstorms that is producing heavy downpours and you can see the recent lightening strikes. the big issue for drivers will be the heavy rain, but for pedestrians the lightning an issue. as i go ahead and start this up, you can see the movement is from southwest toward the northeast with a little bit of a slow slide toward the northeast. if you're in quakertown you're under the threat of light lightning. doylestown some of the same story, if you're in doylestown you meant to be careful. areas of delaware county,

there's radnor, might be close enough for a plightenning strike in -- lightning strike in radnor before too much longer and pick up this rain, as well. the southern tier is down toward west chester. look at how that is outpacing the storm. sometimes you have lightning that jumps out ahead. we had katherine scott out in levittown, 35 miles per hour away. talking about lightning strikes. be careful of the lightsenning and down -- lightning and downpours where it's happening. as we look outside, we have clouds and breaks in the action over in philadelphia right now with the rain parked well to the north and west of the city for now. temperatures 74. it's muggy. dewpoint, 68. we have some dancing around 70. borderline oppressive humidity

this morning. winds light at 6 miles per hour. noon not a lot of action, a couple of thunderstorms possible. i think the better chance is later this afternoon. this is the 4:00 p.m. view, when we'll get that cold front coming in from the west, getting closer to us, the atmosphere is more cooked up with the higher numbers it will be easier to force the thunderstorms. 530 most of this is to the north and west of the i-95 corridor. although there could something popping closer, like early evening and last night we'll get this barrelling through philadelphia. these be drenching downpours and fair amount of them as you just saw and possible street flooding or flash flooding along flashing creeks and streams. some of these storms could produce gusty winds that's another thing to keep in mind,

aside from the heavy rain. 77 degrees at 9:00 a.m. 83 by 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m., 88. i expect 890 degrees this will be the season's first heat wave of 3 days of 90 degrees or better. as we go into the arching or evening -- afternoon and evening we'll have more showers. some points north won't be in the 90s, but close. down the shore, mid 80s. and thunderstorms the best chance later in the day and at night. there's hurricane arthur. yes it turned into a hurricane. you can see the core spinning around the rain bands. there's no eye, but obviously a well-defined storm at this point. 57 miles per hour just barely makes it a category one. it maintains category strength

as it goes off the coast by us. we'll be close enough to the storm to get rain through the morning. however, afternoon, boom, it gets out of here, and the afternoon and evening look great for the 4th of july. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 90 humid, drenchers possible. rain in the morning on friday, late day sun and beautiful high 79 degrees, lowering humidity through the day. saturday and sunday, look great, lots of sunshine, low humidity. summer returns big time on monday, heat and humidity, 92. probably more thunderstorms. >> new developments in the search for a shooter down south. aman wanted in connection with crime that has turned into a murder case. >> reporter: 202, the road is mostly dry with traffic moving okay, are we moving all right on the schuylkill expressway. we'll talk shore traffic when "action news" continues on

>> developing now, yet another fire in our area with lightning suspected as the cause. it happened on the 2500 block of about berywn court in voorhees, new jersey. the fire started on the third floor and spread through the building it took an hour to bring it under control. the red cross is providing housing for 9 adults and five children. looks like the traffic is looking good for this holiday weekend. schuylkill expressway a tad crowded from montgomery into

girard, but overall it's not too bad. westbound is starting to back up in the normal spots, but the volume is not always heavy as a normal thursday morning. on i-95 you see speeds in the 20s as you pass girard avenue. but the delay is not as lengthy as it normally would be. we are watching a water main break at wynnewood avenue and windsor avenue stay with us on penn road. a little more construction they will be closing old lancaster road from 9:00 a.m. to 2 for drainage improvement. 30 lancaster avenue gets you around it. we've got flooding in bucks county after the heavy rains last night closing bristol oxford valley road and chicken foot park. trenton roads cigarettes e -- gets you around that. one. 42 no big delays heading toward

295. a little bit building volume. this afternoon i have the sneaking suspicion is not going to be a pleasant ride on the southbound side with the heavy rain and the shore traffic we expect delays later on today. developing overnight a man wanted in connection from a weekend shooting on the busy bourbon street. justin odem turned himself into authority hours after police announced that one of the shooting victims a 21-year-old woman died. 9 others were shot, but expected to survive. the search for a second person of interest in the case continues. >> everyone has a bad day at work. one ohio woman who haven'ted about it on facebook is finding herself on the unemployment line. she said she was dissatisfied with tips she got from a
