same thing at the atlantic city airport. quiet conditions. no showers just yet to speak of. a better chance for isolated showers monday afternoon. today at the shore we should stay dry. that's the big change this morning as the models have taken out the showers at the shore. by 11:00 a.m., 79 degrees. 2:00 p.m., 84. we are following breaking news in philadelphia. an off-duty police officer has been killed in a crash. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at einstein medical center, that's where emergency crews tried to save the sergeant's life what have you learned? >> rosemary, we have seen police cars leaving einstein medical center. just within the past 30 seconds or so, a 39th district car pulled out from it the hospital and went out on to broad street and made a left turn and left the area. no one is stopping and giving us

more information about the sergeant who, as you said, worked for the 39th district. this accident happened late last night around 11:30 on a curved portion of henry avenue. the sergeant was off duty, lost control of the pickup truck he was driving, and slammed into a tree at dupont street no other vehicles were involved and he was the only person inside the pickup. there were no skid marks at the scene. police are withholding his name until his family is notified. we're trying to get more information from the officers that we see out here at einstein. we'll try to update you again in the next 30 minutes or so. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. new from overnight, police are looking for the gunman wanted in a burlington county shooting that sent a 17-year-old to the hospital. it happened at a house along marn highway in mt. laurel. the teen suffered a gunshot

wound to the chest. in delaware county, police arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend. the gunfire happened yesterday at a house on bunting lane in aston. the woman is now in the hospital. we're working to find out more about her condition. today the guardian angels will be in wilmington. the founder and president of the group along with members from the baltimore chapter will visit wilmington to begin the process of creating a chapter there. you may remember that last december "newsweek" magazine dubbed wilmington murder town usa. this weekend marks the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to two philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty. here's a look at that memorial at the 22nd police district the officer moses walker jr. was shot and killed at a robbery attempt in 2012. and sergeant robert wilson iii was killed earlier this year while trying to stop a robbery

in progress. this morning the eagles are coming off a rout of the ravens. here's a live look inside lincoln financial field. all is quiet now. last night was a big night. the birds showed off their offense that offense included new player sam bradford and demarco murray. murray had a touchdown, bradford took a couple of big hits during his one series on the field. it was a return to game action for bradford after missing time following knee surgery. >> i thought he looked good for the first time back out there. i think we'll get back in the film room with him. i think he's happy to get back on the field and play football again. >> the eagles beat the ravens 40-17. the birds head to green bay next saturday to take on the packers. you can watch that game on nbc 10. we are the official station of the philadelphia eagles. looking ahead to next weekend, the eagles will be in lambeau field. you can watch that game.

afternoon. more of a mix of sun and clouds. still a nice day, staying nice and dry for us as well throughout the area, even the shore showing dry conditions. 59 degrees in wilmington. 57 in washington township. 61 in wrightstown. quakertown at 54. 57 in pottstown. if you look at woodbine, 60 degrees. 62 in dover. clear conditions on the radar. nothing to report. showers are well off shore. heading into today, temperatures range between 83 and 86 degrees. >> thanks. wildlife researchers have a new tool to pinpoint the recent problem of bear sightings and attacks in some parts of the country. a new tracking system is using gps secotechnology to monitor possible problem bears. it allows scientists to track their every move which gives the

scientists a better idea of what the bear mays may do next. >> these collars, every few hours we get a location on a bear. so each of these yellow dots is a position that a gps collar picked up. >> wildlife technicians also used loud noises and paint balls to frighten bears. the idea is to give bears a negative memory of the area. wildfires continue to burn out west. six states are trying to stop the flames from raging out of control what president obama is doing to help. that's next.

square miles in washington. in the town of omak volunteers are getting emergency training. the state is not taking chances after three firefighters were killed last week. some residents who appear to have evacuated the town are at their breaking point. >> i'm so angry right now. i'm so tired. >> what have these fires done to your family? >> turned everything upside down. this is the second year. this is the second summer we had to play this game. >> federal aid and more firefighters are filtering in to the area after president obama declared the region a disaster last week. new this morning, two police officers are injured after a shootout in upstate new york. the officers in troy, new york responded to a report of an attempted carjacking last night. when they arrived on the scene, they came across a man matching a description from witnesses. >> was said the guy had a gun. the officer waited for backup, he followed him a bit, and then

when they encountered him, he just opened fire on them. >> the officers shot and killed the suspect. one officer was shot in his leg, the other in the torso. both are expected to recover. tomorrow begins the formal sentencing of the man accused of killing 12 people in a movie theater. james holmes faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. 70 people were hurt in the theater shooting, each of them will have the chance to speak in court. gun safety advocates plan to hold a rally outside the white house tomorrow morning. the group, we the people for sensible gun laws, is calling on congress to pass legislation to help prevent gun violence. from overseas, chinese authorities are investigating another explosion at a chemical plant. the state news agency says the blast in eastern china killed one person and injured nine others.

firefighters had to put out a fire ignited by the explosion. that latest blast comes just ten days after this disaster at a chemical warehouse in tianjin, china killed 121. investigators are still looking for the cause of this explosion. both blasts have raised concerns about how china regulates the chemical industry. happening now, a second day of talks between north and south korea is underway at a border village in the demilitarized zone. the rival nations are trying to calm tensions along the border. north carolina declared a semistate of war earlier this week after the south began sending propaganda over loud speakers. as we prepare for the pope's visit next month, the city of philadelphia is releasing a papal visit playbook tomorrow.

57 in reading temperatures in pottstown, 50s. 59 in wilmington. 59 right now atlantic city airport. 24-hour temperature change map shows we're about seven degrees cooler in mt. holly. seven degrees cooler in millville. quiet conditions now for us. we like to see that. you can even see the showers that are riding along this stalled frontal boundary are starting to break down. that's good news. we'll stay nice and dry here as we head into the rest of your sunday. the models are not picking up a chance of showers like they wrerl ler. n were earlier. a chance of thunderstorms early on tuesday at 6:00 a.m. more clouds on tuesday, but everything else looks good. tropical storm danny, you can see it there, still well off to the east of the caribbean. it is tracking to the west.

as we look at the sustained wind speeds, right now around 50 miles per hour. not even a hurricane. moving to the west at 15 miles per hour. still 360 miles east of some of the islands in the caribbean. so, it's going to take a while before that tropical storm makes its way over there. closer to monday is the time frame. our highs around the region today, 77 in the poconos. 84 in allentown. 83 in pottstown. and temperatures today in wilmington at 84. so our range will be between 83 and 86 degrees. mix of sun and clouds. the seven-day forecast shows as we head into the next few days, we will stay nice and quiet and dry. temperatures warm. close to 90 tomorrow. after that, we stay mainly in the 80s. next, the dark web. a secret server used by millions of people online for good and bad.

secrecy within a few clicks in the dark web. the ashley madison records did include customer names and e-mail addresses. the hackers have been threatening to release the entire e-mail boxes from the company's top executive. the man found with rosie o'donnell's missing daughter is now facing some charges. steven sherer owns the house in barnegat where chelsea o'donnell was discovered earlier this week by police. he is accused of child endangerment and allegedly had inappropriate online communications with the 17-year-old girl. authorities took a computer and other equipment when she executed the search warrant. sherer could not be reached for comment in the case. next, an off-duty police officer is killed after his pickup truck crashes into a tree. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at

look at our radar shot. it looks like a few little pops of precipitation, maybe a few little sprinkles have moved into avalon and corbin city. we expect to stay mainly dry going into the rest of today. i'll continue to track where these light showers are heading. i'll have those details coming up in another ten minutes. we are following some breaking news in philadelphia. an off-duty police officer has been killed in this crash thatted in roxborough at henry avenue and dupont street. jesse gary is live at einstein medical center where the officer was taken after the accident. what can you tell us. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with accident investigators who tell us they continue to investigate this accident. they are look at everything including speed. this fatal crash happened overnight around 11:30 on henry avenue. a wide section of henry avenue

as it passes the wissahickon section of fairmount park. the sergeant was off duty and working in the 39th duty, lost control of the pickup truck he was driving, slamming into a tree at dupont street. he was the only occupant of that pickup truck. police are withholding his name because they have not notified all of his family. we'll get more information on the sergeant and what led up to this crash. live outside einstein medical center, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. new from overnight in burlington county, police are looking for the person who shot a teenager. it happened at a house on marn highway in mt. laurel. the victim was 17 years old. he was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. there's no word on his condition. show me your hands. show me your [ muted ] hands. this video of a deadly traffic stop in cumberland county has been the focus of a grand jury

investigation, now the driver's family is speaking out for the first time since that grand jury cleared the police officers who shot and killed the man. the family is calling for justice for jerome reid. bridgeton police officers killed him during an altercation last december. you can see the altercation here on a dash cam. on thursday, a grand jury decided not to indict the officers involved. reids family says they will request a federal investigation. >> i feel that justice was not served. my son does not have justice. he -- i don't have to peace. >> the officers cleared in reid's death are now on administrative leave with pay. we did reach out to the police chief in bridgeton for comment but have yet to hear back. in delaware county, police arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend. the gunfire happened yesterday at a house on bunting lane in aston. the woman is now in the hospital. we're working to find out more about her condition.

we note identity of the child who drowned in a bucks county pool yesterday. skyforce 10 was over the neshaminy shore picnic club where 4-year-old nahyer johnson of philadelphia drowned. the boy was found at the bottom of a pool during a large family function at the park. medics took nahyer to st. mary medical center where he was pronounced dead. this weekend marks the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to two philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty. take a look at the memorial. this is at the 22nd priolice district. officer moses walker jr. was shot and killed at a robbery attempt in 2012. and sergeant robert wilson iii was killed earlier this year while trying to stop a robbery in progress. neighbors hosted a community day yesterday to honor those fallen officers. if you are looking for something to do today, you may want to go to the 24th annual

ukrainian folk festival. you can enjoy folk dancing, music, arts, crafts and plenty of food. the eagles soared last night at the linc. this is from our camera that we call the eagles nest. right there is the linc. two new birds made their much anticipated debuts last night against the ravens. one of the players is quarterback sam bradford. he returned to the field after a knee injury. bradford played just one series but proved he could take a hit, including one that resulted in a 15-yard personal foul penalty. some called it a low blow. the other hit roughed him up a bit. >> he limped a bit. i don't know what that came on he did get a couple hits. no worse for the wear. good step for him. >> demarco murray made his eagles debut last night. he had five carries and a touchdown. the eagles beat the ravens 40-17. eagles fans were out in full force at the linc.

good morning. we're seeing plenty of sunshine in most of the area to start. also on the chilly side. you can see a few clouds have moved in. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds heading into the rest your sunday. a look at current temperatures. depending on where you are, you probably need a jacket before you head out the door. especially if you're in chester springs. 53 degrees. 57 in kennett square. 59 in wilmington. 57 in washington township. 61 in wrightstown. temperatures in allentown, 55. 52 in mt. pocono. low 50s in oxford. dover, temperatures at 62. we've seen a few little light showers move into cape may and also avalon, also near dennis and south of atlantic city. these are be short-lived showers. our temperatures will range between 83 and 86.

beauty in the skies turns to tragedy on the ground. at least seven people are dead after a military jet crashed during an air show in england. we have new video this morning showing the deadly crash as it happened. we do want to warn you the images may be disturbing. spectators were marveling at the slow loop that the 1950s military jet was making when it exploded on the ground. it left a trail of flames and smoke on a highway. miraculously the pilot survived but he's in critical condition. the air show announcer told fans to stay in place while rescue crews rushed to the scene. investigators are looking into what went wrong.

we have new information on a train attack in france that could have become a mass shooting if it were not for three americans. three childhood friends were on vacation when chaos erupted on the train traveling from amsterdam to paris on friday. the shooter, now identified as a moroccan with possible radical islamic ties, opened fire, but his automatic rifle jammed, that's when the three americans and a british businessman subdued the gunman. >> i showed up and grabbed the gun from him. >> we all ran back there and we tried to, like, do whatever we could to beat him up so he didn't shoot anybody. >> french authorities awarded medals to the four heroes. the men also got a thank you call from president obama. only a final note, airman first class spencer stone, whom you see here, one of the heroes and one of two people hurt on the train, is now out of the hospital.

loud speakers. south korea did it after two soldiers were hurt in a land mine explosion that they blame on the north. now to decision 2016. look at vice president joe biden's motorcade heading to washington for meetings. biden left his delaware home yesterday morning to meet with massachusetts senator elizabeth warren. the meeting is fueling speculation about a biden presidential bid. polls show a majority of democrats would favor that. >> when something like that happens and i'm here in iowa, man, i feel right at home. >> that's new jersey governor chris christie joking about those protesters who interrupted his stump speech at the iowa state fair yesterday. christie is running for the gop presidential nomination. animal rights activists jumped on stage to protest christie's veto of a bill that would have banned the use of small metal crates for pigs which some

consider a form of animal cruelty. tomorrow a judge will decide if pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane will go on trial for perjury and abuse of power. kane is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in norristown, montgomery county. kane is charged with leaking grand jury information to a newspaper and lying about it. kane insists the allegations stem from the government pornographic e-mail scandal that her office uncovered. the scandal has already led to numerous firings and two high-profile resignations. the same-sex couple who won their case for marriage equality before the u.s. supreme court are now legally wed. april deboer and jane rowse exchanged vows last in michigan. the couple sued the state for the right to marry and to jointly adopt their children. the u.s. district judge who struck down michigan's ban on same-sex marriage before the case went to the supreme court officiated the ceremony. >> i don't think we ever

expected this day to come. that we would be able to get married and then adopt a kid. so it's just -- it's a tremendous feeling. >> the newlyweds say the next step is to file joint adoption papers for their four children. >> the ocean county man whom police say was found with rosie o'donne o'donnell's miss ing daughter is facing charges. steven sheerer owns the home in barnegat where investigators found 17-year-old chelsea o'donnell earlier this week. sheerer is accused of child endangerment and distribution of obscenities to a minor. he allegedly had inappropriate online communications with the 17-year-old. authorities took a computer and other digital equipment when they executed the search warrant. sheerer could not be reached for comment. this weekend pro-life protesters rallied outside of several planned parenthood locations in our area. dozens of members of the pro-life union of philadelphia came together to demonstrate against the women's health

organization. they rallied here in west chester. the protests come as many seek to cut off federal funding for planned parenthood. >> once and for all i would like us to be land of the free. that means babies are free to be born as we were. it's just appalling that our country has let this go on for so long. >> protesters in our area were not alone. activists across the country rallied outside hundreds of planned parenthood locations. we reached out to planned parenthood for comment. a spokesperson tells nbc 10 in part, if these protesters were committed to reducing unintended pregnancies, they would work with us to increase access to affordable birth control. new to news from our delaware bureau, police are asking for your help to identify this man whom detectives say broke into a north wilmington restaurant last weekend. the burglar spent nearly four

philadelphia panda has given birth. this photo shows one of the tiny newborns that the 17-year-old panda mom gave birth to. the panda has two other cubs. one of those cubs, named bao bao, was celebrating her second birthday today this is video from her first birthday. the zoo will give the cub a frozen treat to mark the occasion. visitors can see bao bao later this morning outside the zoo panda house. today marks day one of a major initiative to bring hope and help to one of philadelphia's most violent neighborhoods. a street festival yesterday brought residents together in north philadelphia. neighbors came out to watch free musical performances and enjoy family fun. the goal of the event, called building bridges, was to promote community relationship.
