shooting in north philadelphia and a call for help for an officer hurt. christine maddela is live at police headquarters. walk us through what happened. >> reporter: it was a shooting, a chase, and then an officer hit by a car. right now police are still looking for the person they say shot a man six times. that shooting started the whole chain of events. police shut down this north philadelphia neighborhood for hours tonight as they searched for evidence. they found shell casings and the gun used in the shooting that sent one man to the hospital. >> the male was transported to temple hospital where he is in k critical condition. >> reporter: the victim's friend committed a different crime. >> a friend of the male allegedly was going after the shooter and while a police officer tried to stop the car and this person struck the officer with the car. >> reporter: the man who was driving the car who hit the

officer is facing charges as well. >> yes. for aggravated assault with a vehicle on a police officer. >> reporter: i checked in with police tonight. they tell me the police officer that was hit by a car has scrapes and bruises on his arms and legs. he was treated and was released and is now recovering. reporting live at police headquarters, christine maddela. police say a father killed his own son at a farm on old trenton road in west windsor township. randy jillgyllenhaal talked abo how it happened. >> reporter: police say at some point this afternoon, the 45-year-old son was shot in the back of the head. the man's father and hunting partner is an elderly man in his 70s. it is believed at this point that the father fired a shotgun

blast toward his son. police and medics headed to this field and did cpr but couldn't save the man. right now it appears to be accidental. we're told the family is in shock. >> the initial call was a hunting accident at the property. and the medics and police officers were immediately dispatched and came across a person that was deceased. everything appears to be an accident. we are dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s. >> reporter: the family farm is in west windsor township. the accident happened just east of the property. this investigation is still early but the family is cooperating. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. remember this guy? he is on probation for slashing tires in mayfair a couple years

ago. he may be at it again. someone has been vandalizing cars in oxford circle. a witness said he saw a man placing an object near the tire of a vehicle. it was a mouse trap with nails attached to it. the investigator led them to toledo and he was arrested last night. now to the weather and a warm up headed our way. thousands of runners will be taking off tomorrow morning and nbc 10 first alert meteorologist brittney shipp is here with what we can except for the philadelphia marathon. >> as you get up early tomorrow morning, it will be a cold start to the morning. temperatures by 5:00 a.m. at 36 degrees. a cold start. by 9:00 a.m., 43 degrees. and at lunchtime, 51 degrees. we'll push into the mid-50s tomorrow which is much warmer than what we saw today. we saw mostly cloudy skies and

what we'll see tomorrow is partly sunny skies and then we'll watch the southwest as another system makes its way towards us. during the day we're fine, but by 9:00 p.m. we'll see more rainfall moving into the area. it's going to last throughout the entire evening on sunday night. by monday at 6:00 you may want to take extra time to get to work. we will see wet roads with lingering showers. the system clears out at 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning. then warmer air moves in leading to the possibility of record warmth for us and changes for the thanksgiving day holiday and the travel details coming up in my forecast. investigators are looking for the cause of a deadly condo fire in montgomery county. the fire started a the brookwood condominiums. the flames were shooting out of the roof of the building. it took two hours to get the

fire under control. the victim's body was found after the flames were put out. the red cross is helping four families forced out because of that fire. police in ocean county are on the hunt for this man. he robbed a bank in manchester township today. the masked man handed a teller a note demanding cash. he got away with an undisclosed amount of money. there will be no grand jury decision in ferguson, missouri this weekend. nbc news learned the grand jury has not decided if darren wilson will face charges. crews put up barriers around the building where the grand jury has been deliberating. several businesses in ferguson have boarded up their windows. since a decision isn't expected this weekend, police and firefighters have eased back on their alert status.

but supplies are being moved into churches across the area that will serve as safe havens if needed. michael brown's father returned to the neighborhood where his son was shot and killed in august. michael brown sr. said he was drawn there delivering turkeys to those who have stayed by his side. here in philadelphia there are plans for protests if officer wilson is not indicted on murder charges. one demonstration would start at philadelphia city hall and end at broad street in north philadelphia. philadelphia police will be on hand to ensure the safety of all citizens and the protection of property. and stay with nbc 10 and www.nbc10.com for your complete coverage of the grand jury decision in ferguson and its impact here at home. now to the casino crisis in atlantic city. the trump taj mahal is offering

a bizarre incident at the boston airport. a naked man goes on the attack. cameron shank stripped naked inside a women's bathroom and climbed into the ceiling. he crashed through the ceiling and landed in a stall area around noontime. as he ran away he attacked an 84-year-old man. they say shank bit the victim and tried to choke him with his own cane. troopers wrestled him to the ground and arrested him. the elderly man is doing okay. why turkeys are more in demand an ever. and off the runway, what sent this jet into the grass at

more than 30,000 runners will line up to race in the philadelphia marathon. the starting line is on the ben franklin parkway near the philadelphia museum of art. the course goes through university city through the historic district back to the finish line at the art museum. the streets will be closed around the race route.

the weekend kicked off with the 8 k this morning. the winner crossed the finish line in just under 24 minutes. the marathon draws 60,000 spectators and 3,000 volunteers. go to www.nbc10.com for a list of detours and race details. police are trying to find a thief who stole $3,000 worth of computer equipment from mercer county. they say someone stole two dell computers and four dell power supply units last month. it was just reported. the food bank of south jersey needs turkeys, volunteers hosted a turkey drop today and packed up other goods so those in need can enjoy a holiday meal. you can help. the food bank is always willing to take donations, especially this time of year. the pennsylvania spca is partnering with a regional chain

of pet stores to help more animals find forever homes. nbc 10 at the pets plus store where dozens of rescued animals were up for adoption. the chain store will no longer sell commercially-bred puppies. the spca will provide the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in need of loving homes. they hope it will reduce the demand for pets from puppy mills. this world war ii torpedo gets a boost as it makes its way to its final resting place. now it sits in summers point at a monument honoring united states submariners. it will be dedicated next spring. a scare for passengers in detroit. the flight slid off the runway because of ice there.

it was taxiing to the gate when it lost control and ended up in the grass. no one was hurt. the airport was shut down for several hours because of the ice. and we have wet weather coming our way? >> that's right. as we head into tomorrow and the late evening hours we will start to see the rainfall moving in. we are tracking rain on sunday night lingering into monday. record warmth will warm up tomorrow. but it's monday where we could make a run for the record with temperatures in the low 60s and travel trouble for the turkey forecast. we are expecting a possibility of rain and snow. but the flags are moving, wind speed out of the south at 13 miles an hour. temperatures at 42 degrees. a few clouds, humidity at 47%. we are at 38 degrees in the poconos. we drop down to the 30s for allentown. 41 in glass borough.

and mostly cloudy skies tonight. partly sunny tomorrow. and staying dry. although we have a system far off to the southwest of us that is going to organize itself and head our way as we head into tomorrow. during the day we're fine. the clouds increasingly 9:00 p.m. that's when the rain starts to move in. the rain continues overnight. and as we head into monday we'll continue to see warm air come up from the south. the record is 71 setback in 2007. we're going to make a run for the record with temperatures increasing drastically from over the weekend. today we're in the mid-40s. tomorrow in the 50s. warmer conditions and we'll watch for this system, a coastal storm that is going to work its way up wednesday around 2:00 p.m. the european model gives us a chance for possible snow and a rain/snow mix. we're going to continue to update this every day. we'll let you know what the

i'm john clark. the flyers end their four-game losing streak. they're buzzing. check out wayne simmons grabs the rebound, drops it and 3-1, flyers. in the third, matt reed feeding coburn. the flyers win 4-2. and ron rexall chewed out the players. it worked. >> i think we had a good response. we played two strong games in a row. we go to long island and playing a good team on monday night. the sixers are 0-13. two losses away from matching their worst start in franchise history. fourth quarter, sixers down big. but this was the most complete game. a nice jump hook.

villanova hopefully earned a first-round bye in the subdivision playoffs with a win today. this is 42 yards. the cats fight off a comeback. they finish the season 10-2. after 23 years of penn football their coach got him a win in his finale. penn holds off cornell. and the quakers celebrate, giving him the gatorade bath. >> i have appreciated this group and through all the things they had to endure. so they've been a lot of fun to be around. i told them that friday night. and really, i'm part of the class of 2013. -- 2014. >> l1salle wins.
