election day is here. today voters head to the polls to pick our area's next generation of leaders and the results could be historic. >> the search for a young woman whose abduction was caught on camera. a reward is now being offered in the case as her mother sends out a desperate plea to the kidnapper. we are off to a much warmer start today than yesterday. already in the 50s this morning. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato. it is warmer in here, not just because of tracy's magical heater she keeps below the desk. h it's warmer outside, too. >> clouds overhead helping to keep things warmer this morning and not as windy, either. a little breeze coming out of the southwest today. warm temperatures from the 50s into the upper 60s. parts of the area might get

of marlborough. that's completely out of there. unfortunately, i can't say the same for the accident in new jersey. still out there in beverly on warren street between wilmerton street and jennings street. take church street. that is your best estimate to get around it. now to decision 2014. today is election day and in just a few hours people across the tristate area will start casting they votes. the polls open at 6:00 a.m. in new jersey and at 7:00 a.m. residents in delaware and pennsylvania could vote and all three states will close tonight at 8:00. voters choosing members of congress, but will there be any election day problems? jesse gary is live in northeast philadelphia and, jesse, you have been investigating preparations. explain that. >> yeah, tracy. i checked with election officials in both new jersey and delaware and so far no problems setting up for voters for later today when the polls open. here in philadelphia, one of the election commissioners told me that yesterday mailers went out sending thousands of voters to

the wrong polling place. officials say that mistake was caught early enough so they don't believe it will have an impact on election day. millions of ballots to be cast around the tri-state region. in philadelphia, district attorney seth williams created a special investigative unit to ensure election results aren't tainted by allegations of fraud. his new task force is comprised of assistant d.a.s and detectives. the prosecution of election day crimes were assigned and based on where and when the complaints came into the office. now, one of those locations is jay hampden moore public school. coming up in the next hour investigating what happened here just months ago and what action was taken. we're live in northeast philadelphia this morning, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. on this election day, one of the bigger races we're following today, of course, who will be the next governor of pennsylvania. both candidates out on the campaign trail today during the final hours of campaigning. democrat tom wolf has several

stops scheduled in philadelphia this morning before he heads to york county and tom corbett will spend his day in pittsburgh and at polling places in allegheny county. now, keith jones for nbc 10 will be in pittsburgh today and lieu an kahn will be at the wolf camp and their reports at 4:00 and as their results roll in, you can count on nbc 10 for up to the minute results throughout the evening and reaction from the candidates tomorrow morning on nbc 10 news today. now to a story developing for more than 24 hours now. snatched from the street. that's what this surveillance video shows as a young woman struggles to fight off her kidnapper in germantown. katy zachary is back on that same street where that abduction took place with new developments. fill us in. >> since we've been here we've seen a number of police cruisers drive down slowly down this street the same block where

karlesha freeland-gaither was violently kidnapped. this is surveillance video. surveillance cameras caught him parking his four gray or silver car and you and see he follows her and then walks right up to freeland-gaither. the suspect grabs her and drags her down the block to his car. she kicked out two rear windows as she was forced in the car. the suspect drove off. carlesha freeland-gaither has not been seen or heard from since. there was a witness to this kidnapping and he spoke to nbc 10. you will hear from that witness about what he saw and what he heard and what he tried to do. reporting live in germantown, katy zachary. 4:35 now. it happened around 4:00 yesterday afternoon just a few blocks from the main campus in

dover kent county. that campus was on lockdown for about four hours after the shooting. the victim is in stable condition. investigators believe this was an isolated incident. delaware state university is closed today for election day. well, election day will not be smooth sailing at at least one local university. >> students for prepared to protest. the shift in training for future soldiers. battle of the bras. the local caw that got these men to parade around in brassieres.

now to decision 2014. in the sixth congressional district which covers parts of chester and burkes county democrat ttrivedi costello.

pat meehan is looking for his third term being challenged by mary. in the eighth house district fits patrick is running against kevin strouse. covers parts of bucks and montgomery counties. students at one of pennsylvania state universities will mark this election day by protesting over their polling place. students from cuts kutztown university will march to cast their ballots. they're protesting the closing of an on-campus polling place. university, faculty and administrators are expected to join today's march. now county election officials closed that polling place last year after residents complained about long lines and crowded parking lots. school officials, though, say the change has a great inconvenience for students who don't have cars. the student government will provide buss to the polls for students who decide not to march.

your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. a milder morning this morning. the temperatures are in the 50s. they're falling right now, but they're not going to go a whole lot lower. 53 degrees in philadelphia with a light breeze at seven miles an hour. that's 15 degrees warmer than yesterday. you can see the clouds that are us with, that's helping to keep things a bit warmer this morning and a few sprinkles, really isolated stuff showing up. those are mostly not even reaching the ground. so, stand by for a nice, mild afternoon. look at this weather. 63 degrees. doesn't look like november at all, does it? that's in the pocono mountains and 66 for reading and quakertown a high of 65. upper 60s for trenton, northeast philadelphia and mt. holly and a beautiful day right along the coastline. rehoboth 69 and upper 60s for vineland. plenty of sunshine after the clouds thin out. first thing this morning westchester see a high of 66 and 68 for philadelphia and voorhees.

at 4:44 breaking news to bring you out of oregon. a body has been found in the search for a missing boy whose mother claims she threw him over a bridge. the woman called 911 last night claiming that she threw her 6-year-old son off the bay bridge in newport. rescuers say they found the body of a boy about two hours ago. the mother has been taken into custody for questioning. 4:44 right now. today, minnesota vikings runningback adrian peterson is expected back in court on child abuse charges. peterson is considering a plea deal that would reduce his felony charge to a misdemeanor. that deal could be presented at

this afternoon's hearing. prosecutors say peterson used a wooden stick to discipline his 4-year-old son. the runningback has been banned from all team activities. this morning we're getting a look inside the abandoned airplane hangar where fugitive killer eric frein spent his final days on the run. he was captured walking unarmed in the pocono township on thursday. even in daylight, the hangar is in pitch black with an endless rumble of steel walls inside. a newly looking jar of fruit jelly. workers kept coming by to see the place that finally put an end to the seven-week-long manhunt. >> little bit of closure, as well? >> absolutely. this is where it is. it's done. he's captured. he's gone. >> now, nbc 10 has also learned the state police did not search that hangar prior to frein's arrest. the hangar was not searched until a newly arrived team of

u.s. marshals was assigned there to the area last thursday. frein has two court appointed. cory brooker will try to hold on to his new york senate seat. he faces a challenge from republican jeff bell. bell also ran for senate back in 1978. democratic state nornorcross is taking gary cobb in the race for the first congressional district. the two are looking to fill the seat left vacant when rob vanders announced his resignation back in february. republican frank low is in a tight race between bill hughes jr. he is the son of lobhondo's predecessor. democrat amy belgard is taking on tom macarthur looking to

replace john ronion. it is an election day. in just a few hours polls will be open in every state. tracie potts is in washington where it's all about who's going to control the senate. >> the senator from arkansas. >> reporter: 36 senate seats will be decided today. eight are too close to call. >> the vast majority of them are taking place in states that the president did not win in the last presidential election. >> reporter: how soon will we know. georgia and louisiana could end up in runoffs. plus, more than one in four voted early. thousands of mail-in ballots may not even arrive until well after election day. >> we're probably going to be waiting a little while before we understand or learn who will be on the majority in the senate. >> reporter: 36 states elect governors today, half of those are toss-ups. and all 435 house seats are up for grabs. the justice department is sending poll watchers to more than two dozen districts.

those will be thinning out and these temperatures will climb in some areas near 70 degrees this afternoon. wilmington 52 degrees and 51 in trenton north and west and potstown is at 50 degrees and 51 in camden and low 50s for blackwood and voorhees at 51 degrees. a milder start in part because of the clouds that are producing a few sprinkles. look at how they're really not impressive at all. more impressive is what is waiting for us for thursday. these showers are going to start moving in first thing early thursday morning. but not today. moving out the door, don't forget your sunglasses. even though we have clouds to start with, bright sunshine and temperatures well above normal. the normal high temperature is 60 degrees and middle to upper 60s this afternoon. seven-day forecast despite the clouds coming in for tomorrow, another mild one and even warmer tomorrow morning, 50 degrees to start with. here comes the rain, potentially heavy at times on thursday, especially later in the day on

nchsh four minutes before 5:00. after a student was raped on halloween. accused of offering the 19-year-old victim a ride home, sexually assaulting her and then dropping her off near a residence hall on friday morning. police tracked down his car and arrested him. an uidapdate this morning o suspicious vehicle at a bus stop. a car belonged to the contractor in the area. the bus driver saw the vehicle several times and became suspicious and reported it. they no longer consider the car suspicious, but they do appreciate the bus driver's

awareness. investigators say someone set this fire in bucks county and they're looking for that arsonist. nbc 10 brought you this as breaking news yesterday morning. seven tractor trailers caught fire on clyde drive. those trucks were on fire inside a gated parking lot there. no one was hurt, but the damage is estimated between $300,000 and $500,000. a worker from camden county is dead after a freak accident at a construction site in north jersey. that worker was killed by a one-pound tape measure that fell 50 stories from a building that's under construction in jersey city. the tape measure fell out of another worker's belt. 58-year-old gary anderson was hit in the head. police say he was not wearing a hard hat. one local school district is taking extra precautions to keep students safe from ebola. the upper darber school district has posted a message on its school district for students that travel abroad. any students returning from west africa will have to been asked to have been in this country for

21 days before going back to class. the u.s. army may soon relax its fitness standards for new recruits. the army's top recruiting officials says the next generation of soldiers need to be more equipped at cyberwar fare. an instructional change to recruit the type of soldiers they want and some believe that could transfer to physical standards for troops. a big idea leads to a big pay day for some high schoolers. students in north wilmington got an $8,000 grant from mit to help make a larger, more refined vurshz of this device. it's designed to help hospitals remove from linens. students got the idea after meeting with employees who told them that those items often get left in the laundry and could put workers at risk. >> and they have to go through all this procedure because they don't know what that needle was used for and that cost them a
