so will the temperature. we'll be up around 80 degrees again this afternoon. right now the showers are to our west. just some light showers that are glancing past western lancaster county right now. the heavier rainfall and the potential for thunderstorms for later today, those storms are in western pennsylvania and into west virginia. that's where some of the heaviest rainfall is falling right now. severe thunderstorm warning now in effect for portions of eastern west virginia. 70s for now. we're at 70 degrees in wilmington, philadelphia, pottstown, atlantic city. a warm start and a breezy one, too. the flags are blowing across the area and those winds will be gusting to near 30 miles an hour this afternoon. this morning any breaks in the clouds will be limited. scattered showers in the western suburbs. 73 degrees at 9:00 and then 77 degrees and still climbing at lunchtime today. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back, but first, jillian mele has your traffic. good morning, jillian. good morning to you.

let's focus on the western suburb areas. the roadways out there. you can see average speeds looking pretty good, in the mid-50s on route 202, mid-50s on route 1, and even the route 30 bypass, we're seeing average speeds at 54 miles per hour. then we'll take you to a live look. that's a pretty dark look, though, at the route 30 bypass right near 322. you can see not too many drivers out there, no accidents to report on 202, 422, route 30 bypass. heading to delaware county, 95 at route 420, you can see all is quiet there. any of the overnight construction that we had on 95 has been cleared. we had some on 76. that is also cleared. your drive times between the blue route and the delaware state line on 95 about 7 to 8 minutes right now. no delays to report there. if you're taking mass transit this morning, including all of the septa regional rail lines, as everything gets up and running, it is on or close to schedule. tracy? we have breaking news just into the newsroom within the past several minutes. another health care worker in texas tested positive for the ebola virus. this worker also provided care

to thomas duncan after he was diagnosed with ebola. the worker reported a fever yesterday and is now isolated at the hospital. this development comes as other nurses who treated duncan say they worked for days in dangerous conditions. national nurses united claims the nurses worked without proper protective gear and dealt with changing protocols. they also say the entire lab specimen delivery system could have been contaminated. dozens of hospital workers are being monitored. federal health officials now admit that the government was not aggressive enough in containing the virus there and they could have been more hands on with the hospital staff once ebola was diagnosed in the original patient. and a disturbing forecast out from the world health organization. they say within the next two months, west africa could face up to 10,000 new cases of ebola every single week. now, here in our area, delaware county has created its own ebola task force, and members of that team will be meeting this morning to discuss how prepared schools are. nbc 10's katy zachry is live

outside upper darby high school with more. katy? >> reporter: hi, tracy. every year, the district attorney in delaware county holds a safe school summit. usually, they talk about things like child abuse and bullying, but of course, this morning the ebola virus is at the very top of that list. now, the goal of this task force is to have a working group that can be called in if the ebola virus or enterovirus d-68 traveled into delaware county. yesterday, county leaders created the ebola and infectious disease task force. they'll be at this morning's summit. they say local emergency responders have the training they need to respond safely to a potential ebola case, but there is more they need to talk about. >> the process of putting this task force together, we are going to identify where the best care could be rendered to the individual and in what setting and at what hospital. >> reporter: and at 6:00 a.m., you'll hear from the county's medical adviser again, where he shares his biggest concern about the ebola virus. reporting live in upper darby,

katy zachry, nbc 10 news. meantime, eebola screenings at four more u.s. airports will start tomorrow. customs and health officials at washington, chicago and newark will take the temperatures of passengers arriving from three west african countries. screeners will use no-touch thermometers and try to find passengers with fevers. the screenings started at new york's kennedy international on saturday. customs officials say about 150 people travel daily through liberia, sierra leone or guinea to the united states. and we could be seeing more confirmed cases of enterovirus d-68, thanks to a new test. the cdc has started using this faster test to diagnose the virus, and it's expected to speed through a back log of cases. that's why we may see the numbers of enterovirus d-68 spike in the coming days. now, since august, that virus is believed to have sickened hundreds of children across the country, including 4-year-old eli waller of hamilton township, mercer county who died of the virus last month.

intensive cleaning is being done at several schools in ocean county. the custodial crew at barnegat high school is disinfecting all surfaces touched by students and staff. concern over enterovirus d-68 and ebola prompted jackson township to clean eight playgrounds. >> want to make sure what we did is, if not so much as eliminate it, decrease the chance of them getting sick. >> i don't know if it's actually going to help, but i do appreciate that they're doing something to be proactive about it. >> the schools also say that they're using disposal paper towels instead of cloth rags to wipe down surfaces. they're hoping that that will cut down on possible transmission. you can learn more about ebola and enterovirus d-68 at nbc10.com. there you'll find detailed information on how those viruses are spread, plus warning signs. new from overnight, police are investigating a shooting that left two men wounded. it happened around 12:30 this morning on west wellens avenue in the olney section of philadelphia. houses and parked cars were hit

by stray bullets. the two victims are in stable condition and police are looking for the shooter. also new from overnight, a man is in critical condition after he was thrown from his car in an accident in philadelphia just after 2:00 this morning on the inner drive of the boulevard in ronhurst. police say the driver lost control of his car and smashed into a tree. 5:06 now. a developing story. the coast guard will resume its search for a man who was jet-skiing in stone harbor, cape may county. the search involves 68-year-old thomas graham. officials say he never came home after jet-skiing in the bay. he was last seen in the area of the 1100 block of stone harbor boulevard. 5:06 right now. there is new information on a restaurant robbery in bucks county. police say they arrested two people of interest in friday's holdup at bar louie in bensalem township. investigators say three to five armed and masked men forced employees into a walk-in freezer before robbing the restaurant. one worker was injured by a stun gun. a montgomery county jury has sentenced a man to death for

murdering a 10-month-old girl and her grandmother. raghunandan yandamuri showed little emotion as the sentence was read in norristown last night. the jury convicted him of killing sanvi venna and her grandmother in a kidnapping for ransom scheme in 2012. lawyers for both sides say they were not surprised by the jury's decision. >> both mr. heckman and i felt that if he had expressed remorse, we would have had a better chance to save his life, but that wasn't his strategy, and accordingly, here we are. >> a formal sentencing hearing for yandamuri will be scheduled later this fall. seven minutes after 5:00. happening today in delaware county, a former collingdale councilman will be sentenced for stealing millions of dollars from his old place of work. james bryan pleaded guilty to forgery and theft charges. authorities say as he was working for wescott electric, bryan swiped nearly $3 million over 11 years to support a gambling addiction. bryan resigned from the collingdale borough council last

year. in the manhunt for state police killer eric frein, there are new concerns that the fugitive could strike again. frein has been on the run for 34 days now. he is accused of shooting two pennsylvania state troopers in the poconos, killing one of them. the state police commissioner said his concern over frein attacking again is based on a review by behavioral scientists p.m.. now to "decision 2014." both the president and the first lady will be in this area today. michelle obama will be campaigning for tom wolf, the democratic candidate for governor of pennsylvania. they'll be in the cedarbrook section of philadelphia, where nbc 10's monique braxton will have a live report coming up at 5:30. meantime, president obama is traveling to union, new jersey, for a democratic senatorial campaign committee event. and while the first lady is in town for his opponent, incumbent governor tom corbett has events today. the recent quinnipiac university poll shows tom wolf with a 55%-38% lead over governor corbett. that poll was released last week, as was another survey from

it is 5:14. if you're just joining us, we have breaking news. within the past 30 minutes, we have learned another health care worker in texas has tested positive for the ebola virus. this worker also provided care for that patient who eventually died from ebola. this comes one day after nurses there said they had to work in dangerous conditions. we're continuing to follow this story. we'll bring you any new developments throughout the morning. happening today, a brand new full-scale supermarket will celebrate its grand opening in camden.

it is significant. shoprite is opening today, bringing with it dozens of jobs for that city. as the city of camden gets ready to battle blight and remove neighborhood eyesores, yesterday, mayor dana redd announced that the city will demolish 598 vacant or abandoned buildings in camden. the mayor calls it "the biggest demolition initiative ever at m attempted in the city or the state." right now, the city is soliciting bids for the first phase of the demolition. >> neighbors living around those abandoned buildings are tired of the rodents and criminals that the vacant properties attract. >> this eyesore. we've got raccoons as big as, i don't know, tire on the car. >> we're looking at our homicides over the last year. more than half of them have occurred inside some type of structure, which is -- it's a win for us to be able to suppress the flagrant violent criminal activity. >> demolition and development will go hand in hand as part of camden's revitalization. here's a look at where the new

pricerite grocery store is opening up today along mt. ephram avenue. jesse gary is live outside that new store where a lot of people are excited about this. >> and you mentioned the impact. it's really two-fold. the ability to shop for food is one, but tell us about the other. >> reporter: tracy, the ability to do that shopping and buy food contingent on your ability to work and earn a paycheck and this opening means dozens of full and part-time employees on the books. in preparation for today's opening in just a few hours, shelves were loaded with products and owners say the people doing much of this work have been with the business family for several years and have steadily worked up the ranks. when the pathmark here closed last year, over 200 jobs were lost. the path to partial recovery starts right here. >> we're bringing 80 jobs that will be here week in, week out to support the community, and hopefully, we'll be able to grow from there. >> reporter: and that's growth in the number of jobs and in the number of stores. i'll have that part of the story of the revitalization for the

we've got clouds, no showers, but you might want to take an umbrella with you. showers will be developing this morning and we could see some heavy downpours this afternoon. right now a really warm start in the city. we're in the 70s! 70 degrees at philadelphia international. the humidity high at 84%, but no sign of any fog this morning. visibility's excellent at 10 miles. we've seen a bit of a breeze at times, some gusty winds. the winds will be increasing as the day goes on along with the threat of showers. right now a few spots in the 60s. doylestown and trenton. 72 in northeast philadelphia. it's 70 in audubon. it has dropped to 66 in haddonfield, 70 degrees in voorhees and just below the 70-degree mark for cherry hill and glendora. a warm start and it's going to be another warm afternoon like we had yesterday, near 80 in the afternoon. we're seeing some breaks in the clouds to the south, so there will be some sunshine in delaware and south jersey, but it's going to be brief, because this is what's going to be moving in. and behind these clouds, showers

and some thunderstorms. and heavy downpours most likely later in the day, but we could see some pretty good showers developing this morning. first thing, just some scattered showers in the area. that's at 7:00 this morning. by later in the morning, you can see the showers intensifying a bit in northeastern maryland. by 11:00 a.m. we could see some downpours in some of the western suburbs, and that threat will be increasing as the day goes on. along with the temperatures. near 80 this afternoon. the seven-day forecast. tomorrow will be a little bit cooler, and storms overnight will settle down to scattered showers during the day with some late-day sunshine. we'll be drying out on thursday. if we don't get the sunshine on thursday, we will on friday. nice and sunny, 72 degrees and a breezy weekend is what we'll get for the shredder event on saturday. lots of sunshine sunday. sunday, though, along with monday and tuesday, will be cooler. and tuesday we'll see the return of clouds with a chance of more showers.

three, two, one. >> here we go! >> happy new year. >> and construction is now under way on a new riverfront trail in northeast philadelphia. mayor michael nutter and other officials took part in that groundbreaking yesterday for the new baxter trail. it will be part of the north delaware riverfront greenway. here's how it works. the new trail is 1.8 miles long. it will provide an important link between pennypack park on the delaware river and pleasant hill park. also, a 12-foot-wide asphalt trail will connect to the pennypack trail. now, the mayor says he hopes this project will encourage all residents to get out and exercise and explore the city. i am firmly committed to many of these projects, especially with regard to the delaware river. there are so many, many more things for us to see and to know and experience and to truly appreciate about what we have here. >> he says baxter trail is one of many planned construction projects aimed at bringing new life to the delaware riverfront. a major milestone today for

morning. toyota has announced it is recalling 1.7 million cars because of a potential brake problem. this affects the crown, noah and auris cars as well as a dozen lexus models. toyota says there have not been any accidents or reported problems associated with this recall. as the economy improves, so do the prospects for college graduates. morgan brennan is here with that story and more in this morning's "cnbc business news." also, morgan, big companies are releasing earnings reports today. tell us about that. >> reporter: that's right, we're in the thick of corporate earnings season. futures are lower after a mostly flat day for the markets. the dow ending in the red, but the nasdaq snapped a three-day losing streak. investors may react today to good earnings from intel. that was the first major tech company to report results. and railroad operator csx. today we're getting more numbers from bank of america, american express and ebay, also data on retail sales and inflation. now, job prospects for college grads, those are improving.
