>> announcer: nbc 10 news stashts now. . >> right now, at 11:00, a philadelphia firefighter accused of impersonating a police officer. why that's just part of the trouble that landed him behind bars. a developing story. an nbc news crew member covering the ebola crisis tests positive for the disease. plus, the same weather system leaving a tail of destruction heads our way. we begin with a new case of ebola. nbc news freelance georjournali has tested positive while in liberia.

nbc 10's keith jones is following the latest develop. s from our digital operation center. >> that's right. every single person on that crew is in quarantine right now. the 33-year-old is now the fourth american diagnosed with the deadly disease. he was hired by nbc news on tuesday. but he had been working in liberia for the past three years. he started feeling symptoms yesterday. tired, achy and a slight fever. among the fore member, dr. nancy schneiderman, she was just interviewed over the phone on msnbc. here's a little bit of what she said under quarantine still in africa. >> we will be taking our temperatures twice a day. if any one of us spikes a fever,

we will report ourselves to authorities. we are taking it seriously, but i want people to know we are well. >> they're not releasing the camera man's identity at the request of the family. the company is doing everything that i have can to get the best possible treatment for this employee. they're being closely monitors. and, of course, when they get back, there's a conservative effort to keep@ly them under quarantine for 21 days. this isn't the only big development happening, though. font, liberian authorities plan to prosecute the first person diagnosed in the u.s. thomas duncan said in his airport questionnaire he did not have any contact with people affected with ebola. he's recovering in a texas hospital. >> all right, kooet. are local militaries playing a role in giving aid to liberia.

two military air kraft helping in the battle against isis, as well. they're delivering cargo and troops to the u.s. syrian border to aid in air strikes fighting isis. >> breaking news in the kensingt kensington, philadelphia. 30 minutes ago, three people shot at lee and clear field streets. so far, no arrests. we're going to work on getting up dates to let you know as soon as we have more information on three people shot in kensington. tonight, a high-ranking philadelphia fireman is accused of impersonating an officer and sexually assaulting a woman. >> reporter: well, jim, police say that a lieutenant is behind bars tonight after his victim managed to break free and call police. at the time of his arrest, he was still wearing his fire

uniform pants which may have aided his impersonation as a police officer. >> he's the veteran philadelphia fire department lieutenant who's accused of sexually assaulting a woman all while posing as a philadelphia police officer. >> reporter: this all unfolded around 10:30 last night. >> once inside the vehicle, he said he will not arrest her if she performs some type of sexual act. >> police say the 48-year-old victim complied before she managed to break free and jump out of the pick-up. >> once she escaped the vehicle, she called 9-1-1. >> the cops were a few blocks away and it was then that they realized he was an 18-year veteran assigned to ladder 18 in north philadelphia. tonight, we stopped by his

lawncrest home but no one wanted to talk. >> he's weird. he's strange. i tell you, he barely talked to people around here. >> but he adds, he never thought he was capable of doing this. >> i never knew he was that type of person. >> reporter: meantime, we called the fire department tonight and they said they're not ready to comment. >> this developing story out of dallas tonight. crews are working to restore power to thousands of people. winds were clocked as high as 90 miles an hour. at the height of it, more than 160 rk 160,000 customers were left without power. part of that same system will move through our area. >> yeah, jim, i want's all part of the same weather system,

although we don't expected weather like that. but there is a lot of severe weather moving through the middle of the country. and it's all bauds of a cold front. much cooler air moving in behind it. and that will be setting us up for so much colder temperatures by sunday. locally, though, we are nice and dry across the area. temperatures are still on the cooler side, around 64 degrees in philadelphia. through the lehigh valley, low 60s here. 61 atlantic city and dover. we'll once again be dropping down into the 50s. by 8:00 in the morning, clouds will still be arnold. mix of clouds and sun tomorrow. >> a philadelphia synagogue is reeling from the murder of its cantor on the eve of i don't mean to rom kippur.

the suspect is 33-year-old jonathan williams. police say they lived blocks apart and had an argument. ronald fishman served as cantor at mishkan shalom sin gok in roxborough. >> he was one of the most come parable nat people i know in terms of giving himself. >> a philadelphia man is stabbed to death just feet from a local university. and police say they now have someone is custody for it. nbc 10 in the 3200 block of somer street in the city's powelton village neighborhood. police say the 57-year-old man's body was found inside a home just before 8:00 tonight. he had several stab wounds. police took a suspect into custody and are now trying to

piece together exactly what led to the stabbing. tonight, philadelphia police officer kenneth allen is under arrest for allegedly assaulting a female officer. first told you about this story, monday night at 11:00. allen is a three-year veteran working out of the 18th police district. inves fwa gaitors say he attack his partner after an argument got heated. tonight, inves gay toshs say allen assaulted her for a total of three times. he's now suspended for 30 days and commissioner ramsey says he'll likely be fired. 76 million households were impacted. jp morgan chase says there's no evidence information was stolen. the computer hacking happened in june. it was reported in july.

new at 11:00, a huge landfill will bring in tens of millions of dollars. nbc 10's george spencer has been studying the sale tonight and joins us live from the arch diocese headquarters in center city. george, some neighbors already concerned about development possibilities for that land? >> reporter: yeah, jim, some are. after afterall, this does involve one of the largest parcels in delaware county. these land sales will create critical income. income that should help sure up shaky balance sheets. through the window of our news van tonight, you get a sense of this 200 acre expanse in broomall. since the '60s, the property has housed disable sills. is the sale is shuddering that

home and opening up the land for commercial and residential development. no matter what it's going to be some big changes? >> it will be. a lot of times, you can't stop change. >> joe butler says the community is watching that change closely. he tells us the most persistent concern is that already-crowded roads may get worse. >> with more development comes more traffic. >> they're also selling 50 acres in chester and 450 acres in north hamton county bringing in 56 million dlarsz. it's cash that will go towards the primary goal of archbishop, stabilizing the finances of the arch diocese which has been operating at a $39 million annual deficit. >> i would say there are mixed emotions. >> reporter: transitioning his tenants has been a gradual effort for nearly two years now.

daniel social security the man who actually beat carol newlander to death at her home. new lander is serving life in prison. his accomplice was also released from prison in january. tonight, a clear picture of a man wanted for an attack of a popular trail in chestnut hill. >> the woman who was attacked helped police come up with the sketch and hope someone recognizes this man and turns them in. >> you can walk the path, you can be up there for hours, probably and not run into anyone. >> reporter: but police say last friday, a woman on a hiking trail did run into someone who looks like this. about 6 feet tall, wearing a red

bolo-style shirt with white letters. police say he assaulted a 51-year-old woman, demanded money, forced her to the ground, choked her and asked for sex. there was a struggle and the woman got away. we showed the sketch to women walking the trails tonight. >> now that i'm aware of that, i guess i'm going to be a little bit more aware of, you know, going out on the trail. >> i'm usually with other people. i'm usually never by myself. >> police say that's a good idea. officers regularly keep an eye on the well-traveled area at the valley green entrance, but many enjoy the hike on the steeper material rab. >> normally, i'm up in the trails. so i'm going to be a little bit alert. >> take another look at this sketch. police ask if you know anything about a possible suspect, you call right away. live from the special victims unit, nbc 10 news. >> high honors for this group of philadelphia judges tonight.

mid to low 60s across the area. tomorrow morning, we'll be waking up to temperatures in about the upper 50s. so pretty comfortedble in the morning u too. locally, we're dry. have some clouds around. could see some early fog mainly north and west. really, it's the weather off to our west that we're wamping. this is very severe right now. by the time it gets to us, it should not be like this. we are expecting rain with possibly some thunderstorms. but it will be moving through starting off your weekend. behind it, we have some cooler air. that will get that to move in once the rain leaves. so, until then, we'll stay in the 70s. future weather, overnight tonight, dry, some fog. earl lit in the morning, through noon, we'll start to see more sunshine. everyone through the afternoon. and then late, more clouds move in. about 9:00 a.m., we're still

dealing with the rain moving in. right now, our air mass is pretty much in the 60s. all of this air will eventually make it into our region. it's really sunday morning when that colder air sets in so it will feel like football weather as we go into sunday. so, your eagles forecast going into sunday, upper 50s by 1:00 p.m. by 4:00 p.m., temperatures only topping out in the mid 60s. so it is certainly going to be a cooler day. for tonight, though, we're in the upper 50s by tomorrow morning in philadelphia. low 50s north and west with some patchy fog developing late tonight. best chance of that should be areas of north and west philadelphia. rain mainly after mid night. it should be a fairly dry day.

injury and his status for wednesday's season opener is unclear. meanwhile, the game went to a shootout. a chance for the cavs. a little round about way. shooting and scores. cavs within the shootout 2-0. flyers game starts for real wednesday at boston. let's talk about eagle's line backer when he's still likely to miss his third straight game on wednesday. boykin returns to practice today after missing the last two days with a hamstring injury. after a breakout season last year, riley cooper has gotten off to a sluggish start, that includes a go ahead touchdown pass. cooper was asked today how he assesses this season thus far. >> i feel like i got to make a couple plays. i've got two, i mean, i've dropped two touchdowns this year. so that's bad. but everything else, i feel like i've been playing good football.

update on the breaking news in kensington. we're told all three victims are expected to survive. so far tonight, no arrests. >> and we are looking at a pretty nice day tomorrow. we're going to be dry, a mix of clouds and sun. tempature dropping out in the mid 70s. after about mid night tomorrow into saturday morning, we have rain moving in. we could see some thunderstorms, so it will be here early in the day saturday. clearing out in the arve noon. temperature ins the 40s. some areas north and west could be waking up to temperatures near 30 degrees on sunday. in the afternoon on sunday, we only top out in the mid 60s. so for the eagle's home game, it's going to feel like football weather.
