nbc 10. we've just learned that four kids were treated at children's hospital of philadelphia for the enterovirus. we checked with hospital officials who tell us four kids have been treated and all released. the cdc says over the past month 130 people have been infected with the virus in 12 states. in delaware, health officials are waiting for cdc test results to come back to determine if the virus has spread. at ai dupont hospital, an area has been set aside just for kid who show up with respiratory problems. here's a look at all the symptoms for this virus, fever, runny nose, sneezing and cough. patients have a skin rash, mouth blisters as well as body and muscle aches. this just in, in the past few minutes, philadelphia police released this surveillance video of suspects wanted for a hate crime, assault in rittenhouse. the video was taken last thursday night on the 1600 block of chancellor street. police say they're looking for a

group of 15 men and women in their early 20s. the two victims say they were attacked because they're gay. the men tell nbc 10 they were walking to get pizza when they were confronted by at least a dozen men and women. someone in the group asked if they were a couple. when they answered yes, they were attacked. >> new information now on the weekend shooting death of a pregnant woman and her baby. today philadelphia police released this picture, 27-year-old devin gashard is wanted in the shooting. nbc 10's rosemary connors went to the suspect's house today. >> rosemary, you talked to a family member. what is she telling you about the allegations against devin? >> we'll get to that in just a moment. within the past 25 minutes, i heard from the lawyer of the suspect. he e-mailed me to say there have been some discussions regarding a timely surrender in order to clear his client's name. as you mentioned, i also spoke to the suspect's sister. she was there this morning when police served the warrant on

their family's house which is just a few blocks away from where the shooting happened this weekend. >> when they came in this morning they said he was a murderer. that's what they say, he was a murderer. and my brother's no murderer. he's not. >> the sister of murder suspect devin gashard did not hold back defending her brother. according to police, though, he's their man. >> considered armed and extremely dangerous. he has a violent history when we need to get him off the streets. >> he's accused of firing the stray bullet that struck and killed 25-year-old megan doddo, who was sitting outside on adams avenue in frankfurt on sunday. she was eight months pregnant and the baby didn't survive. >> i understand she was a woman, she was pregnant but my brother did not do this! >> reporter: tasha wanted me to walk with her to the nearby corner where her other brother, david, was gunned down last month. her brother's death has received little attention, she says, and there's been no talk of reward

carried on a relationship with a 14-year-old student. nbc 10 was there as bridgett szychulski walked out of court in new britain this afternoon. the allegations stem from 2012 when szychulski taught band. she was currently teaching at central bucks high school south but was suspended last week. >> a young kid and a person who's in a certain position, this just isn't any adult. this is a teacher. this is very concerning. >> szychulski is charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and other charges. her preliminary hearing is set for october 6th. now to developing story, amtrak service is restored between washington, d.c. and philadelphia but it's limited. right now, only a single track is operating through the aberdeen, maryland area. norfolk southern freight train hit a support pole there earlier this morning. a live look now at 30th street station where it's going to be a tough go for commuters today.

service on the acela express and the northwest regional line has been halted for much of the evening rush. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with a mystery surrounding the discovery of an injured teenage girl. she was found unconscious in a northeast philadelphia park. >> now, she was open her way home from school when her afternoon routine took a detour. she woke up hours later with a head injury. nbc 10's doug shimell live this afternoon in northeast philadelphia. >> you talked to police and the girl's parents. what new information have you learned about what happened to her? >> well, the girl's mother said her daughter had actually gotten off a crowded septa bus on the way home from the school early to let people off. but when she tried to get back on, the doors closed and it left, which the mother said men the she had to walk north on the boulevard in the direction of the place she was ultimately found. >> how can a person do this to a child? >> nora has spent almost 24

hours next to her daughter's hospital bed since she was found lying unconscious along the roosevelt boulevard monday night. >> we were all just thinking the worst, because they told us she was unconscious. >> reporter: the 15-year-old was found by a passerby, not long after her parents told police she never came home from school. >> all she remembers getting off the bus to let some people out and next thing you know, she she's -- >> reporter: her mother says she tried to get back on the crowded septa bus but it sped away from cottman and the boulevard nearly three miles from her usual stop at grant avenue. detectives say she had bruises on her head, legs and thighs but her clothing was intact. >> they probably thought she was dead and left her there. >> reporter: the police special victims unit tells me the girl's injuries are inconsistent with a sexual assault yet they are awaiting test results for confirmation. coming up tonight at 6:00, the girl's mother would like to know who the person was that found her daughter and stayed with her

32-year-old victim in the head one time. >> the 32-year-old man whose identity has not been released died at the hospital. detectives will now decide if the shooting was justified. new video now of the man accused of killing a baby and botched kidnapping attempt. now, this is 27-year-old raghunandan yandamuri on his way into a montgomery county courtroom. today, jury selection began in his double murder trial. he faces the death penalty if he's convicted of killing 10-month-old saanvi venna and her grandmother. he's defending himself at the trial. prosecutors say he planned to hold the little girl for ransom to pay off his gambling debt. yandamuri was scheduled to organize he was forced to go to the victim's home by two men and they committed the murders. from our delaware bureau today, wilmington police

officers are giving community members a chance to see things through their eyes. the department is kicking off a citizens police academy. the eight-week course is designed to teach people about the police department. but police chief says one of the biggest goals is to build a relationship with people in wilmington. >> we have the technology, we have the investigators who are able to uncover a lot of crime, collect evidence. but when it comes to getting actual information and confirming things, we need that to come from the community. and in order for the community to give us that information, we have to have that level of trust built back. >> the course is free. those who attend will also learn about the procedures and pressures that come with law enforcement. philadelphia continues to prepare for the pope. ar an archbishop was in rome today. the pope says last month he wanted to attend the event next september in philadelphia.

nbc 10 breaking news. >> we continue to follow breaking news on nbc 10. police have identified eric matthew frein as the suspect in a deadly ambush of two pennsylvania state troopers. he is now on the run. it happened friday night in pike county outside the barracks. corporal bryon dickson was killed, trooper alex douglass was wounded. the suspect is described as a survivalist who has expressed a desire to kill police. another breaking story we're following this afternoon, our first confirmed cases of the enterovirus in philadelphia. churn's hospital tells nbc 10 they treated four kids who have all been released. this is children's hospital of philadelphia. we're trying right now to find out if the children are from our area. there have been more than 100 cases of the respiratory virus in some 12 states. also at 4:30, a proposal to put guns in the hands of pennsylvania teachers.

a bill has been introduced saying it could prevent a future school massacre. teachers and administrators would have to be licensed to carry. >> as you can imagine, the idea is not going over very well with everyone. nbc 10's deanna durante is live in bensalem, bucks county. >> you've been sampling reaction to this idea from educators and lawmakers. what are they telling you? >> the short answer is they do not support the idea of having guns in schools like these around children. now, i did speak with the state senator's office, the man who's proposing this bill and his office tells me this isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. it merely would give school districts an option. >> i'm kind of flabbergasted, actually. i think that the only guns in schools should be in the hands of highly trained first responders. >> dr. david bayh is responsible for the more than 6,000 students that attend bensalem schools. he says arming teachers isn't

the way to go and neither do bensalem parents we spoke with. >> i don't agree with that. just because gun control is really harsh right now. and everything that's going on with the kids,ç no. >> state senator don white of indiana county wrote the bill. parents in bensalem say guns should be carried by police, senator white's office tells me his bill is designed for rural districts where police response times can be 20 to 25 minutes long. white's office says the bill would not make it mandatory that guns are inside schools but allow them for a choice. one this local mom says she's already made. >> it might go off or you leave it with someone and they pick it up. i don't think that's safe. >> you don't think it would make the school safer? >> i think it would make it worse. then everybody's going to start carrying guns around to work and

1991 death of her 5-year-old son went before a judge in new jersey today, michelle luzinski said her son disappeared at a carnival. his skeletal remains were found in a marshy area of edison 11 months later. luzinski's attorney says she adamantly denies the charges. today marks the one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at a washington navy yard. >> arthur daniels. [ bells toll ] >> during the ceremony today, a bell rang as each victim's name was announced. the victim's family, survivors and emergency workers talked about what this past year has been like and how their lives have changed. the 12 victims were killed when a civilian contractor opened fire inside the building. eight others were hit but

this is nbc 10 news. there's a new type of blood test that could help diagnose depression in adults. scientists at northwestern university say the test measures the levels of nine blood markers. in preliminary trials, people already diagnosed with clinical depressions shown different markers in their blood. the testify was also able to measure the effectiveness of behavioral therapy. scientists say larger studies are still needed. today native american leaders launched a new campaign

to get the washington redskins to change its name. at a meeting in washington, d.c. today, the group called the redskins named racist and demands it be changed immediately. the group says since the nfl receives special tax treatment from the u.s. government they should be held to a higher standard. at today's gathering, they urged the washington redskins to stand on the right side of history. >> well, it's a defined term. washington, our word, it's a dictionary defined racial slur. there's no way it can be used to honor a people. >> as part of their change the mascot campaign, a letter has been sent to the owner of each team in the nfl asking for support. today a message to home owners. >> it's one that could cost them. turns out they can judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a house, and they will, by

check this out. a man armed with a machete and two accomplices robbed a new york city restaurant while a customer sat at the bar. trio walked in on friday, police say, threatened the bartender and made off with all the cash from the register. the really odd detail here is that one customer did not move

during the entire heist. you can see him at the top of your screen. he apparently told police he had been staring at his phone the whole time and did not know what was happening. some drivers in a popular jersey shore town might be in line for refunds of their parking tickets. a judge ruled point pleasant beach's parking ordinance is unstugsal. the judge found signs don't sufficiently mote irists that they must display the receipt on the driver's side. now to decision 2014. immigrants living in philadelphia are being encouraged to register to vote. the mayor's office of immigrant and multicultural affairs set up a table in love park to help people with the registration process.

businesses, there are about 100 that continue to be neglected. >> do you want to lose the ability to sell something and repair your mortgage? >> he expects the ordnance to pass. $1,500 in fines daily he wants that to grab the attention of property owners and act and act fast. pat murphy applaud the effort to rescue their property values. >> there are at least 20 houses in that neighborhood that are like that, tall grass everywhere. especially if you live next to one of those houses, it's embarrassing. >> reporter: and, again, brown does believe this ordnance will pass tonight and send a swift message to the mortgage companies so ultimately they keep those properties for resale at $1,500 a day, one month of fines would amount to some $45,000. tonight's meeting happens at 6:30. it is open for public comment.

nbc 10 news starts now. prime suspect. philadelphia police say this is the man who shot and kill aid pregnant mother killing her and her baby. right now homicide detectives are looking for 27-year-old devon guisherd. >> they issued an arrest warrant for him this afternoon. nbc 10's rosemary connors went to the suspect's house today to speak to his family. you also just heard from his attorney. >> reporter: that's right. i've been e-mailing with the lawyer for the suspect who tells me there have been discussions about a timely surrender so the suspect, devon guisherd, can clear his name. i've also been checking in with police, at this point, they do not have any information related to that. as you mentioned, we did go by the suspect's home earlier today. we met some family members to tell me that devon guisherd was nowhere near the shooting when it happened. he was at home watching his

kids. >> stop trying to blame my brother for something he didn't do it! >> reporter: the anger and outrage is over the suspect, 27-year-old devon guisherd whom his sister, tasha, insists is innocent. he's wanted for the murder of 25-year-old megan doto and her baby who was delivered early and didn't make it. tasha and her family are frustrated because they lost a loved one to gun violence last month and his murder remains unsolved. >> they're not doing anything for this. >> reporter: police are confident guisherd is the shooter in megan doto's case. his target was not megan but a car driving down the block near adams avenue. >> he was shooting at a white four-door sedan that circled the block a couple times. we don't know who was in that vehicle. but he pulled out a gun and fired several times at this vehicle. one of the bullets ultimately went down the street and struck and
