county. we've been checking overnight. several thousand customers are still without power. most of the outages, gloucester county with 2300. kent county still has nearly 1,000. more than 1500 homes without power in montgomery county. let's find out what is ahead for the day in the first alert weather center. >> it was a dark and stormy night. we'll see the storms move out and take a break, an extended break this morning and afternoon. late today, more storms are likely. still clouds around. that's a live view of center city from the adventure aquarium. the rain had ended. there are some areas of fog forming. the rain quickly pushing off to the east and to the northeast moving through the new york area. the last rain drops moving through extreme eastern mercer county in new jersey. the temperatures are climbing back into the 90s. right now 75 degrees in

philadelphia. it is 69 degrees in millville. the numbers will not last in the low 60s. we'll be heading to the 80s this morning. a muggy morning. any fog around to start with will go out as the temperatures climb. 88 degrees and climbing at lunch time today. take a lack at arthur. when i come back at what it means for your fourth of july plans. that's when i come back. jillian mele has your traffic first. >> good morning, bill. it's quiet morning out there. we have an accident that i'm following for you in jenkintown, montgomery county. so watch out for lane restrictions athat intersection. you can also still watch out for spots of flooding out there in middle town township and bucks county and oxford valley road. trenlton road is an option if you need to get around it. heading to chester county, very quiet right now. this is the route 35 pass near 113. that is the eastbound side. eastbound is typically where we see the delays later in the morning. it's still just a little bit too early for that. the good news about this morning

is no accidents to report of any of the majors in pennsylvania, delaware, and new jersey. keep in mind, the roads are still wet so you need to use caution. >> hurricane arthur is impacting fourth of july celebration as cross our area. jesse gary is live in atlantic county with details on what is being postponed. >> reporter: one of the staples of the fourth of july holiday, fireworks shows. there are activities planned down here at the shore. and many communities large and small across the philadelphia region. take a look at our video. fireworks show annually, the day before independence day, july 3rd which is today. i checked in to see the impact of those plans from hurricane arthur. initially officials said the area is slated for 9:15 tonight. it would go off rain or shine. but with arthur now a hurricane and still gaining strength, they're being pro active. they decided to postpone the

fireworks until july 12th. so not tonight, july 12th. schedules will remain the same, though. it's due to postpone an activity that a lot of people find fun once they get to the circle. we'll talk about that coming up in the next half hour. we're live in atlantic county, new jersey. >> we brought you this story last night at 11:00. a $2 per pack cigarette tax that will help the philadelphia school districts cleared a major hurdle in harrisburg. last night the pennsylvania house passed the bill. it followed a two day lobbying effort at the state capitol by the philadelphia delegation. the measure now goes to the state senate. >> new jersey governor vetoed a bill that would have limited ammunition clips to ten rounds. current legal capacity is 15 rounds in new jersey. that bill would do nothing to

prevent mass shootings. instead, he called for a series of reforms to mental illness treatment. >> there are now tougher criminal penalties for anyone who hurts or kills a police animal in pennsylvania. the bill was signed yesterday that makes the offense a second degree felony with a sentence up to 10 to 25 -- up to 10 years and a 25,000 fine. >> the philadelphia man accused of stuffing his mother's body in a freezer is expected to turn himself in to police. william faces charges of abuse of a corpse. his mom's body was found in a freeder on tuesday after the police got a tip if the family saying she died of natural causes in january. her son's co-workers told nbc 10 he told them he was cashing his dead mother's social security checks. rescue crews plan to resume the search of the delaware river for a man who disappeared after his boat cap tiesed during the thunderstorms last night.

four people made it back to the shore but a 65-year-old man did not. he was last seen hanging on to a cooler in the river. the weather made for dangerous conditions on the water. >> the rains and winds began storming, it caused the 24 foot to capsize. >> now that missing man is described as an experienced boater. police say he was not wearing a life vest at the time. with another hot day ahead, officials are reminding everyone that is illegal and dangerous to jump into philadelphia's creeks to cool off. nbc 10 checked out the so-called devil's pool yesterday. despite the warnings, we found a lot of people in the water. 5:05. jay z is bringing the on the run tour to philadelphia. they'll take the stage in south philly on saturday night.

the show will benefit the charity, the shaen carter foundation which supports students. classic rock bands styxx and foreigner will take the stage in camden after their tour buses caught fire. no one was on the buses. they were parked in northern liberty when this happened. investigators are trying to determine how the fires started. tonight's show is at the us is question han why bank center. >> a steamy start this morning. the storms are out of here for now. the storms late today could very well turn severe. some of that moisture coming from arthur, now a category one hurricane. arthur is spinning off the carolina coast.

it will likely affect the shore with rain as we head into the fourth and a rip current threat which will be around for much of the holiday weekend. 75 mile an hour winds from arthur. it is going to take a more northeasterly course which will pull it off shore. for us, we'll see improving conditions as we head into the holiday weekend. for areas north and west, that's where the rain will end tomorrow. philadelphia will get a rainy start. we'll be in for steady rainfall breaking late in the day. because of the rain and a cold front that will come through to clear things out late in the day. the seven day forecast when i come back. >> let's get a check of the roads now. >> we know they are wet. bet's find out if there is any trouble spots specifically.

jillian mele? >> that's right, the roads are wet this morning. you can still expect to see some minor spots of flooding out there. we're dealing with an accident in jenkintown. that is at the intersection of old york road and washington lane. leave yourself a few extra minutes if that is part of your commute. this is a live look at the bridge. the bridge surfaces can be very slippery. the good news about the area bridges, not reporting any incidents. this is i live look in philadelphia. drivers head out to 76, there's where we see a delay. i'll keep an eye on the delays and keep you updated. for now, major roads across the area are in the clear. >> we're following breaking news out of cam den county. fire fighters are on the scene of a house fire on 39th street. it started in the past 15 minutes. we have no word of any injuries. katy zachry is on her way to the scene. she'll have a live report as

new information this morning, police in new orleans have a person of interest in custody in connection with that shooting on bourbon street. justin odom is in jail on unrelated charges. detectives are questioning him about the weekend shooting that started as an argument between

two men. ten bystanders were hit by gunfire. one of the victims, a 21-year-old woman, died yesterday. the government has ordered increased security at some overseas airport that's offer direct flights into the united states. officials are taking that action after counter-terrorism experts said groups in yemen and syria are working on a bomb that could make it through airport security undetected. heightened security is expected in airports in europe and middle east. it will not impact domestic flights. fire fighters in california say a wildfire burning in the napa valley is still growing. that fire has burned more than 3800 acres. hundreds of homes have been evacuated. now at this point officials say the fire is not threatening any of the area's famous vineyards. so far, in injuries have been reported either. >> here is a lesson for road crews everywhere, spelling counts. a contractor had a different way of painting the only sign there in the turn lane. or the noly lane as it is now called. they actually have tried to

correct the word but transportation officials say that it can't be corrected for 48 hours because of severe weather they're having there in north carolina. our severe weather moved through overnight. we have wet roads to contend with now. >> jillian mele has a look at that. >> just getting this in now. i just popped up this traffic camera. this is a live look at a car fire now on the blue ridge southbound. you can see all of that activity out there. the blue ridge is closed right now. you can see in this area, crews are attempting to extinguish that vehicle fire. a lot of activity out there. i just got word of this. i'll try to get more details in a few minutes. again, blue ridge southbound near baltimore pike, all lanes are temporarily blocked as a result of this vehicle fire. northbound side as can you see is moving along just fine. but a lot of activity out here, a lot of fire department activity. if you're heading on the blue route, be patient and leave yourself a few extra minutes. i'll see new a few minutes with an update. we have an accident?

general kin to jenkintown, roads are calm a quiet which is good news. keep in mind we're seeing some wet road conditions out there. >> now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> wet roads and areas of fog. this is going to be another hot and humid one. storms are out of here for now. late today, we're likely to see more strong storms and possibly more severe weather in the area. and the possibility of heavy rainfall will be with us tonight and into tomorrow. arthur is now a hurricane and marches up. cape sma cloudy right now and 72 degrees. clouds will thin out. we'll get sunshine and temperatures climb into the 80s along the coastline for cape mae. inland, back into the 90s. there is a chance of more severe

weather threat. a threat of severe weather as we head into the late afternoon and evening hours. even overnight tonight there is a possibility of strong storms. for now though, we're clearing out quickly. there is plenty of moisture on the ground that is left behind. still a pop-up shower possible this morning. future weather showing at 9:00 this morning, we could see an isolated shower or a thunderstorm off to the north and west. then we'll get some clearing. we'll see breaks of sunshine. warms temperatures up to 88 degrees at noon time. then into the 9 o's this afternoon. watch those storms. 4:00 this afternoon, well to the west. they'll be moving into the philadelphia area. this is when we could see the threat of severe weather in the area once again. so a flash flood watch in effect because of the potential for storms late today and into tonight. heavy rainfall, isolated amounts of one to three inches possible for our area. during the day, going to be sticky. temperatures into the lower 90s today. not as hot as yesterday.

definitely muggier. the mugginess stays around into tomorrow with rain that will be here. to start with, at least. then clearing skies north and west. you'll see the clearing first and then through philadelphia and eventually it's a chore for fireworks will be in good shape. and then a nice weekend ahead with lots of sunshine and less humid conditions. saturday and sunday we'll see temperatures in the 80s. then it's back into the 90s starting monday. >> let's take you back to this breaking news we're following out of camden county. firefighters at the scene of this house fire. this just started within the last 15 minutes. look at this photo we have here. right now we have no word on injuries or how the fire occurred. katy zachry is on the way there. she'll are a live report as soon as she gets the information. a new picture coming in from that fire. we'll have an update for you momentarily. >> it could soon be curtains for a well known philadelphia theater. we'll tell why you the prince music theater may be forced to close its doors this fall.

effect. evacuations in place there. we're'going see a tremendous impact for arthur, that's the good news. the storm is forecast to track eastward and north. but we'll see strong undertow and rip currents, more possible along the jersey shore. keep that in mind if your holiday plans take you there this weekend. and a live look here at center city. you can see the building from the low clouds offer the city. we have another chance of strong storms late this afternoon. bill hen sli back in a moment with that forecast. >> the american red cross is asking for donations to avoid a summer shortage. a lot of people take vacations so donations are down during the summer. a philadelphia theater may have to close because of money problems. our partners at the philadelphia business journal report that prince music theater will close november 30th unless someone can come through with $1.6 million.

and still clouds as well. that's a live view of cape mae from the lafayette hotel. you can see some thinning of the clouds there. we'll be watching more -- for more strong storms later today. how is the traffic right now, jillian? >> not so good if you're headinging out on the blue route. this is a vehicle fire that has just been put out on the southbound side of the blue route near the exit and entrances for baltimore pike which is number three. we have a big delay and i'll give you details if a few minutes. >> the long holiday weekend is product takely upon us. >> all eyes are on the weather and how now hurricane arthur could impact july 4th plans. jesse gary is live with details. jesse? >> reporter: tracy, already seeing impact here at the beach. look at that surf. turning up from the wind. affects from arthur all the way up here. we'll talk about the dangers from rip currents coming up.

news. three breaking news stories this morning. take a look at hurricane arthur. the storm was upgraded less than an hour ago. it is well to our south. it is expected to impact our weather through the holiday weekend. >> and we have this breaking news out of camden county. we're live on the scene where crews are battling a house fire. >> and we have breaking traffic news. this is a live look at the blue route. a car fire is causing a major delay there for people heading to work this morning. >> lots to get to this morning. good morning. welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> bill henley is tracking arthur. we just checked, several thousand customers are still without power today. gloust we are more than 2300. cumberland county has more than 1900. kent county, nearly 1,000 outages there. more than 1500 are in the dark in montgomery county. several towns that were going to have fireworks tonight have moved those events because of the weather.

a complete list and new dates and times, just log on to nbc10.com. right now let's go to bill henley with the forecast. >> we're seeing more showers pop-up after heavy storm came through last night. clouds are still overhead. there is so much moisture that came through. we're now seeing some areas of fog. you can see the low clouds and light fog in the city. the clouds will be thinning out. we'll get sunshine this afternoon. but right now we're tracking more wet weather. showers just popped up with some heavy rainfall in the west area moving through eastern lancaster county and chester count dwli morning. the heavy storms from overnight are off shore. now we're seeing spottiness also showing up in kent county in delaware. and fog, too. visibility less than a mile in coatsville. had been down to zero visibility in hazelton. dense fog there. quarter mile visibility and very light fog in northeast philadelphia and the trenton

area. isolated shower to start with. 88 degrees at lunch time. and then we're back in the 90s this afternoon. jesse gary is along the coastline where they're getting ready for the effects of now hurricane arthur coming up the coast. good morning, gary. >> bill, good morning to you. yeah. now it's getting brighter out site. the sun just peeking over the horizon. you can see the impacts on the surf here. surf is rough. look at those waves. all of this with officials warning of the dangers of rip currents. now look at our video. rip currents are created by a wave's energy that piles up along the water line, along the shoreline. experts say the water file up and then rushes back out to sea, back out to the ocean creating that rip current. people caught in them are pulled away from the shore and into the ocean. officials with the u.s. lifeguard association sayh
