11:30 pm
hit mike vick's arm coming out. i tell you what, two great open field blocks on that one, though, from jason peters and todd herremans. see if -- just hard to tell whether or not nick cole hit mike vick's arm or not but just before umenyiora he hit that ball by about an inch of knocking it down. amazing. what a game. >> al: the two-point conversion two avant to make it seven again. first place in the nfc east at stake. back and forth we go. 4:25. giants have all of their time-outs. 15 yard line. a good run back this time by will blackmon.
11:31 pm
to the 39 yard line. . giants start from their own 39. mccoy on the bike. manning has to reposition hagan into the slot on the right and then throws down field for hagan and it's intercepted by asante samuel off the deflection and back to the giant 42 and then the ball is out again!
11:32 pm
at the 42 yard line. so the eagles have it and the giants get it back. the giants get it back after samuel fumbles on the return! >> cris: i think it was ahmad bradshaw that got the hit to knock that ball out, so bradshaw returning the favor. you get the double move by hagan and it ends up hitting joselio hanson in the head and bounces off asianante samuel. let's see if ahmad bradshaw gets this hit. right on the ball. ball out. >> al: and giants come up with it. >> cris: what else? this is awesome. i love it! great hustle play by bradshaw. >> al: right. and rich you can call me whatever you want.
11:33 pm
>> cris: but give me the ball. >> al: he recovers it. ball at the 40. jacobs is now in the backfield at the 40 yard line. overall the giants on that play made it one yard. to the outside. to calhoun. duke is stopped at the 44 yard line. >> cris: it just shoorve better than that. they caught them in the perfect defense. they come with the slot blitz. you have the quick screen to the outside. this is the perfect call and they are not executing the plays. a slot blitz coming here. you got two blockers in front and they just missed the block. mario manningham has got to make that play. >> al: calhoun, rookie from memphis, first nfl catch. gain of four. second and six.
11:34 pm
under 3:30 now. eagles running stunts up front. manning's pass incomplete. intended for derek hagan. it will be third down and six. >> cris: that time, brandon graham got some quick pressure on the outside and forced eli to move out of the pocket. andy reid, boy, nice to see his young rookie making a play in a big moment. >> al: third and six. here they come again. manning almost gets sacked. gets it away and then it's dropped by jacobs. so it's fourth down now. what do the giants want to do here? they have all of their time-outs. do you go for it? do you punt?
11:35 pm
looks like coughlin is going for it. fourth and six. >> cris: you got to throw it hot. no choice. right there. you take one of those two guys. he tried to dance around with it and got it out of there but that is on eli manning. he missed it. >> al: fourth and six. giants going for it from their own 44 yard line. andy reid telling the crowd, come on, get into it! they are into it. >> cris: giants have all three time-outs. they could easily punt this football and play defense. >> al: they are afraid to. manning and he is going to run for it! he is going to get the first down! he gets to the 40 yard line and then as he goes down, the ball comes loose! there was a whistle. you heard the whistle. then there is a little fight that breaks out. you heard the whistle as manning went down. if you slide to a stop, that is the end of the play. if you dive, you're still in play until you get touched at the end of the play.
11:36 pm
here is manning. so he has to be touched before the ball comes loose. the ball looks like it's loose before anybody gets there. before he is touched, before he is down. there it is. and then samuel is there to come up with the ball and they are going to rule it a fumble. >> cris: i think what tom coughlin is saying -- >> referee: ball came loose. philadelphia recovered the ball. first down. >> al: that is the difference between going head-first and feet-first. feet-first, end of play. head-first, the play is still going until you get touched. >> cris: you can sort of declare yourself down but that is not one of those situations. eli is still here clearly going for yardage.
11:37 pm
he does not slide. without being touched, that ball is out. >> al: deja vu happened last year at the giants/eagles game at the end of the season with manning. >> cris: if he goes the other way, he is down the minute he starts to slide. >> al: coughlin is going to challenge it but i can't see where he wins this challenge. because i don't see where he was touched before the ball comes loose. even though the whistle had blown. >> cris: is there any contact at all here? i don't -- >> al: hand to foot? it's the left hand. >> cris: but the ball is already out. >> al: that's what i think. you can stitch the angles together here. >> cris: right there, the ball is loose. now the leg comes around. >> al: right. ball is on the ground. and it is out of his possession. so i don't see how coughlin wins this challenge.
11:38 pm
>> cris: it's a big choice by tom coughlin to challenge that, because at this point in the game, if you lose this one, you're losing a time-out and a much-needed time-out. >> al: it leaves you with two. it leaves you with two, plus the two-minute warning. again, you can stitch it together. there is one angle here where it looks like there is contact. there is the foot to the calf. but they can look at two separate angles and figure out exactly with when the ball came loose again, i don't know how it gets overturned. >> cris: i think the contact was clearly after the ball was out. unless somehow they rule that that first foot made contact but i didn't see that at all. >> al: unless they think they
11:39 pm
saw a putty cat, i don't see it. >> cris: plenty of time for the giants because you get two-minute warning and two time-outs. they just need a stop. >> al: see leg down. eli is down. ball is coming out. still alive, still alive, still alive. ball is out. there is contact. here comes winter. >> referee: after review, the ruling on the field is confirmed
11:40 pm
as a fumble. new york is charged with a time-out. that is their second challenge. they have no challenges remaining for the rest of the game. >> al: so the giants out of challenges with that, but that is moot after 51 more seconds. they have two time-outs and they also have a two-minute warning. if they can get a three and out is what they need right now, use the time-outs and take advantage of the two-minute warning and then get the ball back. there it is. turnovers. again, tonight it's been a killer for this team. shocking, because in all of the years that coughlin has coached going back to jacksonville and all of the years with the giants, at one point, he was the all-time leader in fewest turnovers per game. that reverts back to our colleague tony dungy. mccoy to the 40 yard line. giants take time-out number two. a good one here tonight.
11:41 pm
24-17 philadelphia. next week to indianapolis we go and the colts coming up a little short today against new england against san diego chargers who 3 play den ver tomorrow night. there is peyton today. 396 yards with three picks including a costly one at the end and that rivalry just gets better and better through the years. 31-28 new england. >> cris: for eli, he made such a great play to realize he could run and pick up the first down and then just sort of lost it, you know? just wasn't holding on to the football. >> al: second down and ten now with mccoy in the backfield. schmitt is the fullback. mccoy is figuring, well, not only use your time-out, i'm taking it all the way to the 20
11:42 pm
yard line. wow! mccoy with a 50-yard run and now a 40-yard gallop. >> cris: almost every time you see a long run like that, you see somebody on the ground. watch winston justice here. he gets him on the ground and opens up the cut dog back and there goes mccoy. what a figure fourth quarter he has had. nick cole with a nice block to push him out of there, but it was really the cut on the backside. you think of so many of the denver broncos great running teams. those offensive linemen cutting the defense line on the backside and it creates big opportunities. >> al: mccoy 11 rushes and 103. he has had a pretty good night.
11:43 pm
a 50 and a 40. he had nine rushes for 13 yards. then a 50 and a 40. >> cris: you know, this game is really such a key game, though, because when you look at the nfc, chicago and green bay both at 7-3. atlanta and new orleans at 7-3 or better. no guarantee a wild card comes out of the nfc east. >> al: and tampa is also 7-3. giants took their last time-out there so they are out of them. only two-minute warning when the clock stops. this will take us to the two-minute warning. of course, what is the best team in the nfc or the league? every week, it changes. a couple of weeks it was the giants, then new england. then the other night it was philadelphia. then it's the jets. who knows. >> cris: there are some people in atlanta laying claims to that, too. nobody is talking about that football team. >> al: right. it changes every week. it's the flavor of the week.
11:44 pm

11:46 pm
the game. and the gang will wrap up what happened today and around the nfl and we will look ahead to the chargers and the colts. the fumble by manning a big play last year, philly won the game 35-28. they challenged. the giants could eventually retake the lead in that game but it was a big, big play. and philly wound up winning 35-28 and philly trying to knock them off the fifth consecutive time, counting postseason. two key plays tonight. >> cris: both of them lost contain, at least one of them by michael boley on the right-hand side here. michael vick, you're going to see, they have it plugged up inside but when boley jumps down, he allows vick to get around. on the wig bun to the outside michael boley lines up inside and antrel rolle decides to dive over the top and impossible to know whether it was bowlley who
11:47 pm
should vfed contain but those two giants have really cost the giants this football game. >> al: giants out of time-outs. philadelphia will let this run all the way down. they will take a time-out here. they are already in field goal range. can't run the clock all the way out unless they get a first down but they can team what would be a clenching field goal. once again, the records of the teams in the division. if philly wins, they go to 7-3 and giants 6-4. skins at 5-5. then dallas. a little resurgence under jason garrett at 3-7. what about philadelphia? they go to chicago next week. the bears are 7-3. and then the snake-bitten texans who had it won at the meadowlands today and lost it against mark sanchez finding edwards and holmes 4-6.
11:48 pm
then at dallas a sunday nighter. >> cris: dallas will play the role of spoiler the rest of the way. they are playing much better and winning a couple of in a row. those games may well decide it. >> al: third and six. first down will end it. mccoy. he won't get it. now do you bring akers in for the kill shot? meanwhile, andy lets this clock run all the way down obviously. akers ready to come back out. after philadelphia takes its final time-out. >> cris: this isn't as easy as you think. remember, the giants have already blocked one tonight. the last thing you want to do in the world is line up and let that one go because if you remember, corey webster kind of 3 had a shot. he had the ball in his hand and was running down the field. i think they will try it but
11:49 pm
it's not a no-brainer by any means. >> al: no. wackier things have happened. blocked field goal came at the end of the first half. >> cris: terrell thomas coming off the corner and got it. it was the last play. here is corey webster. really they had some opportunities here. if they could just let this thing set up and maybe a lateral behind and go block the block in front of him. who knows what would have happened. >> al: akers will line up for a 30-yard attempt. roa puts it down and that kick is just good against flirting with the upright.
11:50 pm
but that will right an end to this one with a 10-point lead and 22 seconds remaining in the game. >> cris: you know what they say in golf? yu write a 3 on the score card and move on. >> al: fairway in regulation. the giants, whap what happens? they go home and they have jacksonville in the meadowlands next week. jaguars winning again today and knocking off cleveland. then washington comes to town. then they go to minnesota. and then philadelphia goes to the meadowlands on december 12th. then the giants, take a look at that at the end. tough. at green bay. then then go to washington to end the season. >> cris: we know what the headlines are going to be tomorrow in you know, are we
11:51 pm
seeing another foil? remember last year the 5-0 start and so great in the beginning? tom coughlin's teams have struggled down the stretch lately. they had a chance in this one, you know? they just gave it away. they just -- silly plays. >> al: after philadelphia almost gave it away. philadelphia letting giants get back in the game on that big quintin mikell penalty and then the fumble by vick that led to two quick giant touchdowns and manning with that fumble after going head-first and losing it and giving the ball back to philadelphia. now the giants will go back home in second place in the division. jason pierre-paul offside penalty also very big. 19 yard line. will blackmon. up to the 38 with 16 seconds remaining. >> cris: but in reality, these two teams meet again and
11:52 pm
effectively the philadelphia eagles held serve at home so, you know, that is way these divisional games go sometimes. but the giants did have a great opportunity to come in and steal one. their defense hung tough for so long until their offense woke up in the second half and then just made too many mistakes down the stretch. >> al: vick 24 for 8 and 258 yards. no touchdowns. no interceptions. so he a has now gone through 11 of the season. he missed three games with a rib injury but no interceptions. manning will run to the sideline. that takes 8 of the 16 seconds off the clock. 191 passes without an interception, longest streak in franchise history.
11:53 pm
jeff garcia owned that streak. >> cris: been since 2006 now that mike vick has thrown an interception. he wasn't what he was in washington last week. but good enough to get the "w" tonight. >> al: second and four. and that is going to be intercepted with one second. stewart bradley comes away with the pick and the football. take that one all the way back with him, as eli throws his third interception of the night. >> cris: well, i give eli some credit for one thing. i know a lot of quarterbacks that would have thrown that ball in about the third row and not risked anything on their stat sheet with an interception.
11:54 pm
so at least he went down firing. >> al: archie and olivia manning have had better days and night in front of that television set in new orleans. >> cris: yeah. they have had plenty of good nights. >> al: oh, yes, they have. but a tough one today with peyton losing in new england and eli and the giants going down. a kneel-down by michael vick will end the game. the philadelphia eagles go to 7-3, in first place in the nfc east as they win it by a score of 27-17. coming up next, the wendy's postgame report. first, these messages from your local nbc station. .
