rebuild new orleans area school. >> a hurricane danielle the not make landfall, but her facts are being felt on the eastern shore. hundreds of swimmers and had to be rescued this weekend. we have more on those dangerous riptides. >> and has been an almost purchased -- perfect beach weekend. one thing you do not see a first site is what is going on out in the water. hurricane danielle is hundreds of miles away right now. it has sent a swell of waves toward the beaches with dangerous rip currents. there were 30 beach rescues here and three were transported with a dislocated shoulders because they were slammed down by the waves. the beach patrol had their third busiest day this summer with 250 rescues. tragedy last night, four in the

water around sundown. only three made it out. two went to the hospital. one down in florida where they said it was the worst they have seen in rip currents that have seen in several years. they will back off tomorrow, but then all eyes will turn to earl that should be your labor day weekend. we did not think it will make land fall, but we will have rip currents wednesday, thursday, and friday. bigger waves this time around because this one will be much closer than danielle. we expect this hurricane to cause at least some beach erosion. for wbal-tv 11 news from the weather channel. >> in other news, baltimore city police officers shot a man several times early this morning after the man pointed an assault rifle at officers. we are live at the police headquarters with what happened.

george? >> the man shot is in critical condition, but police do not expect him to survive. this happened around 2:30 a.m. in a light two officers responded to a reported home invasion. they tend to question -- attempted to question two people. one ran away and another pointed a high-powered that the officers. he was told to put it down and did not obey. one officer shot him several times in the upper body. >> this is a military-style weapons. it is an automatic assault rifle. s and his people the gun, he left us no choice. -- as shun as he shot the gun. >> he is on life-support. the other man who ran from the scene was later arrested. he is a 26-year-old man, stephen grant. the officer is on administrative leave as the homicide unit

83 is the high. right now come 88 in easton, 77 on the boardwalk, 91 in westminster, frederick 93. readings in the mid 80's in western maryland. tropical moisture to the south. and has been unsettled in the gulf coast region for the past few days. this high pressure is holding the rain off. to the northwest, a stalled out frontal system that eventually gets in toward the end of the week. it will be a key player but as far as action in the tropics. here is the overnight forecast. cool overnight and col. 60 to 74 the overnight low. 93-97 for tomorrow. humidity beginning to creep up in the northwest when that 5-10 miles per hour. orange air quality alert is in effect over our area. people have sensitivity there may have some problems.
