>> i think whoever hits the fairway has a big chance to win this playoff hole, roger. >> you can see that lake is definitely in play. a beautiful wind direction to make the hole as easy as it can be. it is blowing this way right here. >> last year j.b. holmes put it in the water leading casey to winning the title. >> this will be a beauty. this will be just fine. >> and that -- that's a really good angle to come into the green from. >> puts the pressure on vaughn taylor. >> look how happy he is. he is happy with that shot. vaughn taylor, who won his first event in a playoff in his rookie year two pga tour wins for vaughn taylor back-to-back years. it's been a while since he has been in this position. >> this is an aggressive play, roger, with a driver.
6:01 pm
he hit a good one on the 72nd hole and is going to give it a try again. want to hit the ball just about right here and let the wind bring it left. >> that starts right and cutting. >> that's what pressure will do for you. he is going to have to be lucky he doesn't get in one of those fipgers with the lip in his way. >> so now, advantage anthony kim. getting pep talk from his good friend and caddie.
6:02 pm
there's the lie for vaughn taylor in this playoff on the first hole at the 18th hole with anthony kim who is in good shape. a lot of emotions and pressure right now on vaughn taylor, born
6:03 pm
in augusta, georgia, trying to get back there to play in the masters. a win will get him there. >> it is hard not to pull for vaughn taylor being right there at augusta. what a great story. where he hit that drive in that bunker you are going to bogey half the time. he is going to have a 50% chance of losing the first playoff hole to kim. >> no stranger to playoffs. he won his first event, a playoff in his rookie year. he lost in a six-hole playoff to matt kuchar. that is where his game started to come back in earnest. after this difficult time fighting his swing, allergies, vertigo. that is a flook high above. >> that is a good lip there. what happens when you try to hit it high out of a bunker, you chunk it short. not that he can't get it up and in like as the masters last year with a wedge shot, tough to hit the green. we have roger maltby and dottie
6:04 pm
down there. i think. they can give their -- dottie is doing vaughn taylor like she did during regulation. we will hear about that lie in a minute. >> first playoff of the year on the pga tour. >> i agree with you on the lie. it is just slightly hook lie which i think brings the high part of the lip more into play making it a touch more difficult. >> the one thing you don't want to do is take yourself out of it, you know, dottie? >> that is exactly right. you have to give yourself a third. >> he could chunk it 80 yards short and up and in. kim thinking he can win with a par might mess up. there are a lot of possibilities. a par here has the great chance to win the first go around on this hole. it is a great playoff hole. >> one thing in his favor, he does launch the ball very high.
6:05 pm
>> that's sort of exciting, if you ask me. i love this scenario here. i would love to see him get into augusta. for him it's got to be a dream. for anthony to get his third win and the confidence he has played for this week, all the clutch putts and up and in. >> he is already in the field at the masters. >> yep. anthony shot 68, 69, 69. vaughn shot 68, 70, 70. good play. 12 under par is a very good score at this tournament. we said 12 under yesterday might win the tournament. that was sort of the number. well, roger and dottie, got some pressure feeling out there? >> rog, i'm pretty comfortable,
6:06 pm
but i don't think these guys are. >> certainly vaughn taylor can't be very comfortable now. i agree with you both. he has to get this ball in play, give himself some opportunity to make four. >> what are the odds of hitting the green from here, one in three? >> i don't know it is that high, johnny. he got it cleanly, but it is headed right. might get the right bunker. >> not real far from anthony kim's shot that he didn't get up and in. so good, clean hit. you have to hand it to him. he didn't hit it in the water left done something dumb. >> i don't disagree. he has 213. why wouldn't you start it at the right side of the green and see it it goes to the center of the
6:07 pm
green. i wouldn't mess around with the left side trying to get near the hole. >> let's see if he can commit to it. >> his caddie said it is what we needed right there. >> at the center of the green. >> beautiful distance control. taylor is going to have to at least get it up and in. >> smile back on the face of anthony kim. is he moving closer to his latest pga tour win?

6:09 pm
and obviously that ought to be most interesting watching. >> i'm excited. going tomorrow to augusta. looking forward to the players championship. >> good luck in the par 3 contest. >> big pressure. >> big pressure for vaughn taylor who wants to be there with you at augusta. that lie looks a little fluffy. >> it's fluffy. actually, i would say it is more thick. an area that has not been raked. it is going to be very difficult to spin this. >> the good news, dottie, you don't have to play conservative, roger. you have to hit a great shot and get a par. you know you are not going to -- kim is not going to three-putt from there. >> he is 0 for 2 in bunker saves since i have watched him today. neither one of them came close. >> i can say if there is anything negative about his tempo, out of the bunker is great for the short, soft bunker
6:10 pm
shot. on this shot you have to swing as hard as your driver. >> like anthony kim speed. >> gary player says like striking a match. you have to be crisp at the bottom to make the flame come on. >> a lot like the bunker shot he had at 17 in regulation. >> he just sort of quit on it. >> it wasn't a crisp strike down at the bottom at all. but he made a great putt for birdie. so he's got that good feeling going for him. he might not have a chance to putt that thing, huh, roger? >> that's true. he is now a little bit inside 30 feet and coming downhill. i don't think there is a lot of break. it is just quick. >> watch this clubhead where it
6:11 pm
hits. it actually hits a perfect spot. the sand, when you are not accelerating with a crisp smack, the sand will slow you down by the time you get to the ball and you will hit a fluffer. >> got to be crisp down there, aggressive. bump it. >> anthony kim wants to finish the job here after letting taylor off the hook on the 72nd hole. this for birdie to put it away. >> this one's all about the speed, john. >> yes, it is. >> just hit a cruiser. >> it is not real different from the putt vaughn taylor made to get in this playoffs, it is? dottie? >> no. it is a touch deeper into the green but certainly similar. >> the good vibes anthony kim had in texas at the tournament he won. he played on a sponsor's
6:12 pm
exemption in the 2006 texas open. finished tied for second in his very first pga tour start. this for the win. >> not a hard put. >> pretty straight. but a good par. >> that puts the pressure on taylor to make his to go to another playoff hole. a 4 for kim at 18. and now for the 34-year-old taylor, who was born and raised in augusta, georgia, remembers going to the masters at an early age. he wasn't there in person at the tournaments, he was watching with his dad on tv. >> does this sprut two halves to it? >> the first half wants to go straight and the second half
6:13 pm
does want to turn left. >> ever so slightly. i think they might cancel each other out and be pretty darn straight with some pace. >> take a look at this from the blimp, folks. what you've got here is a very difficult putt to read. that is why these guys are taking a lot of time. what i believe is going to do, if anything, the first part might barely go right and come back this way. right there. so all in all, like dottie says, maybe not too much to it. >> this to push the action to the par 4 1st and a second playoff hole. taylor stepping away. putting is one of his best statistical categories in the 2006 season when he made the ryder cup. he was second in putting on the tour. this has been a huge strength of his for a long time. >> i'd say the odds of making
6:14 pm
this are no better than 25%. >> from 17 feet. >> hit a good putt, vaughn. not even close. >> anthony kim is the winner again in the 2010 shell houston open champion. >> he looked like a winner all week long. >> got into a lot of trouble, got out of a lot of trouble all week. so our latest look at the fedex cup points list. anthony kim moves all the way up in the second spot behind ernie els. steve stricker in third. and the rest of the top ten. let's go down to roger. >> thank you, dan. congratulations, anthony.
6:15 pm
i think what i marvelled at most in your game the last few days is how you didn't lose confidence when you were having a tough time with the driver, how you kept the faith in yourself and kept hitting driver. how do you do that? >> i don't know. i hit it off the deck a couple of times. i wasn't sure what was going on with my swing. my dad taught me to believe in myself when nobody else does. i did that, today. >> congratulations. >> thanks. >> the next golf on nbc, outback steakhouse proam on nbc. there is a look at our programming coming your way tonight. coming your way tonight on nbc.
