a car hit the teenager in north point. the teenager was hit while crossing the street, and then the vehicle veered out of control injuring three people. authorities say two people were taken to a hospital with severe injuries and a third person was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. >> imagine watching a massive fire ripped through your business and destroyed nearly everything in sight, including more than a dozen classic cars. >> 11 news reporter john sherman brings us the story tonight from carroll county. >> the fire broke out just after 11:20 a.m. in all, 12 cars were destroyed, most of them antiques. >> it just kept on burning. >> what used to be a barn, it

was reduced to a black stain. there were caught totally off- guard. >> people came into the cells of this and said the barn was on fire. -- the sales office and said the barn was on fire. nobody was in it. we can deal with this, just think what we didn't lose any buddy's life. >> firefighters came from two states to knock it down. >> we battled the fire for about two hours before they were able to bring it under control. >> the family owned the barn, too, and was not comfortable going on camera. it is a total loss at $600,000.

>> devastation. the firemen, they have done a heck of a job. >> he says at first, the guys thought about getting the valuable cars out of the barn but they wisely chose to play it safe. >> there is so much stuff in there. you just want to try to help somehow but then you realize the place is on fire and you could be killed. it is just amazing, and i cannot get over it. >> the oldest car that was destroyed dates back to 1908. but they are just glad no one was hurt. >> it appears things are back to normal tonight after an underground electrical fire broke out in downtown baltimore just before 8:03 tonight. city fire crews were called for a report of a manhole explosion.

authorities found one manhole cover blown. the fire went out by itself. no problems were found, in the intersection has been reopened. just after 4:00, fire crews were called to a two story brick home. when they arrived, smoke and flames could be seen coming from the second floor. >> our firefighters entered to suppress the fire. >> most everyone made it out of the home safely. one woman was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. they are trying to determine the cause of the fire. no word on whether the home had working smoke detectors. >> an officer was suspended today. the suspension is pending an investigation for him inadvertently sending an

inappropriate e-mail to the wbal newsroom. >> there was a great day for general motors as the struggling automaker emerged from bankruptcy. official declared it is ready to meet the need for car buyers and start making money, something it has not done since 2004. >> after just 40 days -- >> it is an exciting day for general motors. it marks the beginning of a new company. >> general motors emerges from bankruptcy, a new company with new owners. >> 330 million shareholders are the u.s. citizens. >> it is more than 60% owned by the u.s. government and a much smaller version of its former

self, leaving many contracts behind in bankruptcy, and starting over with plans to shed plants, 20,000 jobs, and almost 2000 dealerships. they are also in the process of selling saturn, saab, and hummer, and stop producing pontiac. >> i am excited about getting back into the car business. >> but these are tough times in the car business. the company has already suffered decades of market share losses, and must now try to win back the american consumer. >> we will work hard to regain the trust in the money that some money have invested in gm. >> a difficult task, even with a fresh start. >> it is less than two weeks into the new fiscal year, and the state of maryland is already facing a $700 million shortfall.

what does that mean to you and what does the governor plan on doing about it? >> in a letter to legislative leaders, the general assembly's chief financial analyst warns of the $700 million budget shortfall. funds carried over from last year that were supposed to help balance the budget had been wiped out and he advises the state is experiencing another $400 million decline. gov. martin o'malley has instructed his cabinet to come up with a list of budget cuts. everything is on the table, including layoffs and furloughs. he is expected to take at least $300 million worth of cuts. the house speaker characterizes the letter as premature. he knows that federal stimulus money is just now flowing into maryland. the state also has $470 million in reserves to fall back on. but a bigger problem has been

cited. the state has an underlying structural deficit to billion dollars. general funds are spent on an average rate of $39 million a day, $275 million a week, and $1.1 billion a month, and warns that the present course is unsustainable. the magnitude of the problem exceeds circumstances in which a special section of the maryland assembly raises taxes back in 2007. experts say the housing market will make recovery difficult. sales outside baltimore city rose 2% last month, the biggest increase since 2007, but prices dropped 10%. maryland cut funding for a school breakfast pilot program, professional development in education, health clinics and reimbursement rates for institutions that provide services for abused children. part of the problem with keeping ahead is that the general assembly adjourns before the tax

filing deadline. the governor does not have to cut all at once. the next scheduled meeting is july 22, august 5, and 26. >> an 18-year-old remains in shock, after a shooting at a basketball court last night. keontae johnson was shot in the torso after a fight broke out between two groups of teenagers are around 7:30 last night in columbia. the school's principal is extremely concerned. >> the committee needs to step up and get involved. we don't want situations like this occurring especially on school grounds. that is where our students play during the school year. >> johnson is in fair condition at shock trauma tonight. police are offering a $1,000

reward for anyone offering information of a suspect. there is more fallout tonight from the grave side resee lling scheme in chicago. the people charged netted nearly $300,000 in the plan. chris clackum has details. >> authorities investigating the burial plot reselling scheme near chicago say they have been flooded with calls from relatives of people buried there. >> we have had over 200 families here since yesterday morning. >> investigators think as many as 300 gravesides were dug up, and then the plots were resold. the manager and three grave diggers have been charged. >> [unintelligible] >> there is more of it tonight over the mishandling of a piece

has sickened at least 72 people across the country. 34 people had to be hospitalized. nestle has found new suppliers for some of its raw ingredients, and has begun producing a cookie dough once again. >> state officials are offering to buy back thousands of crabbing licenses. >> there is an estimated 6000 crabbing licenses in the state of maryland. more than 3000 are commercial licenses. the maryland department of natural resources is asking them to voluntarily sell their licenses. >> it is very important to us to continue to harvest blue crabs at the level recommended by the state. one of the best ways you could do that with certainty is understand how many people are going to be fishing in a given year. >> that means being able to

1913 when it death valley hit 134 degrees, the north american record high was set. all setting record highs on july 10 across the region. this is the hottest, the year, which means when you get an afternoon temperature running below normal, low 80's, it is pretty comfortable around the mid atlantic, especially when the morning low is in the 50's. 59 to start the day at bwi marshall. the first nine days have been unusually cool, running about 4 degrees below the normal. high pressure is pushing down the coast, but clouds are coming in over the top of it, so we will call it a partly cloudy sky tonight. on the lower eastern shore are around salisbury, 64 and over.

50's in those outlying areas by morning. mid to upper 60's in downtown baltimore. the area of high pressure is slowly moving east off of the new england coast, opening the door to the next front. this does not have a lot of stormy weather with it, but the potential is there for storms to reach our region tomorrow evening. not a bad day tomorrow, a little warmer and more humid. storms pushing toward pittsburgh by 8:00 and tracking toward baltimore by 10:00, and then pushed off the coast early morning sunday. the rest of the weekend will not be bad. tomorrow, most of the day is partly cloudy. as we hit the evening hours, a thunderstorm. watch for storms on the chesapeake bay. western maryland tomorrow, thunderstorms in the mountains but sunday looks beautiful.

back on tuesday, dave was ejected for going ballistic. tonight, he was in timeout. he had a bird's-eye view of a tremendous performance by a local guy, but he played for the blue jays. he completely shut down the orioles. six shutout innings. there was a mistake in the fifth inning. a run scores. the blue jays beat the orioles, 2-0. michael phelps has returned to swimming almost as well as he planned. on the good side, he said a new world record in one event. also, he won a couple of other events.
